Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

melee...i didn't know ness, samus(was a girl), ice climbers, and game and watch. Didn't cound marth and roy because well...Who actually knew those two outside of japan lol.

I knew of Ness and Captain Falcon from Nintendo Power hyping up F-Zero X and Earthbound. I'd never heard of Ice Climbers before Smash along with a bunch of the melee trophies like doshin the giant

Before Smash 64 I'd never heard of Samus, Fox, Captain Falcon, or Ness; for Melee, the Fire Emblem boys, Falco, Ice Climbers, or Game & Watch.

By Brawl, though, I was pretty deep in speculation and familiar with Nintendo top to bottom, so I knew every character pretty well. R.O.B. was the closest to an exception but, remember, he was confirmed as an enemy beforehand, so I think everyone following the Dojo would at least recognize him... Mario Kart DS was my introduction, though.

R.O.B, I remember seeing him in Toys R US as a kid behind the glass cases they used to keep their videogame systems in.

I know everyone in Smash 64 and Brawl; but Super Smash Bros Melee, I never saw Marth and Roy before so they are only two characters that I'm not aware of.

I remember when I unlocked marth I legitimately thought he was a girl, but this was most american's experience, what makes it different now is he doesnt look as feminine at all anymore, not since I was able to watch many different anime with much more girlier men that I cant actually see marth as a girly anymore. pretty boy or have some femininity sure, but he hardly looks like the worse example anymore, and that scares me lol

Melee was one of my earlier games played, so everyone apart from the Mario and Mario spin-off characters (save Dr. Mario), the Pokemon characters, and Fox (because my cousins showed me the Andross battle from Star Fox 64) was completely alien to me.

When Brawl came around, the only characters that I knew nothing about at the time of their announcement were Zero Suit Samus, Snake, Ike, and possibly Lucas. I think I was eleven when the first trailer came out.

LOL, Marth should be the lead singer of boy band.

I never thought of marth as a girl. Similarly I remember playing SSB64 many moons ago as a small child and loving samus to death and with my niece and nephew after beating arcade so many times I notice a strip of long blond hair inside her visor....

HOLY FUCK SAMUS IS A GIRL WHAT WAT WUT HOW WHO WHY?

Ahh, goodtimes.

I didn't know who Pit, the Ice Climbers, the Fire Emblem characters, the Earthbound characters, and Game and Watch were.

On a different note, does anyone else remember the Tabuu reveal and how some people thought he might be a Newcomer in Brawl? There was nothing else quite like pre-Brawl hype.

I like how nintendo was able to keep up the "samus is a girl?!" gimmick for atleast ten more years after the fact, until it reached the point where everyone knew and then she was unveiled without her suit in brawl lol

Smash 64:
- I called Link "Zelda" despite it saying Link on the character select screen and knowing where he comes from.
- Didn't know Captain Falcon and Ness and never played the games they came from.
Sometimes, a trophy is just a trophy.
"Little Mac having a Captain Rainbow trophy is hinting at a playable Captain Rainbow" is among the biggest reaches I've ever heard. We really need a character reveal this week. You guys are slipping into madness.
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that lol.
I don't think anyone would seriously considered him being playable character in this thread, I think.
You should have looked a few pages back before this post. :p

It seemed some were being serious.
Newcomers are one of the biggest incentives for buying a new Smash Bros., so locking every single one of them away doesn't make any sense. I think I used newcomers in my first handful of Melee and Brawl matches.
Which is kinda why I'm thinking they won't have unlockable characters, and if they do, it will be veteran characters.

Those CG trailers are fit for character reveals outside of the game.

See, I knew Marth was a dude - both because I was pretty familiar with anime at that point and because I read his trophy ASAP and it mentions he's a prince.

I remember thinking that the "kingdoms" from Fire Emblem were more cosmic, since you fight Roy on the Fountain of Dreams, they were of a similar aesthetic. Like floating islands. The truth is sort of boring in comparison, honestly, ha.

It doesnt help that marth wears a tiara, however when I found out the story of why he wears a tiara I found it sad and really endearing.

I didn't know who the big ape or the red mustache man was when I played Smash on N64. It was also the third day out of my hole.

Good friend of mine was obsessed with Metroid in the 80s so I got to see him get the ending on Metroid on the NES where Samus is without her suit. We were like whoa she's a girl?!

Haha, I probably forget to check those pages.

So you think we wouldn't have unlockable characters in SSB4 as well?

Sakurai only played Captain Rainbow because his bro Takamaru is in it.

Don't rush the hype. I think we have about 150 pages to go. (20,000 posts) I don't think we will reach at 20,000 until like two weeks or three weeks.

I think it just depends on what happens between now and then, we might get another super "leak" we may even get a surprise newcomer announcement who knows. But whenever something big happens smashgaf blows UP

When I first played Melee, I thought Samus was a robot because of her sound effects in the game. As a result of that sin I have to suffer through endless waves of terrible Metroid is a robot jokes.

After watching the Revival of Melee stream, I have a question. Have any prominent smashers commented at all on SSB4? Have any said they will or won't give it a try?

Mew2King claims to being streaming it when it comes out and say he should have it weeks before it releases to the public. He had a thread over at Smashboards. He also said he was probably going to make a gamecube controller for it.

Is he excited for it?

Guys/gals, if there is a ND in April, it's not going to be the kind you all think, and will probably focus on Mario Kart 8. Not going to see another newcomer until E3.
