If you could revive/reboot/reimagine/remake one game or franchise, which would it be?

A great SNES RPG, with Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. Most people still want a sequel to it or something close to it. I'm not saying Paper Mario is bad but it is nowhere close to Super Mario RPG.

No, you said "reimagine", so you have to tell me what you reimagine it as.

Reboot: Kingdom Hearts, got too complicated for its own

I'll fight you.

Reimagine - Bushido Blade

As what?

Interesting idea. I'm going to go with my gut responses.

Revive: Star Fox
tumblr_lsrbdjkl0f1qzkooa2h.jpg

I think this counts since we're going on 9 years since Star Fox Command. Keep it focused on on-rails shooting with spectacular graphics and colorful characters with catchy dialogue. Like Star Fox 64, multi-terrain vehicles are good too, as an ancillary focus. Take some of the elements from Star Fox 2 and Assault -- a transforming Arwing, the ability to land and jump out into another vehicle -- but make them tighter, with robust online and local multiplayer modes. Incorporate the Wii U GamePad as a place for a touchscreen cockpit console (not the core controls, but Arwing transformation, weapon selection, radar, mic, speaker, maybe some sort of energy routing system to change shield direction/weapon configuration and offset damage, etc.), second screen for co-op/multi or first-person view gyro controls.

I'll stop now. Fanboy dreams run deep.

Reboot: Mega Man
super-smash-bros-for-xfbz4.jpg

The original little guy. No X, no Legends. Just a neatly designed shooter. I imagine a tightly focused character action game, mostly linear with a little room for exploration. Essentially, Jet Force Gemini meets Resident Evil 4, but a hell of a lot faster with a little less exploration. Take the aesthetic of the Smash Bros. 4 Mega Man design and run with it, or cel-shade it. The story: Dr. Light's benevolent boy robot, Rock, fights some evil-assed robots made by the evil-assed Dr. Wily. He steals their weapons along the way. The end.

Reimagine: Mach Rider
mach-rider-with-withoo1baq.jpg

Just because I'm infatuated with this character's design and the post apocalypse (plus it would diversify Nintendo's first-party offerings). I'd like to see this re-imagined with a surreal, off-kilter A Boy and His Dog aesthetic, or perhaps a Fist of the North Star, late-80s anime influence. Gameplay wise, Fallout style exploration and scavenging, with the focus on building and customizing Mad Max-like vehicles down to the tiniest stats, which you not only use in missions, but bring into versus play. Players could also used scavenged materials to design and share battle arenas, in a throwback to the original game's Design Mode.

Remake: Gladius
gladius_profilelargepozfa.jpg

I just want to see Gladius with current-generation graphics during battle. The addition of more characters, gear and arenas -- as well as fleshing out the game between battles -- would be icing on the cake.

Jumping Flash, just imagining a modern take on a lot of those games core mechanics makes me super happy.

Also those games were really weird and funny.

Revive: Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Set Radio, Garou: MOTW, Last Blade, Art of Fighting, Onimusha, Mega Man, Darkstalkers, Project Justice, Zone of the Enders, DMC (not DmC), Vanquish (thanks Nintendo for Bayonetta not having to be on this list) Shinobi (on consoles), Panzer Dragoon, Chronicles of Riddick

Reboot: Samurai Spritis Sen, Dino Crisis, Aliens:CM

Remake: Shenmue 1 & 2, Skies of Arcadia, Final Fantasy 7

Wolfteam

It's a nice, novel, fast paced and twichy shooter with good melee that never really took off because it started off buggy, wasn't marketed well and got bombarded with hacks

a few years after beta, the american version was sold to aeria and promptly turned it into a pay2win game

I still play it from time to time but the lag from only having a small NA wide pool of players combined with pay2win balance get annoying.

honestly I've had more fun in this game than pretty much every other FPS combined - the year or two between alpha and selling out to aeria was bloody glorious

I would love to see a Shatterhand 3D action game.

shatterhand_cinematicabj5x.png
shatterscreenkxjeo.png

Gritty cyberpunk, stop bullets by punching them with your metal arms, your jacket is your power, various robot helper options you build by combining pick-ups, etc., the potential is endless! But really, I think you could make a real promising game by reimagining its themes.

EDIT: Btw, if you've never played Shatterhand, fix that.

Remake

Burnout 2 : Point of Impact

burnout2.jpg

I would make it a PS4/One title, and just update the graphics/physics.
Would be the best arcade racer ever, again.

And no, Burnout 3 and the rest are not as good.

I'd reimagine Halo Reach.

Reach was a wonderful game, but not how I would have done it.

It could have been more desperate, more human.

The game didn't quite capture the sense of this is a dying planet, a world of 700 million literally being burned from orbit by xenophobic aliens.
The importance of Reach and just how devastating a loss it was just wasn't expressed as well as I would have liked.

Revive - Myst series - my favorite series of all time and there's still plenty of good stories to be told in it. Altough it would need to be done by Cyan. The entries by other devs just weren't the same

Reboot: Wing Commander - erase all those nasty bug aliens and go back to first war between Humans and Kilrathi.

