i really wish
belltower invasions were handled a little more...interestingly. maybe increase the floors of belfry luna, invaders can only come in at the bottom half floors, and if you manage to ring the bell the invaders lose and die. i mean, that's the point of the convenant right? to stop people from ringing the bell.

Yeah. It should at least send them back if you ring the bell.

This game is a lot more enjoyable offline. Too many things are given away by messages(even if you don't read them, it pretty much tells you something is hidden there) and no annoying invasions

I always felt part of the fun was that everyone was helping each other out albeit in vague ways. But yeah, invasions once you're late in the game screw things up since you can't get out of it by being hollowed. Admittedly they needed to do something to ensure people had a good base to play with, but I think what'd work better is that you'd be harder to invade until you went full hollow, then you were never invaded.

So who else is doing NG+

I am being told NG+ removes the soul memory limits.

So, there are enough people to summon for bosses and stuff, or is it desert island?

I hope that is the case actually, since everyone in NG + will at least be at a certain level and would be familiar with everything.

I agree about the messages, they give away a lot of the exploration aspect of the game, which is unfortunate. However, I like invasions so I have no problem on that end.

I summoned other players to beat a boss for the first time in Souls history for the L
ost
S
inner
and now I feel like I've cheated. I was just really sick of the area and was making no progress on the boss, but summoning other players has made it feel like a hollow victory. The realization that she was an Old One made me regret the decision even more. I guess I'll just persevere from now on.

I haven't had any problems with invasions, aside from being in areas that are purely for invasions in the first place.

I'm having a blast with this game, I gotta say. Every area has been pretty great outside of one or two that were just meh. Although I'm crossing my fingers there's some kind of Duke's Archives-type location in the late game. That + Anor Londo were my two favorite locations in Dark Souls.

Should just be an option to disable messages/bloodstains imo

Made some good pregress earlier, fully explored (as far as I can tell) No Man's Wharf, levelled up about 6 times, upgraded my Estus Flask twice, beat 2 bosses without dying, joined the
Knights of Blue
covenant. Still haven't been summoned with the ring though :(

When summoned like that, does it take you to areas you haven't visited yet? If so, screw that.

Real basic question, but how do you switch arrow types on the fly? I've completely forgotten :P

fake edit: Actually, didn't die once in about 3 hours, including the entirety of
No Man's Wharf

Hey, quick question, maybe someone can help.

I got
all five Souls of a Giant
and have now
beaten Vendrick
. Can I
consume the Souls
now? I'm going to take a wild guess and estimate that
they probably don't carry over into New Game +
so it seems like it might be a good idea to do this now, unless
someone has found another use for them
or knows for a fact that
they actually do carry over to NG+
.

Thank you so much in advance for your time! I really appreciate any feedback regarding this.

L1 to fire the first slot of arrows, L2 for the second slot. Switching is automatic. R1/R2 if the bow is in a right hand slot.

Sigh.

I would have loved to play this game. Jumped the gun and sold my 360 last year.

I'll live vicariously through you all.

So I remember people complaining about the halberd, but I'm really enjoying it. Positioning yourself to hit with the sweet spot makes for a nice change of pace with weapons, and it's pretty dang strong too.

Cheers. Bit silly that they didn't automatically put bow-aiming/firing on L1 to aim, R1 to fire like every game in the last 20 years :P

Gonna have to put the bow in my right hand now, will take a while to get used to that.

Always had shield and bow in the left hand before

For those who didn't know: If the bow is in your left hand, press L1 to "ready" it, then holding R1 puts you in first person mode and press L1 to shoot.

I know it's backwards, but Dark Souls 2 isn't an FPS, so I'm fine with this. I only go into that mode to snipe while I'm in a safe spot, then break off if an enemy draws near. I like that I can use weapons in the left hand the same as my right since I'm a superior lefty.

I wouldn't mind invasions after an initial playthrough. Getting ganked when I'm learning the ropes isn't my thing heh

Well, when something is close enough in controls in this sort of way it could throw me off, but that's why options are good. And the fact we now have 3 slots rather than 2, too bad they always count towards equip burden so it ended up only being useful when I also threw a pyromancy flame on.

Got to Belfry Luna in NG+, after a bro helped me kill the
sentinels
(I died three times on that boss. I ended up summoning the very same bro four times. was pretty shameful).

Belfry was easy; just booked it
for the final floor, killed most of the dwarves, was killing the last one
as I see an invader get up the stairs

We stood there measuring each other for a few tense moments. I just open with a lightning spear just to make him move. then I club him and he runs. eventually he leaves
the lever alone so I can pull it.

Then I do the "mock" gesture and as my earthly worry of
opening the boss room
was left behind, the real duel started

I couldn't get lucky with the club enough. Hit him when he tried some fancy magic, but eventually he got the best of me. Not really geared to PvP. He did the bow gesture as I died. Wicked chivalrous.

Then I tried the
gargoyles
a few times. The time I won, someone managed to invade and I crossed the mist door with him on hot pursuit

This game is so great you guys.

that was kind of their design goal it seems. It's hard to get cracked eye orbs in new game, but they are available infinitely from a vendor in new game+. However NG+ players can't interact with people on their first run.

So I get to the last section of the game and the main doors won't open. The
left statue is bugged and won't take in any souls of nearby dead enemies.
Please don't tell me I wasted 30+ hours of my life.

Took a 3 day hiatus from DSII due to family visiting, but made some more progress tonight. I just beat the
Dragonrider.
He was probably the easiest boss of the three I've beat so far. Hopefully they get harder.

So where should I go from here? Continue on to
No Man's Wharf
or somewhere else? As a Paladin, I'm really interested in finding the
Dragonslayer's Crescent Axe
to replace my mace, is it possible for me to get this yet?

That statue is super assholish. Did the same to me. Eventually it took the souls.

Uggghhhh the fucking Iron Keep made my blood boil, but I did it!
The boss was pretty easy though.

Now where to go from here...

So when do you start to unlock cool gear?.

I've been using a Bastard Sword +3 for a LONG time now. It's still doing good damage but I miss my Katanas. When do you get the Uchigatana or something like that.

Same goes for armor. Finally found a chestplate that's better than the one I've been using for most of the game but I was dissapointed by how it looks. It's the strongest chestplate I've found so far and it looks like some old clothes.

Now that im in no mans wharf, do I really notice how flat the lightening is. Kinda brings me out of it. Has a consensus been reached yet on optimal settings either on TV or your ps3? The dark stalkers dont even look like they are stalking in Amy darkness haha

Uchigatana can be obtained
after delivering the Dull Ember in Iron Keep to McDuff, the blacksmith in The Lost Bastille.

Did about 10 PvP matches earlier at around SL90.

Yea, it's going to be a while before the community gets a grasp on what works well.

I've been using the Fire Longsword I got 2 hours in for about 13 hours now, still beasting :D

Shit scaling is gonna render it useless soon I feel, but haven't found a suitable replacement yet

Hell, that's my build. But I juggle weapons. Greatwords, and axes mostly. I find Magic Pew Pew distance builds boring.

Nothing more exciting for me than running up and chucking my giant ass blade in yo face!

came off alot more douchy then I meant but I'm most likely mess around with the greatswords after I'm down with dual wield and scythe

Non spoilers:
From Majula, you have to go through 4 areas and 4 bosses before you reach the place where the item needed to access the Uchigatana is located. Then you must give that item to an NPC, who is two areas(different from the route to the item) and two bosses away from Majula.

Hmm, want to try a katana out. Is the Uchigatana or Blacksteel Katana better (or is there a better katana later on)? Have a 40 in Dex at the moment.
