Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Mushroom Kingdom 1 and 2, Super Mario World in Melee and Mario Kart in Brawl? They were all static.

In terms of neglecting Mario Kart I meant more of the platformers (that also didn't star separate series characters like DK/Wario) but I stand corrected on the other ones lol.

Re: the character select screen discussion, I've been thinking of the menus a lot and despite the light aesthetic it seems to be going for similarly to Brawl I kind of hope that we get more of a Melee/Project M menu with darker colors. It always looked good with Smash. How about bringing up some images of the actual in-game character models on the select screen like in the original Smash Bros or other fighting games?

I can imagine something like a cross between Melee and the neat holograph renders in Mario Strikers Charged.

So if there was 10 newcomers, that gives us 5 more slots.

If we assume Mii and Pac-Mac are in that gives us 2 of those already, plus Palutena is 3.
I'd say Mewtwo is practically guaranteed, and while not a newcomer, he's being added onto the Brawl roster. So that's one more 'unexpected' character, and I think it'd go to Dixie Kong.

Beyond that though I can't really think of anyone big and obvious to include, and it's the more obscure characters that I really enjoy being in Smash, so I'm really hoping the newcomer count is closer to 15, giving us a 50 character total, and allowing room for characters like Takamaru and Shulk
and Wonder-Red and Hades please Sakurai.

Truthfully I don't really wanna try out any of the current newcomers. I really wanna try out bowser almost more than anything.

I think I want to try out rosalina first, then wii fit trainer, then megaman, then lil mac and then finally the villager, this is all subject to change ofcouse when more newcomers get announced.

I'd like to try and get good at villager, he seems fun and weird.

Rosalina's gonna be the first newcomer I try out
dropping her if she sucks, but I'm betting she won't suck

Well I feel like I am in the minority here, but I am really excited to try out Wii Fit Trainer. She seems pretty mobile with faster hitting smash attacks (from her release trailer). Like someone above posted, the idea of kicking people's trash with Wii Fit Trainer is just too much to pass up for me. As much as I am excited for Megaman's inclusion, I fear that I won't enjoy playing as him as his playstyle just doesn't really mesh with my current playstyle (I main DeDeDe and Ganondorf along with the Random button). Little Mac seems like someone I would really like; he seems like he can take quite a bit of damage as well as dish it back out. Rosalina i'm torn on, I really enjoy playing as Olimar and Pikmin but hate playing as ice climbers and I really just can't tell if I will enjoy her or not. Villager seems like a troll character and I could see myself having some fun with him occasionally.

Thanks for all the replies ( I know there were more!). I like how everyone has their own reasons for wanting to try out different characters, be it for play-style, hype, intrigue, fun, etc. This will likely change in time with more reveals and when we actually get the game but it interesting to see where we stand right now.

Anything close to 50 would be amazing. 45-50 is where I'm staying at. That select screen is going to be awesome.

And that isn't even the size of a 3DS screen.

This is.

Yeah, 45-50 seems like a safe bet. If it's even close to fifty, I'll be more than satisfied. Can't wait to see the final select screen because it will be gorgeous.

Ridley is a stage hazard.

My optimistic side is hoping that the "48 characters, 4 cuts" rumor is true. It probably isn't, though.

I've always thought that 49 would be a perfect number, and if Brawl's roster returns plus the 5 newcomers, there's 40 right there, leaving plenty of room for more popular characters and obscure ones. And I sure hope the random button stays - that was a great feature that Brawl added.

haha nice.

Question, out of the newcomers so far, who are you looking forward to putting some practice into? Is there any new characters so far you think you'd like to get the most out of before deciding if their worth it? I remember for Brawl it was Ike for me. I was happy he was in and I had to main him. heh

So far I'm leaning towards Mac and Luma and Rosalina. Mac seems like a guy you can be pretty reckless with but at the same time you have to be wary of how close you are to the ledge. Those jab combos, super frames, his speed, and power punches.. mac looks like a lot of fun and I can't wait to see how people make the best out of him. Luma seems like the opposite of Mac but the idea of having a puppet you can control (Rosalina) at anytime looks awesome.

Wii Fit Trainer reminds me a lot of Zero Suit Samus so far in her general mobility, and I loved her during my Brawl escapades. So far she's definitely my go to newcomer.

Little Mac kind of comes a close second but he looks really complicated to use so I want to get used to the game before I dive into him. Mega Man looks interesting to try out if only to play a character that controls identically to his source material but I'm not expecting him to be a mainstay for me.

As long as they don't cut any of the unique characters and add Palutena (and maybe even Pac-Man), then I'm good. 45 is a good number IMO.

I went back and played a little Melee, and couldn't help but take a pic of my proudest achievement:

Check that total tho. Lowest score is Pikachu's 1157.8. Thats the LOWEST :D

I just checked, and looks like in Melee, Samus was actually shorter than Zelda and Peach. Ha! They fixed in in Brawl though. I wonder how Rosalina and Wii Fit Trainer stack up compared to the female veterans.

A lot of people think of Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Squirtle, Charizard, Ivysaur, Zelda and Sheik count as 7 characters. I personally count the squares on the character select screen.
Zero Suit Samus is basically a separate character thanks to how circumstantial switching between the two is.
On the topic of Lumiose City, I should finally start playing Y or X.

Have all of the Lumiose City problems been patched by now? Do I need to do anything special to download the patch, and/or is there anything I should still be especialy careful to avoid (like avoiding saving outside a building in Lumiose City)?
Lumiose City glitches have been fixed by the patch.

Lumiose City itself is a Goddamn mess.

Rosalina's the tallest gal with WFT just behind her. AKA Little Mac feels awful about being a newcomer because every time he punches a chick, nine times out of ten he's punching them in the boob.

Keep in mind Samus is supposedly 6'3 :p

Why are people so convinced about Takamaru, Chrom and Shulk?

Chrom because Awakening was best selling or something along those lines and people think he's the "face" of that game so new lord for new smash
Shulk because Xenoblade success in the west (at least according to Reggie or whoever it was at Nintendo that said that) and maybe to use as hype for X even though the two games will probably not be related
No clue why Takamaru

Takamaru is really prominent among retro characters in Japan, has been referenced in a lot of games as of late (Captain Rainbow, Samurai Warriors, Nintendo Land), and Sakurai himself has mentioned him as being pretty likely in the past.

Chrom is sort of in Ike's position, so he's the obvious new Fire Emblem rep from a really popular game. No idea on Shulk, though - he seems like a possibility to me but no more than, like, Isaac.

lol

I think originally people said Takamaru would get in because he has a mini game in Nintendo Land and that Sakurai previously mentioned him in some interview or something. I could be wrong and my memory may be a bit hazy on this.

Samurai told me Takamaru is in Smash 4. I trust the word of his sword.

I think I vaguely remember someone telling me something along those lines a while back too, maybe in a previous thread. Been so many posts, can't remember lol

It doesn't guarantee anything
just like every other character guess lol

I wouldn't mind having Lucina though!

:P
