Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Does anyone know whether things like PvP kills with the Blue Sentinels are saved if you abandon the covenant and come back? My understanding is that it will save my rank, but I'm not sure if it'll remember that I have, say, 115 out of my 150 kills needed for rank 2.

it saves all progress, unless it's different from every other covenant. I couldn't tell you about blue sentinels because that shit don't work.

It will be saved, you're good. :)

This couldn't possibly contain more spoilers, so don't even think about reading this unless you're ready to move to NG+.

Go back to Smelter Demon to fight Pursuer again
Do all 3 giant memories, the Dragon memory, and kill the giants before the Rotten
Join the Darkness covenant, beat all 3 areas, fight and kill Darklurker
Kill Ancient Dragon
Kill Vendrick, get his soul + armor
Spend 50k + souls on McDuff to get his cheevo
Spend 12k on Ladder guy for his cheevo
Join every covenant for cheevos
Buy all the items off the covenant leaders
Buy all the spells from all the vendors
Revisit Wellager and the Vampire, they will give you items for talking to them again after killing the giant lord / visiting the king.
Invade/Kill Priest Lady
Kill every NPC in the game, except for the old item lady in Majula. Off the top of my head the ones worth killing are - McDuff, Vendor in Iron Keep, Armor salesman, Blue Sentinel covenant leader, Red Sentinel covenant leader, Pate/Creighton, Firekeepers, Hex mage salesman, and Pardoner priest. All of these drop something good/unique, or unlock an armor set on the item lady in Majula. The rest of the NPCs have some drops, but I recall them being mostly garbage, useless, or stuff you've already gotten before. I killed every NPC possible except for the headless guy, moonlight sword guy, and the masked lady (forgot these). Not sure what they drop when killed.
Go to item lady in Majula to buy a lot of the NPC armor sets of people you just killed, you're going to need 100-200k+ souls for this.

Optional, but might be worth doing now:
Use Bonfire Ascetic to get some of the NG+ boss souls if you want to use their weapon for NG+.
Try to do the Moonlight Sword guy or Mask lady quest line with bonfire ascetics if you didn't summon them for those bosses before. It's still possible to do this post game as long as the NPC is still there. However, the last spot the Mask Lady goes to is a 1 time conversation, once she leaves there youre SOL until your next playthrough. Also, since they have to live through these fights, the bonfire ascetic version of some of these bosses are super difficult to accomplish this on. NG+ version will be the same though.

Awesome, thanks a lot! I'll start doing some of that stuff tomorrow.

Okay, what the fuck?

Near end spoiler (boss):

How should I beat the giant in Memory of Orr? One hit an I'm dead. I can't see his his attacks because is so damn tall.

Hell if I know, I'm stuck on him too. The fireballs are the worst though, the forced proximity due to the fireballs is what makes it terrible.

I did look at what I typed, and it shows a progression of short term goals up until the end. All you're given this time around is the end goal without the short steps like before.

No you're given the short steps without the end goal. "Seek larger souls." I can't remember exactly what the Herald says but I'm pretty sure it sums up to "Oh you're cursed? Best get some large souls!" then the crestfallen guy gives you an idea of the different areas.

At this point all I know is that I need larger souls and that, as an undead, I've been drawn to the castle under mysterious circumstances. In DS1 you're only given the short steps at the start, too, until the serpent shows up and says "yo bro I need them souls for this lord vessel", so it's pretty much the same concept.

You're still getting them, they just aren't made out to be big huge things. From the instant you explore Majula a little you know you need to find a way to move a statue that looks like a person, find a way to use the strange contraption in that basement, and find a way down the hole in the center of town. This is no different then finding two bells, climbing Sen's Fortress, and then hunting down 4 bosses. The only difference here is that you can kind of go any way you want instead of being forced down an incredibly linear path.

Anyone? I can't find it anywhere.

I've already depleted my smooth stones trying to get one from the silky crow, with no luck :(

If you want one early game, your best bet is doing small soapstones co-op and trading the stones and hoping you get one. The ONLY place i have found to reliably farm them is in
the Undead Crypt off of the tombstone pyromancer ghost guys.

I love this room. I frequently farm invaders for souls :) Just kill the midgets and then start farming invaders. I heard there is another area later in the game where you can get invaded by the same covenant -- looking forward to it :)

I'm curious to go back and try out my new "Flame Swathe" Pyromancy spell on invaders as they come down the stairs. Prob a bit overpowered though..

Iron Keep is a great place to power level if you feel under leveled at 80. I did a lot of co-op and also cleaned it out to extinction and got my level from mid 80s to 109 there.

Yep, I assisted a ton of people with the first boss and gained a shit ton of souls to get my build to 125 there (probly gonna keep going higher as 150 sounds like a better pvp number). Good enemy drops in this area also. (armour and weapons)

Which place is the
Undead Crypt?

as a pure melee/dual wield build I loved the tension during TLS battle. Especially if you forgot to lighten up the place like me haha

I think in NG + I'm going to purposefully go in there in the dark just so I can experience that. I'm kinda bummed, because if I was playing offline like I did with Dark Souls, I totally would have walked in there without knowing what those doors did.

I guess we'll have to disagree, because I liked the progression in Dark Souls. It might have been a little more linear than it is now, but at least it felt like there was an actual story beyond "just do what you did last time!"

I'm SL 107 - PS3 if someone can meet me in game and drop one of their extra Faintstones. Any takers?

