Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

So I don't follow this thread regularly, don't know if this has been discussed yet, but seeing as Snake's chances of returning are probably small, I was thinking Isa Joe (S&P 2) or Saki (S&P) would make for good replacements
Their games sold like poop.

Don't blame me, I bought three copies of S&P2.

I think he's talking about final smash on daily images, which he's correct but all three were shown on trailers. At least, we finally got smash ball as update itself, so it's out of our way now. Please show us more assist trophies please, so we can figure who will be in the game or not.

Uh, you guys count PM trainer as one character or three?

Three characters for me, but when we are talking about character slots then it would be one.

What do you guys think?

There are also plenty of areas from the games that lend themselves well to stages.

If you mean using them to take on Snake's moveset, I don't think they're exactly analogous.

The first game apparently sold well enough on Virtual Console to warrant Star Successor's development.

Why are you guys thinking what he said correlates to the number of characters in the roster? Literally all he was commenting on was that if he explains every character's FS it'd take over a month individually. Do you really think the roster will only be around 30 with cuts left and center?.

Awesome pic, love Final Smashes (well, mostly) and the Smash Ball's new look.

Love how some people are bitching about what is a completely optional item. You guys will find any reason to complain about anything. "If I don't like something, even if it's optional, it's bad and should be removed from Smash!"

Geez, talk about preemptive bitching about something nobody has ever said.

You people also are forgetting that he only updates 5 days a week which means if he showed off every final smash for all currently confirmed characters it would take over a month to do so, I doubt that comment has anything to do with the final roster

I love Final Smashes. They may need to change up Dedede's though so I don't choke my brother to death.

"Second worst thing to happen to the game" lol this thread is always so damn funny.

Same thing, Final Smash are pretty awesome for fun matches.
Sakurai once said that Smash Bros. is like a party game I think.

WE'RE GONNA HAVE FUN WITH THIS THING

like the smash balls updated look

Given your avatar, I think that's a given. :p

Transformation-based FS that merely changed the properties of your moves were quite fun in Brawl (Wario Man FTW), so I'm glad to see more, and Mac's instantly reminded me of AoT as well.

I liked final smashes in Brawl, but felt like they were badly balanced. Some were underwhelming and could barely get a single KO per use, while others let you KO many people several times over.

I hope they keep Luigi and Wario's FSes, and that they change Lucario's to use its mega form rather than the DBZ laser. Oh, and get Falco an Arwing (if he's still in, that is).

i enjoyed final smashes but I hope they're less ridiculously unbalanced to each other.. comparing ones that are almost instant one hit kills possibly to everyone to ones that MAY kill a character sometimes...

Pic of the day. That item that brings victory one step closer...the Smash Ball! Of course everyone wants it! Come to think of it, I haven't introduced any of the Final Smashes yet... Then again, if I introduced every single one, it'd take over a month's worth of posts.

Over a month? Do it Sakurai.

Ridley's final smash: Turn into a Smash Ball and let the other characters use it to kill each other.

GENIUS!
You have the option to turn off the Smash Ball, yet somehow they're still complaints lol. Nice update, love the cohesive look of the Smash items.

:-P
Because I want Final Smashes but I don't want them to be too common or else they get boring. It's like if Gold Hammers were absurdly common or legendaries were absurdly common; it might be fun for a match type, but it's not much fun for general mixed item battles because they become the only things that matter. So I turn them off when I just want a fun random item brawl.

Speaking of legendaries, Pokeballs and Assist Trophies still need option selections. At the very least it would be nice if we could turn shit like Munchlax off so Pokeball battles aren't so boring. It could also lead to some fun match ideas like only KO'ing people with Bonsly.

Final Smashes were kind of lame in Brawl. I like the concept, but they were poorly balanced, some of them lasted way too long and they appeared too often. I hope they're better this time around. My friends and I ended up turning them off along with Assist trophies whenever we played item battles.

If Nintendog was playable what breed would he be?? I'm guessing Golden Retriever but he/she could have different breeds as palette swaps, which would be neat.

