If you could revive/reboot/reimagine/remake one game or franchise, which would it be?

You can pick one of each.

For the sake of this post:
  • Revive = make a new entry in the series. Stays in original canon.
  • Reboot = start a new canon from the beginning, similar to the original premise. Same genre and the like.
  • Reimagine = reboot, except changing a core element of the series such as genre
  • Remake = just what it says on the tin. Same game except in higher fidelity
I would revive Xenosaga (Turn Based JRPG). The first three games were great and I would love to see where it went next.

I would reboot Onimusha (Action). I loved those games and I don't know why the series died. It's too late for an Onimusha 4, so let's start over.

I would reimagine Bravely Default (Turn Based JRPG). The game is dope as fuck now, but the idea of bravely seconding in a tactical RPG is killer.

I would remake Spectrobes (Monster Battle Action RPG). That series was a mix of Kingdom Hearts and Pokemon and it really had potential. Plus it would be cool to experience the story of the first two games with the third game's play mechanics.

Also, please list the genre of games.

EDIT: If you're going to reimagine a game franchise, for the love of games, tell us what it would become. Else I'm just going to post "As what?" over and over.

Revive = Bushido Blade, it's the best fighting game ever, still.
Reboot = Metal Gear Solid, do TPP and end the whole Big Boss/Snake saga.
Reimagine = Left4Dead, make it open world, with more survival focus.
Remake = Zelda OoT.

I would Reboot Colony Wars (space sim) and call it a day. The orchestral soundtrack, space battles, and robust ship customization with today's tech would be the bee's knees son!

I'd Revive F-ZERO (Racing), Reboot Metroid (2D Action Adventure), Reimagine the cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 (3D Action Adventure) and Remake Excitebike 64 (Racing).

I'd like to see a Halo reboot. Halo 4's COD inspired gameplay is garbage and so is the newly expanded Forerunner mythos. If that's where the series is going to continue heading, I'd rather they just hit delete and start all over.

I'd like to see the covenant stick around, but either add some interesting new units to their ranks or make them the secondary threat. I think it would be cool if the Flood were the main threat, but I wouldn't want them to act like zombies in combat. Make them more measured and methodical.

I'd be down with some sort of new threat, too. Just keep the Forerunners mysterious and... dead. They were way more interesting that way.

Anyways, I could talk about this all day, but I'll leave yall with that. Wait, also important: take multiplayer back to it's balanced, competitive roots.

Revive - Ron Gilbert-era Monkey Island. He'll never get the IP from Disney, but I would fucking kill to play whatever would have been his original vision for the final game in the Monkey Island 1-2 trilogy.

Reboot - Chrono. Obviously people are still hoping for Chrono Break someday, but as Cross may as well have been simply another title in the franchise with similar themes but separate canon-wise (of all Cross's problems, the one that is probably the most damning is that they halfheartedly tried to make it a sequel to Trigger), I'd be happy if they went the Final Fantasy route and made a new entry that has no narrative ties to the existing ones.

Reimagine - Sonic the Hedgehog. It seems like Sonic Boom might be doing this? I've always wanted a new Sonic game that took the Adventure idea and made it into something more akin to a western action/adventure title like Uncharted (which means I was immediately excited when I saw Boom was being headed by some ex-ND folks).

Remake - Descent. Not sure which title exactly, I'm the most attached to 1 and 2 but I'd also want the exteriors of 3.
Edit: Actually, as I'd want a "best of both worlds" kind of thing, I guess Descent might be more of a Reimagine than a Remake. For a straight remake... I guess I would go with Final Fantasy VI.

Revive the Chrono series... Although I'm still scared of what Square may do with it...

Also, revive Mega Man and reboot Resident Evil.

Remake Final Fantasy VII.

Reimagine The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Crash Bandicoot 4. The Crash from the PS1 days, not the abomination that Activision turned him into. That's not Crash.

I don't know where this comes under just make it happen!

Remake = Zelda OoT.

