Even though it'll never happen, I'd enjoy seeing Master Chief in SSB4 for several reasons:

1) MS doesn't have enough representatives to make a fighter crossover. Shooters, of course, would still be fair game.
2) Chief's used such a ridiculously high amount of tech in his career, even in-game, that he could very easily pull a Snake and not use any conventional, bullet-firing weapons. At the same time, he's still got a ton that aren't entirely explosive - Plasma Rifles (which I could see working as a a damage increaser with little knockback), the Needler, frickin laser beams, etc.
3) In addition to straight-up handheld weapons, he's also got access to several useful pieces of equipment that could work their way into a nonstandard moveset (jetpack for recovery, etc.)
4) Uniquely, despite weighing about a metric ton, he's had fairly high movement speed and extremely high jumps since the original title. Having a floaty bipedal firearm user would provide a pretty nice contrast to Snake's playstyle.
5) The one bullet-based weapon I could see making it in is the Assault Rifle, which has such future-ish sci-fi projectiles (bullets, but they've all got obnoxious yellow tracers on them) that it could earn a pass. I could even see it working as his pummel rather than being used as a distance weapon.
6) Potential for huge-range attacks (final smashes) are pretty much limitless.

I could almost see a scenario working where Chief mostly uses fisticuffs for tilts, an Energy Sword for smashes, a Jetpack for recovery and then has a couple of the more iconic weapons at his disposable that can be switched through with Down B. Neutral B could be to fire said weapon which would all have unique properties (I'm talking 4, maybe 5 weapons maximum here), and then his Side Specials could be for a juke, for example using his little Thruster Pack thing.

If you really want to go off the rails, he could have a Little Mac-styled overlay just above his % meter that has a minimal Halo HUD-looking count of ammunition he's got for the weapon on hand. So, like, you'd have limited use of your ranged / projectile weapons, and they'd all reload on a new stock.

You know what, I don't hate this idea....

And to play devil's advocate - he is as much a gaming icon as Snake and the most recognizable character from Nintendo's other direct competitor microsoft so makes as much sense as Snake

Edit, also to make the same argument that was made for Snake, maybe it would draw more dudebros attention and sell some wii u's as secondary consoles so they can have MC beat down all the nintendo characters

Im actually ok with this, not that he is going to get in but if some planet alignment thing happened and he did, he could have alot of potential and a good contrast to samus.

The pause menu watch music just reminded me how good james bond's OST is and how its a shame it wont be in a smash game(without jumping through legal hoops which sakurai probably isnt up for)
right, now show me where I can play Halo on a Nintendo system

before commenting you should actually read prodigy, no one is saying it would actually happen

Playing Project M right now and I'm having a "new character crisis". The characters I've been playing are either all figured out by my main competition (my bro) due to how long I've been playing them (Marth, Fox) when I was still a full time Smash head, require a lot more adjusting to be consistent threats (Pit) or are somehow near perfect but lack a critical "something" to make me enjoy them enough (Metaknight).

Also, is it really that bad to initially have a strong opinion against something in a game, use it yourself, see the value and comment on it as such? My brother gets the most violent fits of mad with me when after dealing with things like P:M Mario/Dr. Mario or Metaknight (based on his Brawl reputation) I sound off on them, but then when I try it and form a better understanding of what makes them so good, he just wants nothing to do with me. :lol

Yup, apparently I believe Microsoft wasn't adverse to using their IPs on handheld Nintendo systems (such as Viva Pinata on the DS) since they didn't have a handheld of their own.

I wonder if this has changed though in recent years, since handhelds can now arguably compete with consoles basically.

I don't think that Tech Demo was ever authorized by the higher-ups. If I remember right, it was just something some Bungie employees were toying around with.

Age of Empires
Age of Mythology
Viva Pinata
Diddy Kong Racing

First two co-published by Microsoft (or they had some involvement), second two developed by Rare.

Confusing junk. Can we get Banjo/Conker on 3DS please?

Just realized we haven't seen a pic of the Windy Hill Zone stage in almost four months. Crazy.

Kind of hoping it's been overhauled a bit since it didn't look particularly interesting... and was probably a scrolling stage too. Bleh.

Almost certainly just a coincidence though.

LOL. Well thanks for the vote of confidence. :P

I feel like I'm just in that awkward phase where you get consistently bodied because the other guy just wants to "play" and does whatever and you're doubling down on that "educated play" only to play match ups horribly wrong or run into shit because "look at this godlike movement".

Edit: I really didn't get the idea that Windy Hill was a scrolling level. I'd be so deflated if true. That game had really awesome visuals and knowing how frequently we pick scrolling levels here, I know it'd never get a second look.

Really? It's one of my favorite looking stages. Only behind Mario Galaxy perhaps.

We play smash brawl at work almost every day.. i main Olimar and Zelda but have been getting bored.. I suck with everyone else, haha. I tried peach and can't smash anyone out and Captain Falcon has such long charge ups.. I played Dedede and sucked so bad, but god dammit I would be lieing if I said he wasn't fun to play as.

Based on what we've seen of it, there's nothing I'm particularly excited about. I don't much care for the look of it (a complaint I shared with its source) and would have rather just had GHZ again. None of the platforms or gimmicks that we've seen seem interesting and I just have a dislike for side-scrolling stages (admittedly I may just be biased and basing it on how bad the ones in Brawl were). I don't really care for the spherical design on it or on the Mario Galaxy stage, but I'm doing my best to reserve judgement on that until I've tried it out since it's probably a non-issue.

It's not terrible or anything, but I don't particularly care about it as we've seen it. To each his own.

(Though judging from some of the comments on the pictures we've seen it might not actually be scrolling, which would alleviate most of my concerns with it)

Don't worry, I'm pure doodoo at the game myself.

If I am interpreting this right, you are referring to the exact sequence I went through with my brother; focusing on more complex elements of the character and mechanics themselves rather than just playing to be victorious in the end. A remedy could be to play more simplistic but optimized?

Speaking of Sonic Boom, Wario should be a little taller in Smash 4.
