Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

I enjoyed Heide's Tower of Flame and now just helping people kills the bosses but that place is so damn short it was quite disappointing.

I hope theres another area like this later on but similar in size to the area in Anor Londo

The further I get, the more I'm starting to hate the new features of Dark Souls 2 vs DeS and DaS. The limited respawns is really dampening my fun. I went heavy str and got a +7 mace, and have come to realize how much the mace moveset sucks in this compared to DeS where it was my favorite...so I'd like to switch to swords, except there is no way to farm up replacement titanite, since spawns poof.

Similarly, I was an idiot and smashed the only chest with a token of spite in it after listening to a bad message. After repeatedly getting wrecked by people stunlocking me with fast swords in pvp, since poise apparently does nothing this time around, I need to farm more cracked red eye shards...except the mobs that drop them no longer spawn.

Couple that with the terrible boss fights (
[belfry gargs, ruin sentinels, rats, etc
), I'm almost ready to just shelve the game completely. Demon's Souls was my favorite game on the PS3, and this just feels so lacking, and frustratingly difficult in all the wrong ways.

I did beat
Dragonrider
but when I go down the elevator the door at the end is shut and I cannot proceed to the warf. Do I need to defeat the other boss in the Tower of Flame

You don't need to beat the other boss. I think one of the knights along the way opens up the path or something. So just go kill them and see if you get another lever you can pull down.

You can buy more small shards from the blacksmith in Majula. Large shards you can buy from the other blacksmith later.

Also Gargoyle fight was hard but awesome.

Quit taking naps in suspicious coffins.

Yeah, there's a
coffin in the Things Betwyxed area that if you jump in it changes your sex.
I said WTF as well when it happened.

did you happen to wander upon a coffin laying on a beach somewhere :P

Ahaha. Awesome. I was wondering what that thing did. I did notice how my character looked much more effeminate yesterday, but when I saw my boobs today, playing around with various equipment loads, I was a bit perplexed.

In the Forest of Fallen Giants, how do I get down to that salamander with all the fire around him? Do I just jump with a cat ring or is there something I'm missing? Looks like I'll die if I do that.

I'm offline, so I don't think I will be defending against invaders? Any other tips for farming chunks?

I think you can get the uchi and the BSK pretty quickly after each other, right? What is the consensus about which one being the better weapon?

Offline... Hmm I don't know about chunks. I got one from a chest or somewhere but haven't found anymore.

As for the two katana, Uchi has lower stat reqs, A scaling and one hand R2 stab. Uchi is also easier to get; McDuff sells one (and only one!) after you give him the Dull Ember. The BSK has higher stat reqs and is heavier (8 units). It has a cool draw and slash move, very quick but short range. (Basically the Iaito from Dark Souls). BSK also has an S scaling, but at 30 DEX, my Uchi +7 does more damage than BSK +6 (something like a 20 point difference). I imagine at 40 DEX, a +10 BSK would be more powerful.

You need the cat ring, but even then if you don't have enough HP to make the jump, you could die. If you use an Effigy and still die then just come back later when you have more HP.

So I finally got the
King's Ring
.

I opened the
King's Doo
r in Giants.
There's just one of those weird trees. Interacting with it does nothing. I did notice that it was vomiting golden sparkles everywhere, though.
Do I need some kinda of key item to do anything here?

i'd agree with you but...
who's fucking bright idea was it to not show the bonuses on stats from scaling until you equip the item?
makes managing your equipment SO much more tedious because you have to constantly equip shit to see what the actual stats are

There's one issue I have with the UI, the co op player's health bar, whenever they go off screen it defaults to the left side of the screen making it damn hard to find your partner, it's especially bad if your co op partners like to wander away on their own instead of sticking with you.

with the cat ring on, you can drop down where there's a bunch of rubble piled up. It's on the other side of the room, opposite of the lizard. Should have roughly half health when you drop, depending on your Vigor.

quick question: am I destroying the items in the wooden chest if I keep hitting it with the weapon or is there just a lot of rubbish in this game?

I see items and stuff but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get over there.

You can hop down there with the cat ring (
there's a bit of raised ground that makes it a safer drop
) or you can
keep playing until you get a key that opens the door next to the Giant's boss room. That leads to a salamander room.

Conversely, the door right before the
Last Giant
boss fight will also take you down there, but I forget which key you need and where to get it.

Two things I'm finding odd atm:

1 - Target range seems to be borked in some way. Sometimes I can target enemies at a reasonable distance, other times - say an archer across a gap - I can't target them even though they're closer than enemies I've targeted elsewhere but on the same ground level. I was thinking maybe the game is saying 'no you can't target this unless you have a staff/bow. I need to test that.