I've got fantastic news for you, my friend:

Reimagine: Halo as an FPS RPG (for single player anyways). A hub and exploring Halo or another world in progressive freedom along with a skill tree could have been an awesome time. It ramps up exploration, discovery, and environment size for combat encounters. I always thought the fiction was good enough to support more than a linear mission structure / narrative.

Edit: Randomly quoted somebody.

Revive Okami
Reboot MegaMan (at least give an ending for each series. Only ZX or Z and one other ever got an ending)
Reimagine Metroid Other M into the 3rd person 3d Metroid we wanted
Remake Xenoblade Chronicles or the Galaxy games or Twilight Princess

Revive = Banjo-Threeie (I'm aware the rights are looong gone), or a Zelda game focusing on the Ancient Tribes (origins of Majora and
Fierce Deity
). I'd reaaaaaaaally like Zelda U to be this, but I'm not expecting it at all.

Reboot = A Zelda game not necessarily just focusing on (incarnations of) Link, Zelda and Ganon, or even the Triforce. Just for the sake of freshness. But I'm not sure if that counts as a reboot, still having a hard time what that exactly means.

Reimagine = Maybe switch Zelda's genre, through a spin-off game or canon, to an Action RPG with a lot more focus on exploration. Add some interesting and fresh skill trees or something, with a vast level up system.

Remake = Zelda OOT HD, 1080p 30fps. I can't say this enough.

Yeah, plenty of Zelda because I'm just afraid I'm going to get a little tired of the series in a year or 5 if they don't start refreshing things a looot. Hope Zelda U does the trick.

Reboot Dead Space. The first game was great, the second was almost as good, and the third ruined everything. Especially the lore, though. A new entry needs to detach itself for the awful mess of plot.

Revive = Banjo Kazooie
Reboot = Legend of Dragoon
Reimagine = Valkyria Chronicles into a series like the tales series, changing the characters and story but keeping the core gameplay. Ex. Make it set in more medieval times with a new ancient civ. Keep the battle system but add more classes. tell the story through a book just like the old one. Make it a tiny bit faster.
Remake = Majora's Mask!

Reimagine: Castlevania.
I have it in my mind as a time travel medieval/modern times adventure, with minimal combat (ie no cannon fodder, all encounters to be unique etc), a focus on exploration and puzzle solving and the visual sensibilities of a Tim Burton movie

Revive = Bushido Blade, it's the best fighting game ever, still.
Reboot = Metal Gear Solid, do TPP and end the whole Big Boss/Snake saga.
Reimagine = Left4Dead, make it open world, with more survival focus.
Remake = Zelda OoT.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that would love to see that game come back.

I'm not sure what my answers would be. I've imagined what I would do if I were to make a Fallout like game but it doesn't really fit in any of those definitions (I think closest would be re imagine but it would still be an open world RPG, just with my own improvements).

Revive = Kid Icarus. In a simmilar vein to Uprising but with a different approach to ground levels with a camera closer to God of War's.

Reboot = Tony Hawk. Focus again on the level design as an instrument for combo creating, forget gimmicks and disrespectul sillyness.

Reimagine = Tales of VS. Take advantage of the series' rock solid combat staples, focus on 1vs1 matches, lineal combat with 3D movement options, less characters but more uniqueness to them, make it look like a CC2 game.

Remake = Majora's Mask.

Revive: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Reboot: Dead Space (still survival horror, but new protag, maybe alternate timeline/dimension?)
Reimagine: Knights of the Old Republic (still rpg, but change turn-based combat to a real time alternative)
Remake: Shinobi PS2

all new entries available on current gen consoles

Revive = F-Zero.
Reboot = Final Fantasy XIII (new characters, setting and the like).
Reimagine = Star Fox, from on-rails-shooter to space sim, like Freespace 2 or Freelancer.
Remake = Baldur's Gate 2 (A good remake, not like the one that some company did not long ago).

Revive/Remake Jet Set Radio Future. Such a unique set of games that could be incredible on a next gen console/PC. They've remade Jet Set Radio, why not Future and a next gen sequel?

