#DarkSoulsDowngrade and #YOULIED \\ a.k.a You got some splainin' to do, Namco

god every image posted just makes it more and more impossible not to be angry over this. Look at that shit! There's a fucking alligator demon in awesome fire pit in one shot! The other shot the alligator demon is in derp! The other shot is like a parody shot from some laughable trashware developer!

hi welcome to From Software, you must be new. their environment textures have always been pretty bad.

You know if anyone went from Dark Souls console to Durante version you can appreciate how enormous the difference could be based on higher resolution textures alone.
The Durante fix didn't increase texture resolution, "just" screen resolution. The textures are exactly the same on consoles and PC.

Maybe that's going to be different with DS2. We'll see in a few weeks. There are a ton of issues that a PC version won't fix, however. Like the repeating textures and generally poorly designed areas.

Well I meant just the higher resolution. I've never been a big graphics guy but dark Souls on PC was beautiful to me compared to the console version.

At least textures are something the modding community can fix to a reasonable degree. Lighting, on the other hand, is something that FromSoft needs to get right.

Here is a video of me going through the forest area with and without a torch with my PS3 set to full, and the tv brightness/capture device set to lower levels and the blacks no longer faded. I can also say, playing in this mode, dark areas are FREAKING DARK without a torch.!

So PC brethren if the PC version does not have improved lighting or textures and is simply higher resolution running at 60 fps how would you feel?

Me personally I would be pretty let down it doesn't look as good as those earlier build but I'll be fine because watching youtube and twitch playthroughs the game looks good enough as is that my enjoyment won't be hampered by what could have been. I just want to play it.

PS3 version. Did my best to get the same angle but I think the FOV isn't the same on consoles as it can be on PC perhaps. Can't do it.

This is a direct cap of the same spot with the PS3 range on full. Weird it's a little brighter lol.

I'd wait for a $5-10 steam sale.

EDIT: Switched to vilmer_'s BMP above.

There are three possibilities, here:

1. That 'PC' shot is from an old build which doesn't exist anymore.

2. Someone at Namco/From had fun with Photoshop and it looks completely different in game.

3. That actually is the PC version to be released. The lighting looks SIGNIFICANTLY different from the console version (semi-confirming the lighting is in the PC version?), and also there is MUCH more foliage on the walls, as well as AO and better textures.

Take your pick. Can't wait for From's/Namco's response next week.

I might get it, when it hits $10 or less.

Eeeh it's ok.

On 1 hand I would be super annoyed, but I also get a hopefully smooth 60 fps experience with higher textures and all that jazz, plus I got it for £23. See, when Watch_dogs had a major downgrade it was annoying and false marketing but it didn't effect the actual mechanics. When they showed the initial vid for DS2, they put such an emphasis on this new lighting, effecting how the game is played and it takes away from the atmosphere which is so important to all soul game's,

I'll be very disappointed, but I'll play it at release. I'll be furious if there will be a PS4-port with the old lightning while the PC-version is "downgraded".

I'm playing on PS3 atm and it's simply not playable, not in the slightest.

Really? How so? Been playing it for 20+ hours and there hasn't been anything that has made it unplayable for me.

This is what I find interesting. Which build would it be? Clearly not reveal since that area had a different theme, being a mountain castle instead.

Did the beta have that area playable?

Set my ps3 to full range. Makes such a difference. The torch actually has a purpose now (other than to change to the look of an area)

Game looks better now. I had to raise the in game brightness after I made the change. Now the slider is closer to, if not, the default level when you first start the game.

The problem with this is you are artificially crushing your blacks and whites while destroying your midrange. It's like the whole Xbox scaler BS. Crushed blacks and over saturated colours = must be better.

To quote Durante:

You aren't fixing the color space, you're breaking it. We have direct feed footage from the game and it has color values in the 0-15 and 235-255 ranges, so the game is not using limited range RGB. Ergo, you're losing information by forcing it to be interpreted in a different color space.

The difference between the various versions is clearly one of different (ambient) illumination levels, not of different color settings (or even different gamma).

Don't care about those things. I don't need to see every little detail that could be seen. Game LOOKS better TO ME

If it becomes a problem I'll make adjustments.

It's fine if it looks better to you. It's just some people have making it seem like this is the end-all to all problems, when it actually creates new ones.

Ok so Durante says the game isn't using the limited range, well neither am I ;)

Lmao at the people messing with their display settings to make up for downgraded graphics. Well we know they fucked up and are most likely in oh shit mode at the moment. The question is, can i level my toon, or is it going to require a fresh save to play on what im predicting to be a finished version of the game..

If the PC version looks similar enough to the footage it is being advertised with I see no problem. It's common practice to advertise multiplatform games using the best-looking version, and generally people don't complain much about that.

But that is *not* what many people who are angry in this thread, including Amirox, is angry about. It is the principle of the matter that they lied about what they showed and what we get.

Very different than what you are propose.

I am just saying, if you want to be angry about some game company doing something that betrays your principle as gamer, be consistent with it.

I hope when we get some answers, we also get more details on the PC version, one thing in particular I want to know about is if they will have increased shadow resolution options, because some areas look BAD.

Also, if there will be an option to enable the player to collide with the ragdoll bodies. I really want to kick around some of these enemies.

Disappointed, still day one.

Very dissapointed. I don't think this should be an issue for PC, but if so they should include options.

If it's not what they promised, which is an ungimped PC version, I just won't get it.

Inconsistency is the essence of Dark Souls 2. It feels like the whole original team disappeared after they did Anor Londo last game.

Not to mention that in the first shot you can clearly see at least 3 of those demons while in the retail shot we're left with 1. I didn't notice it until seeing those shots side by side but while I was playing the game I always found it strange that there was only one of those things down there. That coupled with the crappy textures and bad lighting made the whole area of that pit seem rather boring.

Pretty sure there are actually 3 of those down there. The other two are just not visible from that side

Bamco's CM said this:
"The screenshots up there now were captured from the PC build < a month ago AFAIK"

People actually trying to make the downgrade seem like a glitch or some incorrect setting?
KuGsj.gif

Because it's From. for some people From is a heavenly saint that do no mistakes and they just refuse to believe the fact. if this was Ubi, EA or Activision you will not see the same amount of defenders and most people will not go to the max trying to spin saying it's not a downgrade but a wrong gamma/color setting.

Lmao at the people messing with their display settings to make up for downgraded graphics.

Lmao at the people poo-pooing a great fix. Check out the video posted in this very thread. Sure it won't replace altered geometry or magically improve the resolution or change the effects of global lighting, but it makes the game look just like the Souls games have always looked instead of this washed out mess. It's an order of magnitude better.

The framerate is catastrophic.

Played Demon's Souls? Dark Souls 1?

The framerate in this game is hardly "catastrophic".
