Shin Megami Tensei 1 coming to iOS in English ($7.99, March 18th)

I mean if others wanna contribute the text and proper info and stuff I'm happy to post with proper crediting, I just know OTs on this site are very srs bzns and my thread would just be like ADVENTURES IN POST APOCALYPTIC MURDERING WITH YOUR TRUSTY DOG and random Sega CD era concept art and soundtrack samples instead of actually useful feature lists.

I think we could keep it simple. Title banner, synopsis, the main characters(Hero, Law, Chaos, Female Hero, PASCAL, etc.)

Maybe a bit on gameplay? This could be daunting to newcomers.
 
A couple of beginner's tips would be good. Like, the hero does not learn spells so don't give him any points in magic, but do not neglect intelligence because it affects negotiation. And that charm is super good, so try to get demons with sexy dance and use charm bullets.
 
Yo dudes I just realized that we need one of those OFFICIAL THREADS for this, I know maybe only ten people will care but I'm still convinced that there's a new audience of 90's PC RPG fans and OCD-ish completionists to merit one for a bit more exposure.

Anyone wanna start one? I'm too disorganized to do it myself but I could help with rehosted images or youtube links or whatever.

I might be able to work up some banners and stuff.

I've never played through SMT1 so any tips like this would help a LOT. I remember reading charm was really good in the first game, but I never knew that Intelligence would be worth investing points into.

Can't wait for the game and OT either way, I've been wanting to play this for years.

I would add another tip to those already said, is to be conservative with your Magnatite, it will cost MAG to summon demons and the more powerful the demon is the more it will cost to summon. So save your powerful demons for major bosses.

Another is that depending on your actions in the game you will also affect your alignment and ending. Of either Law, Neutral, and Chaos.

Also I would point out that there is a demonic compendium in the game, since that was never one in the SNES version of the game.
It allows you to summon demons you previously had for a price.

I vaguely remember Nich saying in an old Retronauts episode that Atlus USA really wanted to make localizations of the SMT games on Wii's VC happen, but they just couldn't get the numbers working.

Oh my God, I would have loved that! That companies even considered and worked for this sort of thing (on a more recent episode of Retronauts, I found out that Natsume was trying really hard to get Harvest Moon 64 on Wii VC too, but I think there was some sort of emulation QC issue that ultimately prevented its appearance) makes me really happy.

NichM, I really appreciate what you guys are doing, and I've got my fingers crossed that the translated iOS version does well enough to bring the English version to Android as well. Just any officially translated version of SMT1 on a platform I own would be amazing to me.

This OT making ish takes longer than I thought! Still sorta bootleg but nearly everything's assembled thanks to helpful people so it should be ready with only minor adjustments needed either later tonight or tomorrow.
 
Can't wait to play this, I've been on a SMT mood lately, played and beat IV and playing Digital Devil saga now. What time does the App Store update?
 
The first SMT game, going back now, is really hard to play.

I guess it depends on the person but I just replayed it last year and had a blast. The remakes fix a lot of convenience issues, particularly with maps and stores and such, and that's really all that needed any attention compared to the original release.
 
So I just got this. First thing I noticed is that the dungeon crawling looks more pixelized than the SNES version. I'm assuming this is a port of the GBA game?

Regardless, very cool that it has been localized.
 
I'm in, Gen 4 itouch. One nitpick/observation so far:

That line isn't in this version. It just appears.

Most things are better conveyed, though, like the MC picking up coffee beans.

And boy are the background pretty. Controls will take getting used to, though.