I would revive The Legend of Dragoon
I would reboot The Legend of Dragoon
I would remake The Legend of Dragoon

also, Front Mission.

Revive = Shining Force franchise.
Reboot = Metroid 2D, toss the FPS part and any gimmick element.
Reimagine = Ogre Battle with less linearity, faster gameplay, a country to develop and having to deal with other countries the way you see fit.
Remake = Zelda II.
SpecialMakeItHappenSooner = Not Shenmue 3 neither Half-Life 3, just give me that freaking WarCraft IV already.

  • Revive: F-Zero (Racing) ;_;
  • Reboot: 2D Sonic (Platformer): Make an actually good 2D Sonic game again. The Sonic 4 we deserved and not the one we got. Or Silent Hill (Survival Horror) as the survival horror franchise it once was.
  • Remake: SMT I & II (RPG) as a single game. Or the Persona 2 duology (RPG) as a single game.

I can't think of anything to reimagine.

Revive : Ace Combat/Burnout/Zone of the Enders
Reboot : SSX (and not the 2012 way)
Remake : Pokemon G2, no tile movement but pixel free moves, 3D, denses forest, Monster Hunter like, etc...

Bonus : localise : Yakuza series.

Remake:
PanzerDragoonSagaBox.jpg

One of the greatest RPG's I've ever played, and one of the only ones I've replayed over and over. The mix of ATB and positioning made it such a joy to play.

Revive = Warship Gunner
Reboot = Halo. That franchise went down the drain the moment Bungie thought space fungus zombies made better antagonists than the Covenant.
Reimagine = Ghost Recon to a modern/future combat turn based strategy/SRPG like XCOM: Enemy Within
Remake = There's plenty of games worthy of remakes, but Mass Effect 1 needs one badly. It's a total technical clusterfuck that has aged badly.

Revive = Guitar Hero. One guitar for all systems, game is free if you buy the guitar, only focus on songs with guitar rhythms. Make it so you can port in your own songs from your iPod/phone/whatever and it creates a somewhat rough version. Song packs are released yearly for $10.

Reboot = Red Steel. So much promise that wasn't fulfilled right. Would like to reboot it and make it amazing.

Reimagine = Kirby. Any regular non-unique Kirby game. I'd make it harder to beat and a lot longer with a storyline that was so much better than the ones targeting 5 year olds. You can make a story targeting a lot more than the kid demo while still targeting them.

Remake = Metroid Prime Trilogy HD. 60 FPS, 1080p, choice of controls. Include all 3 titles, plus a remake of Hunters and Pinball.

Revive: Suikoden. Pick up on the original storyline. Even if it ends up being a little different than what the original creators had in mind, I still want a game set in Harmonia or the Western Continent.

Reimagine: Panzer Dragoon. I love the original series, but I can't see an on-rails shooter being all that viable today. I'd love to see an open world RPG game set in that universe, with more emphasis on verticality than stuff like Skyrim or Dark Souls.

Remake: I'd love to have E.V.O. remade as a downloadable title on Steam/PSN/eShop/etc

Reboot: Resident Evil. Ditch the convoluted story, and go back to a more straight-forward setting like Racoon city. Focus more on survival and less on over-the-top silliness.

I think all three apply to the same answer for me. It would need to be rebooted, reimagined, and also revived and remade.

Given the choice...

I would say FF7, but it would only qualify under revive, because anything else leads to the possibility of destroying the game. iOS title, I do not want.

Revive = Battle For Middle Earth(Real Time Strategy, Fantasy)

Reboot = Disciples Series. III just warped the Canon, probably would merge elements of I and II story wise.(Turn Based Strategy, Fantasy)

Reimagine = The Conduit(FPS). Would probably shift less towards its FPS elements and turn it into more a stealth game with emphasis on indirect encounters and rewards for creative accomplishments to level objectives.

Remake = Lord of the Rings: The Third Age(Turn Based RPG)
