Some of the people doing co-op are obscenely helpful. Saw a summon sign upon entering the fog area and some dude just led me around to all the treasure carrying a torch. That's some high quality service.

figured out something cool about the slug boss in earthen.
the cages above him can be shot , they drop snacks for him which distract him. :D

Yeah, I learned about this when I was co-oping him for easy souls and another phantom started doing this.
He takes significantly reduced damage while he's chowing down though, so it's pretty marginally useful even if it's immensely amusing.

Translated FAQ From The Dark Souls Japan Site. Clears some stuff up.

Q. My gender got changed somehow.
A. There is a coffin in Things Betwixt you can enter to change your gender as many times as you would like.

Q. I can't see co-op summon signs.
A. You cannot be the co-op host while hollowed. You can use a Human Effigy to restore your humanity, allowing you to find summon signs. This applies to NPC summons as well.

Q. I was invaded by another player while hollowed.
A. We've changed the way invading works in this game so that players may be invaded even while hollow. However, there is a cooldown time after being invaded so that consecutive invasions do not occur.

Q. I cannot restore my health past a certain point on the HP meter.
A.
In this game each time you die your maximum HP will be reduced, up to 50% total. Also there is another condition under which it will be reduced (Cursed). Restoring your humanity will return the maximum HP to normal.

Q. I can't jump while dashing.
A
. If you press L3 (clicking the left stick) you can jump while dashing. You can change this to using the ○ button (B on 360) like it was in the previous game through the options menu.

Q. I'm not being matched with players from other regions. Why?
A.
You can allow for connecting with players from other regions through the options menu. Otherwise you will only be matched with players from your region.

Q. Please list the conditions for being matched up for online co-op.
A.
The conditions for being matched up are determined not only by parameters that are visible but also various parameters on the game servers themselves. In order to provide suitable match-ups between players we will make necessary adjustments to the servers if needed, and thus will refrain from providing specific details.

Q. There are times are I can and cannot use items like Estus flasks to restore my HP during co-op. Why is this?
A
. During invasions, items cannot be used by non-host players to restore health. Healing spells can still be used. This limitation does not exist for the host.

Q. I can't go into dual wielding mode even though I have a weapon in each hand. Why?
A.
With the introduction of dual wielding in this game, players can enter dual wield mode if they are above certain levels in both Strength and Dexterity levels as well as using certain weapon combinations. If these conditions are not met, you will simply hold the weapon in your left hand with both hands.

Q. I can't free aim with crossbows. Why?
A.
You can't free aim crossbows with one hand. Press △ (Y on 360) to wield with both hands and then L1/R1 (LB/RB on 360) to enter free aim mode.

Q. When I attack with greatswords/other big weapons I can't hit the locked-on target. Why?
A
. In this game, when using a large/heavy weapon you can freely change the direction of the attack even if you are locked-on. If you let the left stick remain in its neutral position, the attack will target the locked-on target.

Q. Magic drains my stamina. What gives?
A.
Spells use a portion of your stamina in this game.

Q. When I defeat the same enemy over and over they stop respawning. Why?
A.
In this game, there is a limit to the number of times an enemy will respawn. When the number of times an enemy has been killed reaches this limit, it will stop respawning. You can burn a "Bonfire Ascetic" in a bonfire to reset this limit and respawn the enemy. This area will be counted as if you are on the next playthrough and therefore the enemies will be stronger.

Q. When I'm travelling between bonfires there is a number next to the location's thumbnail image. What is this?
A.
It refers to the number of playthroughs of that area. Burning a specific item in a bonfire will allow you to replay through the corresponding area. However once a bonfire has been strengthened, you cannot return to a previous iteration. Also, if you clear that area for a second time, on your second playthrough, that area will be treated as if it were the third playthrough.

Q. I can't descend ladders quickly. Why?
A.
Press the left stick down while holding the X button (B on 360) to quickly descend ladders. Also you can release the left stick to stop descending midway.

Q. I was invaded even though I defeated the area's boss. Why?
A.
You can be invaded even though the area's boss has been defeated. Having battles through summoning is also possible. However summon signs from other players (such as a White Soapstone sign) will not be visible.

