Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

I haven't played a game in three months, but Dark Souls 2 brought me back. I really like it so far though for some reason it doesn't capture me as much as the first two games did. I think the many bonfires and the fast travel make the game easier than the first two. But with a world as big I probably would be really annoyed if I had to walk back and forth without warping, so I understand why they put fast travel in the game. The NPCs aren't as memorable as the ones in Demon's and Dark, except the fencer girl with the mask maybe. But overall it's still a really great game.

I'm doing a blind playthrough and the game progression is a bit confusing. I just went through the Shaded Woods but apparently that's a late game area as all three paths were blocked. Then I jumped down the well and got to the Grave of Saints but every time I go in there I get summoned as a grey phantom, which is really annoying, what's that about? So I looked for another area and now I'm in Earthen's Peak, is this the right way? I'm SL 90 after about 15 hours, seems a bit fast.

Where do you get the ember for adding magic or fire scaling to weapons? I'm still using the fire longsword from the beginning of the game and I'm getting tired of it. It has low durability and breaks pretty easily. I only have 12 STR and 35 INT though, that really limits my options lol.

I'm a little bit stuck right now, I have many paths to take but in every one of them I get totally raped.

On Sinner's Rise after going down the elevator the weird beast there and the exploding guys rape me.
You can lure the beasts on the elevator, make it go up and they will become trapped on the platform above, after which they will probably fall to death in the hole beneath the elevator. Then make sure you clear the zombie's left and right first and then each room left and right carefully. If they come at you, wait around a corner, then target them and attack quickly so that they have no chance of doing the drop attack. Clear all rooms before you turn the switch.

Ok fuck this. I'm giving up on that goddamn
chariot.

By itself it's manageable but I can't deal with the respawning skeletons. Not enough stamina to block them out.

How I dealt with it:

Run run run to a hole in the wall, beat skeletons, estus up, run to first mage, kill them, run to second mage, kill them, estus and run around killing skeletons or let chariot kill them since they stop respawning with mages gone, kill boss :)

I really can't deal with enemies ganging up on me in tight spaces.

i've lost plenty of PVP matches because im not good enough with ultra great sword.

Just do a 360 rolling charge aim strike on where you think the enemy will try to roll.
Shit is broken when you roll attack with such a long range, and hit people where they least expected it.
If you get hit in the process during the roll attack, both party will be stunned, but you have the higher dmg exchange while you can recover and roll/block away.

Or just cheese it, and do a STR/FTH scaling with Lightning or Dark Greatsword.
If they have a good shield to block your elemental dmg, just Emit Force stun yo...

kill the necromancers and they will stop respawning. First one is on the left, second on the right. Let the chariot take care of the skeletons

Stamina management is paramount. Anyone who knows what they're doing will know you'll deplete your stamina after 3 or so swings and will chase you after your attacks/dodge. Other than that, know what your moveset is by heart, like 1H roll attack is usually a huge sweep, and learn their timings so you know how long it takes to swing and when it's safe to swing.

I use it in pvp all the time. 1 shots most ppl and sometime the ball ends up behind them so they dont see it coming.
Its pretty broken tbh
It's useless against anyone who is decent. People who are getting hit by it don't know how to dodge it. If you roll the moment the "cast" animation happens you'll already be out of range of the explosion, it's always a free hit when I see someone use it.

Problem is that I can't kill the necromancer without the skeletons just ganging up on me at my back.

I can't imagine doing that part without a decent shield, to be honest. :\
The ideal is to block, wait for them to get crushed by the chariot, then run. Sometimes you might need to get in a hit or two to finish them off (or pre-damage them and let the chariot do the rest). Stam regen and poise also helps, but not a whole lot. I'm not sure what I did differently the one time I did win (I usually got guard-broken and crushed by skeletons in tight spaces too), but I think managing your stamina as best as you can and a bit of luck will go a long way. Also, LOCK OFF when running, when the skeletons respawn you might get turned around otherwise.

Good luck!