Gargoyles!
:O

Defeated them on my second try. I think the Last Bastille has been my favourite area layout so far, it reminds me of Boletaria for being labyrinthine.

If everyone agreed, there would never be any fun discussions! :)

Don't get me wrong, I loved that progression in Dark Souls 1. Like I said earlier, I really like both games (so far, for DS2)!

Well if you knew the crestfallen guy in Dark Souls 1 led you in the direction of the bells, you should've assumed the guy in Dark Souls 2 would've pointed you in the direction of the souls :P

I found it funny how they keep reusing the crestfallen dude's voice actor lol.

He's like a staple of the series.

At first I thought Last Bastille was a little bland, but I'm digging it more. Good mix of enemies, looks much better with some sconces lit, and some neat shortcuts.

Yeah I'm enjoying Dark Souls II as well, but this has been my biggest gripe by far and it takes away some of the enjoyment of the story for me.

My only other gripes are that parry timing seems to have changed a little (not that I was good at it to begin with), and the reappearance of some old ideas (crestfallen guy, some of the boss fights, etc.). Minor by comparison.

Beat the game at 99. Should probably pump some more levels before going into NG+ though I guess

Damn. To think I'm like SL101ish and only at the Harvest. :lol
Though, I'm a Melee/Sorcerer hybrid with focus on the Sorcerer side of things (as well as Faith/etc..). So my character isn't as focused in one area or the other, just leaning towards Sorcerer more right now

You're around my SL, have a faintstone you're willing to give up? :)

I'm partially with you on some of those. The saddest moment thus far has been discovering the boss in the C
athedral
of B
lue
.
Ornstein not only with no Smough surprise, but being crazy stupid easy. What a letdown! I'm hoping there aren't any more straight up cut and paste bosses.

As for story, I've come to terms with the fact that I'm not detail oriented enough to discover the stories for myself. Hell, I just learned more about Dark Souls 1's story around a month ago when someone linked me the "Prepare to Cry" videos. Thanks to that series, and being completely mistified about how they pieced all that together, I've started reading every single item description, talking to every single NPC, and trying to figure out exactly why I'm finding specific armor in specific places (why did that person die here? Why is that armor here? What kind of weapons did they have? What class did that make them?) It's been a pretty great experience so far.

Asking again about a certain shrine you can
pray to near the end of the game to restore your humanity.

What are the rules for this? I've read that it won't do anything if you have sin, that it won't work if you have effigies in your inventory... but I'm not sure.
I get the prompt to pray but it doesn't do anything. I am hollow and I have some effigies in my inventory.
I have sin because I killed the witches and a couple of other NPCs. It would cost like 100k+ to absolve.
Am I screwed out of using this thing?

You can't have effigies in your inventory and must be hollow. I just did it with that, although I have no sin.. so no idea about that

Are you still seeing a lot of summon signs/able to get summoned? I'm just curious.

Back when Dark Souls was still new someone mentioned that
Ornstein and Smough would not be hard at all if you fought them alone and sure enough they were right. I would really like to know why Ornstein was there to begin with.

Not sure if I have one currently, sorry. (at work now anyways, so :P )

Are you still seeing a lot of summon signs/able to get summoned? I'm just curious.

Depends on the area. Starting around Huntsmen Corpse and beyond, I see summons everywhere. Even could be summoned to do several
skeleton
boss battles in the area without too much issue. I'm sure the rate I'm able to do so will start to slow down.

Has anyone experienced hacks in this game?

I was in Old Bastille and summoned a red phantom. He was a caster type guy, and I brought all his health down to zero but he didn’t die. The battle happened really fast and got a little crazy. And I thought I had killed him, but half a second later somehow there was some huge explosion (not sure if it was one of those barrels or if it was some spell he did) and I ended up dying and he was standing there with zero health left. Then he did the 'no way' gesture, lol.

I’m not necessarily accusing him of hacking (I’ve been killed legitimately more times than I can count), I just want to understand what happened. Just not sure if there’s some item that keeps red phantoms alive somehow. It also seemed like it could’ve been that armor set with really low durability that has some ‘great power’ upon breaking, like that’s what caused the explosion that killed me if he was wearing it.

Who knows maybe he just had 1hp left and I never brought him down.

I also messaged him after like “lol wtf happened why didn’t you die?” and he wrote back something like “Narh Alma protects his followers hehehe” or some cryptic shit like that.

So, anyone know wtf happened?

So does anyone have any tips on beating the (wheelchair wizard spoiler)
Dark Chasm of Old zones
?

I am being brutalized so hard. I have beaten
Havel and Ricard but the Shotel woman i
s killing me and I can by no means beat the first two reliably. I'm about level 110 with a 40 Dex and a maxed out Murakomo but it feels like I just should not be here yet. Any tips or weaknesses from those who've done these zones?

Does Blue Sentinel work in Bell Towers? I was just invading as a bellbro and the person I invaded had a blue phantom that was casting soul arrows at me.

Guys, are there any penalties for leaving Covenants like in DS1? Im tired of Blue sentinels being useless, and I need titanite chunks.

K, I'm a little lost...(early game-ish spoilers)

Just killed the lost sinner and ornstein, and have no idea where to go. Have one special (primeval?) bonfire lit.

Can I get some tips for (late game boss)
ancient dragon? I am getting one shottted by his fire attack when he flys into the air and I can figure out how to escape it
.