2 - Fall damage seems really random. I've dropped down off some ledges and died and others that seem a similar distance have given me negligible fall damage. I can't seem to judge which falls are safe and which aren't (never had a problem with this in previous Souls games).

Kill the one in the tunnel outside with magic or arrows jump over the rubble. got killed by one as I was massively underlevelled so not sure whats in there to be honest apart from a locked door.

When you destroy a chest the item inside automatically turns into rubbish. You might miss things as important as estus shards so I don't recommend it.

Does it make me a dick to be summoned as a
bellbro
with a fat stack of corrosion bombs and then, after fully summoning, nail the poor bastard getting mangled by the
dwarf phantoms
with 4-5 of them before cutting him down? Yeah, actually I'm sure it does, but goddamn I don't know if I've ever laughed so hard playing a video game.

You're destroying them. Bonfire aestetics apparently don't reset chests, so you may want to consider restarting, depending on how many you've destroyed and how far you are. Hell, I destroyed one, and I'm considering a fourth game restart...

They seem pretty stingy with boss trophies. I beat 6 bosses so far and only one boss trophy.

isnt that a good thing?
giving out trophies for beating parts of the game that are required to finish the game is lame, lazy design anyway
trophies/achievements should be for doing stuff beyond the bare minimum to finish the game

Kinda want to go back to the Rat cov, join, and get some pharos locks to open up all those doors that were in there.

Might do that today.

well, not gonna lie, got a nice collection of rubbish items! :D

not gonna restart though, doing ok with the things I got. but I'm not gonna hit a wooden box (repeatedly) anymore! D:<

Why are you destroying the chests? You're just destroying all the items. Just open them. You probably missed out on some Estus shards and useful rings.

Try the other 2 places first.

AFAIK Fall damage is no longer percentage based, it is now a fixed value.

Also Gargoyle fight was hard but awesome.

The majula blacksmith only has 10 though. Since there isn't an unlimited supply from farming, I feel much more constrained when it comes to experimenting with gear.

There are a LOT of bosses in this game. Makes sense that they don't give them out so freely.

They seem random. The Pursuer has an intro but no trophy. I don't care about trophies for the optional bosses without intros.

Man time for a break

Just beat beat my head against the
Smelter Demon
for the last few hours. Still can't beat em. Even gave up and started summoning and all that did was make it harder. Most people would just die in the first few moments or in that AOE attack hes got. Down to my last Effigy so I went on with
Iron Keep
. Area was not to bad besides when Id rash the
Old Iron Clads
on the bridge. Dunno why that gave me so much trouble. Normally I can kill them 2 at a time no issue. Guess I was really frustrated. Went trough
Belfry Sol
and ended up pulling the network cable out of my PS3. Holy shit I was get double invaded as soon as I walked in. Was loosing my shit hard in that place. Besides looping back to
Iron Keep
there's nothing else there right? Also
Old Iron king
is the easiest boss in the game so far. Kinda of a let down

Belfry Sol

Go to
Iron keep
climb up the ladder inside the central furnace then work your way to the back past the armored hammer things, use a pharros stone to reveal the bonfire.

Alternatively use the door in the smelting demons chamber bonfire and take a right.

Thank you :)

Yeah, I started to notice something was wrong when my fully hollow self when she had no chest when the armor wasn't on. I literally thought that perhaps while hollow, the breasts just fall off or something due to decay. haha

On this note how do you get to the area on the other side from where you come down into the salamander area?

Hmm...I can't picture the whole area tbh so I'm not sure.

I don't know how far you are, but in Harvest Valley there are dudes with hammers that drop small shards frequently, so you can try there.

Where is said chest located?

quick question: am I destroying the items in the wooden chest if I keep hitting it with the weapon or is there just a lot of rubbish in this game?

Just punch the chest once with your bare fist. If it's a mimic it'll take a couple points of damage, then you can bring out a weapon.

Didn't get any shards from them when I went through, but I'll go back and farm them to extinction, thanks.

Where is said chest located?
It's at the bottom of a long hole you climb down, right before you get to the gutter for the first time.

Out of ideas what to do next.

I've killed
The Lost Sinner, The Rotten, Duke's Dear Freja and the Old Iron King
. Went down to the horror pit of fire salamanders down in Forest of the Fallen Giants but found nothing interesting.

Go to Shaded Woods, the 2nd bonfire has 3 paths, take the left one towards the flexile sentry, there is a path next to him

So, yesterday at night was fun, got
Flexile Sentry
boss down 2nd try just like
The Pursuer
, then, I proceeded to level myself up to use the Drangleic Sword, soooo bad ass.

One thing, I was human and summoned some random guy for
The Pursuer
, when the boss got down, I got hollowed again, what gives?