Was thrilled to finally see the beta area (Corpse) again, but... that
skeleton lords
boss fight though... haha wtf? Difficulty is up there with Pinwheel.

yeah flame swathe is free kills against people who don't know what flame swathe is, but it's useless against anyone who just rolls up and smacks you in the face. Although it's significantly more useful in the luna bell tower because of the confined spaces/ladder.

Do the pigs in Majula really drop Cracked Red Eye Orbs? Do they disappear like other enemies?

I'll try that in the morning.

Never seen one drop from them. Really there's only one reliable way to get them
Use tokens of spite to challenge other pvpers

what I did is run till the chariot was about to come and then get to the hole and block, so the skeletons cant enter with me. That way the chariot deals with them. If they survive its with a tiny HP left and a swing of my Bastard sword was more than enough to kill multiple of them with one hit. I probably was overleveled though, I think i was 80ish

Yeah my build is not built around having tons of stamina, though I'm going to pump in more.

Nah fuck it. It's not a critical path boss so I can't bring myself to care anymore. I'll come back once I feel my equipment and stamina can deal with it. I can't use any 100 physical block shield for example.

So are the Blue Sentinels completely broken? I was part of that covenant for my entire playthrough and I only got summoned 3 or 4 times to defend an invadee and the cracked blue eye orb just won't work no matter what.

I also barely get invaded by red phantoms. Again, maybe 3 or 4 in my entire playthrough. Invading on my own with a red orb works like a charm though.

Lingering Flame+standing under the stair with column supports on each sides in bell tower is so stupid...If you are a melee without any range...well, you are fucked.
It acts as a proxy mine on the staircase, and when you step down the stair in search for them...boom.
Those lingering flames are so hard to see since the staircase sometime covers them...
Hell, sometime they cast flame swathe point blank to bait you into rolling into Lingering Flame that is on top of them...

Yeah, you definitely need a better weapon. I can't give advice on that since I don't know your stats, though. But as for to go next, you do have another option but it's not necessarily easier than those you have open:
After defeating the Dragonrider, you surely met a woman that sells miracles. She'll have relocated in the contraption area that led to Heide's tower from Majula. Pay her 2k souls to open up a new area. This new area has two bosses, one that's optional and the other that's required to proceed on a long but very rewarding path.

Thanks.
I was thinking about checking there earlier, but forgot about it and then I went to bed.

As for my weapon, I've been trying out all kinds of different clubs, swords and axes. None of them screams "USE ME!" though, and I'm hesitant to upgrade since I only have a few shards. I think I wanna go for a STR-based weapon, but due to my unfocused leveling I can't really do that. Yet.

I'm not really interested in PvP, at least not at the moment, so I just want something for PvE, as a melee character.

There's just a lack of invades happening. I'd wager most people don't like to invade, and the ones who do have to farm those stones if you want to invade. You cant' even farm them until you reach a certain part in the game too.

Yeah I did it one time by chance, but tried it on the other beast and It would not fall on the hole lol.

I was pretty tired when I tried this area and was trying to rush it, today I'll try to do it the Dark Souls way

after it clicks how to do it, it's pretty easy.

hide in a cubbyhole and hold the shield up. look for a necromancer (the first of two) on the left side in a cubby hole. kill him and the skeletons near him will stop respawning. the second necromancer will be a bit further down on the right side. kill them both and get the skeletons dead. then throw the lever.

Was thrilled to finally see the beta area (Corpse) again, but... that
skeleton lords
boss fight though... haha wtf? Difficulty is up there with Pinwheel.

I found the boss to be incredibly easy once I figured out what to do.