Q. I can see summoning signs even though I have defeated the area's boss. Why?
A.
Even if the boss of an area has been defeated, summoning signs created by the "Small White Soapstone" will still be visible. You can summon these players as Shades for co-op.

Q. When I equip the "Name-Engraved Ring", I cannot take it off after I am matched up with someone. Why?
A.
When you use the Name-Engraved Ring to filter your matchmaking you cannot take off the ring until after the multi-player session ends.

Q. I can't get the Red-Eye Orb.
A.
There are no longer items that are not consumed after invading (Red-Eye Orb, Blue-Eye Orb). Please use the consumable versions (Cracked versions).

Q. When I burn a Human Effigy in a bonfire summon signs for co-op no longer appear. Why?
A.
When you burn a Human Effigy, you cannot be invaded in that area, nor can you summon another player. You cannot burn a Human Effigy in areas where multi-player events occur (Bellkeeper/Rat areas).

Q. I can no longer be matched up with other players after a network disconnect.
A.
If you repeatedly disconnect from a multi-player session for whatever reason, you will be penalized and will be unable to engage in any multi-player except for invasions.

Q. What's the difference between the White Soapstone and Small White Soapstone.
A.
The length of time for which you will be summoned differs. Also the reward for a successful co-op session is different.

Q. I was summoned through a summon sign but I was returned to my world before defeating the boss. Why?
A.
There is now a time limit for which players can be summoned. In addition to the normal depletion of this time, defeating an enemy will reduce the amount of time left. When the time limit has been reached you will return to your own world.

Q. I can't restore my health during invasions/co-op.
A.
Only the host can restore health with items during a multi-player session. However, when there is no invader, all players can use healing items.

Q. I can't find the Orange Soapstone.
A.
The message functionality has been added through the start menu. Writing a message, checking its rating and other information can be done in the menu. You can also now use conjectures to connect two sentences. When a message is rated, the owner of the message will have his/her health restored by a fixed amount.

Q. I can't find the "Indictment" item to indict invaders.
A.
There are no longer any Indictment items. When an invader defeats the host, he/she will automatically be indicted. Therefore an invader will automatically receive sin for killing a host.

Q. I can't level up at bonfires.
A.
Leveling up no longer occurs at bonfires but rather through talking to the Emerald Herald in Majula.

Q. I can't match up with friends.
A.
The series' theme is to have loosely connected once in a lifetime meetings. Thus, even if your levels and area match up, your friends may not necessarily be able to join you. However if you use the Name-Engraved Ring, you can filter the matchmaking results, allowing for you to be more easily matched up with them (this does not guarantee that the match-up will be successful).

This game seems to be turning out exactly like Dark Souls. The latter bosses of the game are actually push overs, because

My last 2 boss defeats

Covetous Demon? (Jabba the hut lol) - Ridiculously easy. What the hell?

Mytha Baneful Queen - again what the hell.

Does this trend continue?

Currently using the Dragleic Sword, but I have just got the Uchigatana,
by giving the ember from Icon Keep to the blacksmith.
Now wondering if I should switch from my Dragleic to the Uchi.

Thoughts?

I always try to be that guy. Some people will completely overlook the messages that point to most secrets and traps. I do the "I won't bite" and "pointing" gestures if I notice the host is missing important items or chests.

So they can adjust the requirements for multiplayer server-side, then. That's rather good to know. Hopefully they'll be proactive on that front.

A. If you repeatedly disconnect from a multi-player session for whatever reason, you will be penalized and will be unable to engage in any multi-player except for invasions.

This is cute. So if you disconnect to avoid invasions eventually you get locked out of all multiplayer except invasions.

Please spoiler the bosses and non-early locations, for the love of Pete. Say "I can't beat the
unicorn
boss" instead of "I can't beat the unicorn boss"

This thread and the last are full of spoiler landmines....

Has anyone been able to defeat
Darklurker
yet?

Last thing I have to do before NG+, and I'm getting murdered
as soon as he splits in two. Basically if either hit me with anything, I'm done for. I'm also starting to run out of Human Effigies to keep retrying. Straight melee build is suddenly feeling like a bad idea.

