Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

No shield? You use a melee character? I'd like to drop the shield and just use my greatsword if you have any tips. I'm way too heavy.

Well, I didn't bother with a greatsword(I'm assuming you mean the ultra greatsword greatsword) in this game yet, but I do have one heavier character(my 2nd one) and I did have a greatsword in dark souls 1. For a greatsword it's a bit different than a shorter weapon.

Get a ring of giants for some extra poise and a bit of the Knight armor(Second Dragon ring and the Royal Soldier ring should help with weight problems). With enough poise, you'll be able to take a decent hit without staggering, and when you do you'll be able to stagger the enemy yourself with your greatsword. With a greatsword, range is your advantage, so you should be able to hit enemies before they get a shot off easily enough if you time it properly, and the vast majority of small enemies will either be stunned or dead after that.

Medium sized bosses in DS1 normally staggered after 2-3 hits with an ultra greatsword, so that's where the poise comes in. Make sure you're able to take a hit from a boss and keep hitting him till he's stunned. Larger bosses you just have to dodge at the right time and throw 1-2 hits in.

If you're talking like a Claymore(i.e. normal) greatsword however, you wanna be fast and dodgey. Fortunately the speed class above 25% isn't much slower in DS2, so you'll be fine above that for the most part(I noticed that there's a slightly slower roll between 50-60% before you hit the slow roll).

In either case, if you're working on a two-handed build, adaptibility is your friend. Gives you extra invunerability frames while rolling, and fortunately it scales your armor and poison damage as well.

Edit:

Souls are a finite resource and you don't want to waste them if you don't have to.

With pvp and summoning, they are not finite. Items are difficult to farm however. Though you can still get item drops from enemies in other people's worlds.

It's hilarious. It was my instinct at first as well, and no doubt From put destructible chests in for that very reason.

It's a pretty smart/dick move. I'm still surprised that so many people fall for it. Also surprised that they CONTINUE TO BREAK THEM.

I think it's hilarious. People are terrified of chests. Just think what will happen when they get the bright idea to make some enemy that can mimic ANYTHING in the environment. Chairs, barrels, whatever.

Mimic Doors. Upon opening they will swallow you whole. That one's free FROM.

Why would they do that? It doesn't get destroyed after one hit, but you only need to hit it once to see if it's a mimic

I don't know man. I always just hit once to check. I mean only came across
3 mimics in my entire run.

got buried

how can i
open the two doors to the left and right before the lost sinner fight ?

You need to defeat the gargoyles first. Then you get the key.
You can open those 2 doors and use a torch to light the boss room, making it easier to lock on the boss

Any advice on the
Smelter Demon
?

I'm going to just
farm a Gyrm Great Shield, which has 100 physical and fire defense
and try him again. I died like 10 times a couple of days ago.

After the Ruin Sentinels, there's a room under the first bonfire that you come across. Use a Pharos Lockstone, go through the next area, and clear the boss and the rest of the area. You'll get the key you need.

gargoyles ? i finished everything in the tower got all items but cant open them

hey i joined the covenant in majula called victor's something, the description made it sound like it would made the enemies harder but i notice no difference also i got a tablet with a leaderboard on it. Can someone spoil what does the covenant actually do.
I beat the
gargoyles
that was a fucking bitch of a fight but i did it yay!
Also does anyone else finds this game is packed with stuff to do and discover? there's so many doors and stuff to find. I don't remember dark souls being this dense.

Essentially you are playing hard mode. No summons and enemies are all NG+.

The zone you're doing is the hardest of them in my opinion. My strategy was.....

.....The main problem with these guys is that they are excellent at destroying the "block and circle strafe" strategy we're all so used to. Meeting them head on found me much greater success.

Thanks man, that sounds about right. I'm not playing now but I've been meaning to do a more aggressive strategy. Part of it is the psychological element too, knowing that I need to use a human effigy every time I want to retry makes me want to be more defensive, which in turn spells my doom.

I'll try again later and see how it goes.

Advice for anyone trying to be summoned as a phantom in the
Pursuer
fight: Please don't
shoot the human host with the ballista right before the Pursuer is dead.
Wasted my effigy summoning a moron...

gargoyles ? i finished everything in the tower got all items but cant open them

That's weird.
After beating them you should continue then there is a broken stairway you need to jump down and somewhere around there you should find the key (I don't remember exactly where it is)

ill look around thanks

Sometimes while I'm playing in another person's world, it will just randomly tell me DUTY FULFILLED, and send me back. We could be just fighting some random regular mobs and it will do it.