Kill a lord, then kill the skeletons that spawn right away. Kill another lord, then kill the skeletons that spawn right away. Kill the Skeleton Lord with the Staff at the end because he spawns the wheel skeletons which are ultra annoying

So, after I put this game down from being frustrated..I started another character...and magically I'm at the end-game about to down the final boss. Not sure what clicked this time, but there you go. He's a dex/faith guy right now, but I'll be respeccing him into a hexmaster down the road or I might shelve the game until the PC version for some real PvP action (and to hack the game to bits and become ultra powerful)

That's another reason why I'll prob shelve the game until the PC version...barely any invades going on. I'm not a big fan of invasions...but I grew to love them and am eager to get that shit going. But the Blue Sentinels are completely worthless...I had to go find one of those little tokens in the gameworld just to talk to the guy because I wanted a Boltstone. After joining up I haven't been summoned at all. Most of the PvP is probably going down in NG+ though.

You can use
Soul Remains, if you have any, to distract the skellies while you attack the necromancer.

I'll definitely keep that in mind next time I go at him again.

Still, have to say that as far as designs go it is definitely one of the coolest bosses in the souls series.

Plenty of pvp at iron keep, just not invades. But ya people have the chance to have ample supplies of red cracked at NG+.

Just got summoned as a Blue Sentinel for the second time, this time in Heide's Tower. Seems to be happening a little bit more now. The Blue Cracked Eye Orbs still don't really work yet though.

are you on 360? i can drop down a summon sign if you need help.

I am going to go hunting for the Murakumo.

I just want to confirm, does the Murakumo require Twinkling titanite or just Titanite shards to upgrade?

Aww boo, there's barely any straight sword boss soul weapons.

I'm a STR/DEX build and for the most part have stuck using the Fire Longsword. I was just wondering if GAF has any weapon recommendations at all? My character now has the stats to use the Drangleic sword, but I have yet to give it a go.

Fully upgraded uchigatana and fully upgraded manslayer while power stance is the greatest thing ever. Dual wielding katanas. My dream has come true.

Also, finally beat the game. Last boss was incredibly anticlimactic. Spammed pyromancy fireballs for days.

Claymore

Beat both
Executioner Chariot
and
Skeleton Lords
in my first try; the former being a pretty fun and unique boss! That said, i hope there is more to the area (corpse). I genuinely like it, lol.

Edit: so theres the (covenant)
brotherhood for blood
, yes!

I beat
Darklurker
(on my 4th try I think) and
Vendrick
tonight (bonus bosses spoiler).

Darklurker was quite challenging, he hits quite hard and he can become a real pain in the ass when he clones himself. After a while his clone stopped doing anything though. Was that intended or was that a bug? Anyway, I beat his ass and got his soul.

Vendrick was really easy though, I killed him on my first try. I had 4 giant souls so he was still at 200% health. I think I could have done it just as easily with only 3 giant souls: I only got hit once near the beginning of the fight. I was wearing a heavy armour and the Gyrm greatshield which made it so I could block two of his attacks and survive 1 hit of his sword. I didn't roll a single time during the fight, I was just circle strafing him and attacking him twice with a claymore after he attacked.

Now I just have the
ancient dragon
left to kill... That's probably going to be a bit harder.

Thanks, for the tips, both of you. I'll do a respec on my faith guy for the str build and test out both the bastard and claymore movesets before I decide :)

Claymore move set is really good, especially the range with the R2 stab. I've just gotten the Dragonslayer Spear though, and think I'm going to respec it into for the rest of the game. Such a fitting weapon for a high faith cleric. Never been a big fan of spear movesets though! Jab jab jab and more jab.

The weapon requires a spread across both STR/Dex as well so not really an idea min/max weapon. The Defenders Greatsword is apparently where its at for a STR/Faith build but you don't get it till end game.

There's a certain distance where it'll activate and you can easily bait it and dodge out of the way once you know it. It's about a (non fat) roll and a half away.

ya I know, but that roll can leave you open for something. Just annoying as hell, there's nothing fun about it.

Nah, roll to the side. From a 1.5 rolls away it's incredibly safe. Hit detection on homing soul mass is surprisingly lag proof too.

Damn, how many uses do pyromancy spells even have? This guy threw I dunno how many firestorms, fireballs, and some stationary explosion spell in the course of a 5 minute fight.