Yeah i beat him melee with my greatsword :D the best advice i can give you is that the battle is primarily about dodging even more so than dump and dumper in DS1!! on ng+ he is basically the hardest boss in the whole souls series for me lol
he is weak to fire
i mean look at this shit lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9fdRpSvGIk

I just helped a fella beat an early boss and he had this dope helmet with a tall feather on it. Where can I get this magnificent peacock cap?

Strange question. I'm about to start ng+. My pursuer great sword is maxed to +5 with dragon bone. I'm at the infuser and every stone I can add makes the weapon do less damage except raw stone. Will this negate my dragon bones? The damage is jumping from 390 to 448 but does it get rid of the +5 ??

Speaking of boss weapons, why are like 90% of them great swords, ultra great swords, or hammers?

It's kind of annoying for a dex build when I can't use any of these weapons because they're all strength based.

Not sure, but to note on your decision: 390 to 448 may seem like a lot, but you should check to see the damage bonus you get from scaling and see if it's a bigger boost than the raw boost. You're on NG+ so you should be a level where it takes a big effect of your damage (depending on the weapon).

Are you early in the game?
Spend 1k souls with the merchant who is in the house in town. Then go to a bonfire and back to him.

It goes back to level 0. Presumably, if you then upgraded it up to +5 or more, it'd be higher. Don't know that weapon specifically.

Raw removes or severely hampers stat scaling though. By NG+, you probably want to have damage coming from stat scaling more than weapon base.

Have you gone to
the crow lady

Thank you kind sir. Seeing as my weapon can't get upgraded anymore I need to find a S type weapon and just keep boosting my strength then right?

OMG at
executioner chariot.

Any advice?

Also really only took one boss down today, but I got both the bonfire ascetic and soul vessel, so still fairly productive.

For the fight you are mentioning - a non spoiler hint would be pay very, very close attention to your environment.

Finally got the ability to imbue my weapons. I switch between Drangleic Sword +1 and a Bastard Sword +7 at the moment.

Wonder what I should imbue on each. Would having one Lightning and one Magic pretty much cover my bases for bosses?

Also, what happens after imbuing? Can I still upgrade the physical damage as usual?

edit: nevermind, I don't have the magic stone--just the enchanted one.

Well I know you can hide, but those goddamn skeletons get me all the time. :(

Do you have anything against co-op? Otherwise all I can say is
when the chariot mows down the skeletons, book it and try to leave them behind. Max up power to kill those necromancers then hide behind a shield until the chariot kills the rest.

Welp, managed to pvp myself to 4 million Soul Memory and I now have nobody to pvp with.

RIP this character.
What a stupid mechanic. They should have capped it so that after 1mil (or whatever translates into SL100), it doesn't matter.

Oh you can block
the chariot
?

I tend to co-op after I really feel like I can't handle it, but I tend to prefer to solo it most of the time.

Wait...wtf?
You are telling me that Ultra GS has assisted aiming if you don't use your left stick?
Couldn't be right? Maybe I will try it out tomorrow.

I've had the incredibly strange luck of perfectly syncing my gestures with other players. Simultaneous bows and warcrys are the shit.

Are you in NG+? From what I've read it seems the Soul Memory thing is mostly used in NG but not really relevant in NG+?

I'm still NG, been banking the souls and keeping my level low for balance's sake.

Knew this would happen eventually, now I gotta go to the wasteland.

I'm stuck in lower Brightstone Cove, with the blacksmith. Any tips?

I meant
shield up while in the gaps to protect yourself from the skeletons. You might be able to just block the chariot, I never checked because I've always just dodge rolled through it. That said, you want to put as much distance between the skeletons and you, so running forward when they're knocked over will give you the time to deal with necromancers.

Shrine
of
Amana
Question: There's supposed to be a
sleeping maiden that drops her staff when you kill her, right? I tried killing her, but she fell to her death before I got the last hit off. Am I screwed out of the item for the rest of this run, or will she respawn if I rest at a bonfire? Quitting and reloading didn't do anything as it might've in Dark Souls 1.

Well, dodge rolling suits me better. That's good to know.

How do you get to the second bonfire in the Gutter, in the area with all the ladders leading down after the fog gate?

There is an opening on the far side of the room.

My question is what key and where is said key to open up the door next to the
last giant boss
?

Looked everywhere in the forest and all that and cannot find no key or
mine shaft