Okay Fuck.

I'm at Earth Peak trying to beat the area boss:
that poison snake medusa bitch
.

She's not that hard, were it not for the
continuous poisened status that forces me to heal, therefore giving her a chance to attack, therefore killing me. I found that one of Elisabeths Mushrooms works quite well, but I only had 1. I'm sort of out of radiant healing gems as well.

Look around the area carefully.
You can get rid of the poison.

The small soapstone has a time limit. I don't really know why though. Strange design choice.

Might want to explore some more before trying that fight again.

you're using the small soapstone instead of the normal one you're supposed to get from Pate. It has a time limit and that goes down with each mob you kill.

Its advantages are that you get crow trade items for doing so or killing bosses, and you can still be summoned after the host has killed the area boss. I've been using it over the normal one myself lately, since I have no use for sunlight medals or tokens of fidelity.

All phantoms and shades have a 'limit'. Phantoms last much longer but their range is much lower. Shades can only kill 5-7 things (not in a boss fight) and get sent home but they have a HUGE summon range.

I mostly use the small white soapstone now. Easier.

Anyone around SL 107 - PS3 who can drop a Faintstone for me? I can trade something back for it.

Can I get some tips for (late game boss)
ancient dragon? I am getting one shottted by his fire attack when he flys into the air and I can figure out how to escape it
.

This took me at least 20 tries but I finally got it.
The aerial flame blast is definitely the hardest part. My strategy is to go through the fog gate, run about half way to him and wait. As soon as he starts rearing up for his ground flame attack, sprint slightly to the right and start hammering his right foot. The second he stops shooting flames, run out in front of him a bit and let your stamina start recharging. The millisecond he starts flapping his wings for an aerial attack, I would sprint at about a 90 degree angle toward the edge of the map. Once the flames stop, start jogging back to him about halfway to bait his ground flame attack. Once he rears up for it, sprint at the right foot again and start attacking. Rinse, repeat. It takes some practice, but I was able to melee him to death pretty easily once I got this routine down.

Guys can I just use the white "soul of a lost undead" soul of a proud knigh Or do I need to hold on for later in the game (to feed them to someone for more souls)

Can some anwser this please? Give me a good anwser

There's way to get rid of it.

Spoilers on how:
Teleport to the bonfire near the water wheel and light it on fire with a torch.

I'm higher level -- and I'm not sure if I even have one -- but a small white soapstone / red sign should make it possible. I'll be playing in a few hours, my PSN is sullichin. Message me if you see me.

Don't need to hold onto them. That being said, I like to keep them in case I find a merchant in the middle of nowhere and have no souls left on me to buy what s/he is selling.

Use them all if you want, but you'll regret it when you're sitting at the level up lady and stuck with 200 souls needed for your next level. Or if you find a nice vendor and have no souls on you.

They're not needed for ANYTHING important, but it's smart to keep some in your inventory at all times just in case.

You can get rid of the poison.

In the boss arena? Or... somewhere... else?

All i can find is the pharros lockstone, and when I placed the stone poison fell out of it. Please don't say I shouldn't have done this

I was talking with a friend last night, wishing there was a sort of Hide and Seek boss that was a Mimic. Can you imagine being in a maze filled with junk, just knowing that the Mimic is somewhere waiting to Chomp you. When it does, it grabs you, chomps you, and throws you over a wall while it then scurries off to a new location to hide? I'd be goddamn terrified and would love every minute of it if done correctly.

What does respeccing? Im not English and can't find the right meaning.

I'm sure someone has already posted, but...

"Spec is an abbreviation of Specialization (or sometimes specification). "Re," as you know, means "to do again."

So, re-specialization, or reset and allocate your souls over again.

What does this even mean?
1.What are Shades?
2.Whats the diffrence between big and small soapstone

You'll find similar items throughout the game. While it is a finite resource there's no need to hold onto it. The benefit of having a lot is if you meet a merchant in the middle of nowhere you have some immediate access to currency even if you haven't collected enough fighting your way to them, or helping pass a threshold for attaining your next level when you're not close enough.

I personally forget about them for hours at a time then level up like crazy.

Duration of summon and rewards for completion. The big stone summons longer and gives Tokens of Fidelity, while the small sign summons for briefer windows and offers silky stones.