Reimagine: Batman: Arkham (or more broadly Batman) - as adventure game. True one, none of the action-adventure nonsense. Just classic detective game with point-n-click interface, deep Gotham lore and some inventive puzzles. Blade Runner would be excellent template to take inspiration from.

Remake: Darklands - I love this game, but it awfully hard for younger gamers to get into.

I am all for reboots, nothing else they work better then revives, and if they suck you can reboot again with not too much lost. My series would be:

Starfox, Keep the same basic premise for single player. Make the missions so you can jump in the vehicles at any time, with a good mix of flying, and tank, if you do on foot it needs to be proper 3rd person action game. Have a multiplayer mode like Warhawk or Starhawk.

Resident Evil Make a story line that people can actually follow, nice and simple mansion style game, keep third person over the shoulder re 4 style, but end tank controls with more survival emphasis and less shooty.

Turok Fun guns, and big Dinos, also he is a Native American, not a space marine. This might be more on the remake side, of Turok 2

Revive: KOTOR

Reboot:
Assassin's Creed Japan without the Animus and modern day bits. And no MP.

Re imagine: Mass Effect as an MMO
sscq.jpg

Revive: Commander Keen (platformer) would love to see what they could do in this generation (but still keep it simple 2D platforming fun)

Reboot: Silent Hill/Resident Evil/Alone in the Dark (survival horror, used to be) stop fucking around with those and go back to good old classic scary gameplay! (and yeah, fixed camera would be great too, too bad they canceled the AitD remake)

Reimagine: Wonderboy (aRPG) I want it to make the switch to 3D like Zelda Oot did it. keep the animorphing from dragon's trap while still be platformer heavy like the others. keep the colorful graphics and don't go gritty soldiermarinemuscleknightactionhero like so many want to do.

Remake: Dreamweb (adventure) would LOVE to see that with spiced up graphics (maybe not top down, how about iso-view) - wouldn't mind seeing it in the reimagine-section either, making it into a TP-action adventure game (but almost no focus on the shootbang).

  • Revive = Unirally/racer. While I doubt there is much demand for a unicycle racer in this day and age and of course the purpose behind it is a non issue (prove the SNES can have a fast game like the Mega Drive) the fact is it was killed by a Pixar law suit means it will never see the light of day again even as a VC title. So this title literally needs reviving.
  • Reboot = I'm not really fixated with many games continuous storylines for this to be much of an issue for me. Heard MGS is currently a muddle so perhaps this could benefit from one.
  • Reimagine = Well it could be interesting to see a Zelda game reimagined in the style of Zelda II since the concept in this day and age wouldn't be hindered by system power.
  • Remake = The first Star Fox could be interesting to see with a graphical face lift. Mario 64 DS would be another since it would allow for analogue controls and the extra content.

Reboot Extreme G Racing for PS4, X1 and PC. it's a great series that has a simple fast paced racing combat system that's very pick up and play. the Extreme G Racing series could use a new entry in HD with next generation physics, A.I., and graphics. seeing this sci-fi racing world re-imagined for a new generation of consoles would be great.

Yes Ill take it, extreme G 3 was quite good.

Revive: Psi Ops, one of the most memorable games I ever played on the PS2
Reboot: Resistance such wasted potential.
Reimagine: God of War, defeat more gods.
LLShC.gif

Remake: Last of us with current gen magic.

Revive = Earthbound

Reboot = Uncharted or The Last of Us, I hope the next game in each franchise features different characters in the same universe.

Reimagine = Starfox, to a story driven TPS like Mass Effect except with both ground and spaceship battles.

Remake = The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Seiken Densetsu reboot. Waist-high covers, killstreaks, regenerating health. Also clans to own dem mana beasts

Revive -Jumping Flash. It was a perfect series with great games and I'd love to bring it back.

Reboot - Rollercoaster Tyoon, but as a proper game not a terrible mobile game.

Reimagine - Iceclimbers. I think like Kid Icarus they could make an amazing game out of the iceclimbers but they've never tried after the terrible first one.

Revive/Reboot/Remake - Tenchu or Way of the Samurai.

Reimagine - Kane & Lynch. Take those characters and make the gameplay more like a cross between Payday 2 and Hitman: Blood Money. You have to puzzle out different robberies with multiple solutions instead of hits.

Revive: Dino Crisis
-Series has been sitting dormant for too long. With dinosaurs slowly coming back in popularity the time is right to come back.

Reboot: Onimusha
Onimusha needs a reboot since the trilogy was concluded and Dawn of Dreams was just sort of there. Could easily be rebooted while keeping parts of what made the original games special

Reimagine: Kingdom Hearts
Want a reimagine of KH since oddly enough, I like the game more when it's about the characters sans the Disney stuff. Sure I don't mind the disney stuff but I would be very curious to see how it would be without it.

Remake: Jurassic Park Trespasser.
Game needs a remake bad. Game was flawed at release but had a ton of unique ideas that had they been fully realized, could have made it one of the most memorable FPSs of all time.

I would love to remake this

Keep the non-serious tone. Include online and local multiplayer and open world elements. More levels too.
