How divisive can a Noah story be though? Only the real nutjob Christians take the Noah story literally.

Thanks. I was worried a day might pass without being called a nutjob on neogaf. Got that one taken care of early.

I think people are smart enough not to expect a 100% faithful adaptation of a bible story from a Hollywood (mainstream) director. Anyone who has seen Aronofsky's work should have the appropriate expectations. Loved (and confused by) the fountain, personally. And I'd be very interested to see Nephilim come to life on screen. I'm writing a Nephilim type creature into one of my screenplays as well.

So... excite.

Still need to see The Fountain. About Noah though, I'm glad to hear the fantastical elements have been retained in the final cut.

Arronofsky is mainstream, that's a new one.

I didn't like his The Fountain. And I didn't like Gibson's Passion of the Christ either. Regardless of that I do tend to like Aranofsky's films - wrestler, black swan and my favourite: requiem for a dream. So I'll watch this.

I would not call Aronofsky mainstream nor Hollywood. That's why this is interesting.

Watching The Fountain in the theater was one of the most interesting experiences I have had with a movie. After about 45 min a couple would walk out every 5 min, me and my girlfriend at the time made a bet to see how many would be left at the end. It was about 10% of the crowd, but fuck them it was an awesome movie.

So it has a heavy dose of fantasy according to the tweets. I might see it if they go deep in with crazy monsters, angels, flaming swords etc.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
So is this more like the Ten Commandments and Passion of the Christmas in terms of it being a Hollywood movie for people of the faith, or is it like taking a biblical story and then putting a new spin on it?

"Noah draws comparisons to The Fountain."

That is horrible news. The Fountain is Aronofsky's worst movie by far.

Sounds great. Fountain already felt like almost religious experience for me. And christian mythos still carries insane ammount of emotional strenght to me. I expect wonders.

Pretty pleased with these tweets. As if I wasn't already excited enough.

My dad wants to see this, but I think he's going to be surprised by the fantasy elements. lol

Clint Mansell's scores are always great, I think. So something like this topping, THE GODDAMN FOUNTAIN is music to my ears.
See what I did there?

I've followed the man since Requiem. I would agree with your assessment - if he hadn't made Black Swan which made hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide and got Oscar attention. Now he's big-time.

I think the only fantasy element I've seen in promos is the fire magic wall or whatever that is shown in commercials. If they showed more of that and less Russell Crowe posturing, I'd be more interested in seeing it.

Four armed-angels? Why haven't I heard of this? Seems like a full-on epic fantasy re-telling, provided we end up seeing more weird shit too.

To be honest, there is a ton of scenes/creatures in the bible that are imagined differently today due to culture evolving and adapting (for instance I'm pretty sure Satan ruling hell is a relatively modern belief). Four-armed angels aren't that weird when we've got Seraphs with six burning wings right there in Book of Isaiah.

Do you take the Noah story literally? Real question. Because the NOah story always seems like the "fun" child's story in the Bible, but rarely do people seem to defend it tooth and nail. I didn't mean to offend.

I believe those who saw it took issue during the third act...and spoilers here on..where
Noah apparently goes batshit crazy wanting and trying to murder the young (Watson's characters' baby?) on the Ark

Muslims version of the Noah story is regional flooding, but it's the depiction of Noah at all that has caused the film to be banned in a few Arab countries.

What is the Jewish view on the Noah story. Is it taken as literally by them as some Christians do? It is kind of their story first. Has there been any move by Paramount to market the film to the Hebrew congregations like they seem to be doing with the Fundie churches?

The Fountain was fucking great, loved that movie. In fact I pretty much love all of his movies. I'm really looking forward to this.

Didn't know he directed The Fountain.

First thing that popped up in my head was JonTron's foodfight review.
Or this Fountain Rules? Meaning there are no rules .

Are you serious or are you joking? At least here in the US, most christians believe in the Noah story literally.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2004/feb/16/20040216-113955-2061r/?page=all

An ABC News poll released Sunday found that 61 percent of Americans believe the account of creation in the Bible’s book of Genesis is “literally true” rather than a story meant as a “lesson.”

Sixty percent believe in the story of Noah’s ark and a global flood, while 64 percent agree that Moses parted the Red Sea to save fleeing Jews from their Egyptian captors.

I enjoyed The Fountain but to me it felt like a compromised vision. I'm hoping Noah will be a more "complete" film.

I think that's because it was. Wasn't the film originally set to be shot years earlier with a much bigger budget and a different cast (Brad Pitt?)?
