Makes sense. As a near blank slate character, you can characterize her as anything you want. Is she a hero? A coward? A seductress? An asshole? Yes.
FFXIII only solidified it by letting you customize her outfits as well.

Aaaaah I see. Didn't realise the awards were for most animu character of 2013. Hatsune Miku shoulda won hands down. She is a robot singing lady. Can't get more animu than that.

Terra, really? Agreed about Zidane though. Cool dude. But yeah to me Lightning was sort of like a mix of Cloud and Terra. Pretty stoic female with little to say about things. I'm not saying she was a great character but she wasn't by any stretch some kind of hindrance to the FFXIII series.
That's totally fair, but people loved the hell out of Cloud.

Compilation Cloud isn't the same as real, FF7 Cloud. Lightning would never tell anyone to mosey.
But I thought everyone disliked Drag-On Dragoon in Japan! Didn't it completely fail to sell?

I think FF15 is gonna be just like MGS2. No one will know Lighting is actually the main character until it's released.
The only reason people even discuss Lightning is because Square-Enix tried to shove the character down our throats so they could cash in on making 'sequels' cause it's easier to make than a original game. They also started sexualizing her more to get more sales from the otaku crowd who only care about sexual appeal than gameplay, despite their being plenty of porn and hentai out there on the internet for free.
Now her "trilogy" has ended and she'll fade into obscurity like Bubsy.

She's going to be in Kingdom Hearts 3. They'll probably also do a FINAL FANTASY GO THERE P.2 with Lightning in the world of FFXV.

I think for the most part, Lightning's 'character' was just a misunderstood bitch who eventually softened up. Her design is probably the best part about it imo, with the back stories of some of the other protagonists in FFXIII/XIII-2 being way more interesting than her own.

I might reorder it somewhat, but I'm OK with everything on that list though I don't know a couple characters yet. I'd even put Lightning on it... like at 8 or something. I haven't played LR or XIII-2 though so my opinion is probably a bit off.
I like Lightning, she is an interesting character with an intriguing psychological background and solid reasons for being the way she is..
You gotta consider that LR: FFXIII is a new entry, whilst FFX/X-2 is an enhanced remake. Considering Japan is one of the few countries where HD remasters in general don't really do all that well, for it to outsell a new game is just..............
Even if you compare the original PS2 release of FFX-2, it outsold both FFXIII-2 and LR combined by quite a margin.
I like that her character is essentially what her power says: "One Man Army". She is fucking powerful and it's actually fun playing as her. And she looks pretty cool while fighting doesn't hurt either.