Assist Trophies were kinda the opposite of Pokeballs. Instead of being too underpowered overall, a lot of them were really damn strong, and the strong ones appeared more because they weren't restricted to "legendaries".
Wait, why is everyone talking about the "new look" on the Smash Ball? We've seen the "original" on Villager's artwork already, it's just shifting colors.
Stealth Ridley discussion.

They're inherently unbalanced because of the smash ball itself. It spawns in a random location, and characters with strong aerial mobility (such as Wario) gain a significant advantage.

I say they should be balls-to-the-wall overpowered as possible. I had issue with the fact that certain characters had final smashes that were fucking terrible (Ness, Lucas and Mario to name a few) which made them a poor choice in matches where final smashes were available.

You know who's final smash sucks on large stages?
Jigglypuff

This was one of my issues too. I think the Zero Beam is up there with the Mario Tornado as one of the worst; it forces you to transform (meaning you have to get used to playing two characters instead of one), it's got incredibly slow start-up, and it's very easy to avoid with some characters' air mobility. You'd think controlling the laser would help, but it's just way too slow moving.

And yeah, PK Starstorm is fucking terrible.

Donkey Kong's is pretty horrible.

Most of the best final smashes are transformation ones (Super Yoshi, Landmaster, Super Sonic, Giga Bowser, Wario Man, Volt Tackle) because they last forever, you can score multiple KOs with them including multiple KOs on the same person, and you can control your character in response to an opponents' dodge.

Note that I'm not including Jigglypuff or Ganondorf as transformation ones, since you can't control those ones at all after initiating them.

depends whether sakurai will keep unlockable characters a secret or he was just saying it would take a long time to show them all

Alright, so now the excitement/bitching has started to subside and we are getting into some actual discussion, who are all the final smashes you would change and what would you change them to? I'm going to try and make a list myself and post it a little later. Also, I know it's been mentioned already but would you like it if every character had two types of FS - a controllable and a non-controllable?

The render doesn't have a huge glow around it and the stuff spinning around it is more clear.

Though calling it a new look is odd I guess.

That's just the aura around it getting the same treatment as every other effect we've seen so far, the artwork had additional frills that weren't visible in-game for Brawl either.

I dunno, just seems silly to consider this "new" at all when it's basically the same as Brawl.

Someone pointed this out to me last night, and we both laughed at the aesthetic detail, and I don't remember anyone spotting this here when the item was first revealed:

If you specifically look at the trigger on the Steel Diver torpedo gun....

It has the trigger of a water pistol!

I was never a big fan of Mario's, so maybe change it to him using a special type of mushroom. like the rock one from galaxy, then he could roll around, or the ice one and freeze people

Replace Kirby's FS to Dragoon. Which is impossible. :(

At least make cook Kirby undodgeable.

King DeDeDe → Masked DeDeDe
Falco → Arwing
Pit → Three Sacred Treasures
Ness → PSi Rockin'

Toon Link should either get the Windwaker and play the Ballad of The Gales (fully controllable cyclone/tornado pillar) or the Four Sword (Geneijin with three other Links following whatever he does/Ice Climbers on cocaine).

Give Falco an arwing or his grenade launcher from the Assault artwork.

Give Pit the Three Sacred Treasures armor because fuck yea high mobility and shootan things.
Also because Palutena needs a Final Smash. :D

Give DK temporary access to his Jungle Beat skills. Grab opponent with stretchy arms, bash face in repeatedly.

Ganondorf's was alright already, but making him turn into a trident wielding "Ganon" form would be a cool nod.

Lucario should obviously change to Mega Lucario. Not sure if they should make it a transformation attack or just have him change while doing the attack like Ganondorf.

I feel Samus and Zero Suit Samus should have two each; one that transforms and one that doesn't, so you aren't forced to switch. Power Bomb for Power Suit Samus, and maybe calling in the ship for a strafing run for Zero Suit Samus. Or maybe they can just have it so you can choose to transform with the current final smashes (Maybe it adds extra power to them if you do choose to trasnform).
