Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Ho ho ho, take that first boss of Old Iron Keep. And give some to the optional boss that follows you.

Really enjoying this area.

There's a glitch apparently which may revive you after helping someone beat a boss. I've had it happen to me a few times already.

I just helped someone kill a boss, and I turned human, again. I used a Token of Fidelity, so either the token makes you human once you kill the boss, or helping someone kill a boss undoes one level of dying. So if you died twice since you were human, you need to help someone twice

How do you kill the giants underneath the Black Gulch as a melee? It's pitch fucking black in there. If I carry a torch then they 1 shot me because I don't have a shield. If I'm going to use ranged then I'm going to need 100+ arrows / bolts.

Wait, you were pretty down on the game pre release right? I remember a post of yours where you were expecting a complete disappointment, as there was negativity when the first streams hit. Glad to see you're enjoying it :)

Yeah. I walked into this expecting to really, really hate it. But I was terribly wrong on all fronts. Lots of people told me, to wait and see how the changes would work in the context of the game. I scoffed. Guess what? These people were right. Game is a diamond.

Try to lure one of them out. Then circle around him, wait for him to hit, and then hit him one or two time. Then circle around him again.

I've been loving the game and was expecting to, I'm glad it's winning over some of the skeptics as well. Our pre-release faith or despair was rooted in our genuine love of the Souls games after all.

Shoot an arrow and lure then outside. Once near the ledge, melee them bit by bit.

I think they will not go all the way to the ledge so you still have a respitem

It definitely feels different if you played a lot of DkS1. But you'll get used to it.

It may be too early to say but it's probably my favorite of the souls games. The bosses aren't that great compared to previous souls games but the locations are fantastic.

* The start of the game is a bit slower, the mid/end is pretty amazing
* Feels like a hybrid of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls
* Difficulty feels about right IMO - and there are ways to make it harder for yourself if you want. Some elements are easier, some elements are harder. Typical dark souls 'once you figure it out, it's not that bad' - and many of the lessons learned in Dark Souls apply here.
* End game areas are pretty killer
* Initial impression was "Good, but not as good as Dark Souls", as I'm approaching the final areas my opinion is starting to shift to "I think I might like it more than Dark Souls"

In short - loving it.

Again, thanks for the feedback :)
This next month or so of waiting is gonna be a little sucky, but hopefully it'll enhance the experience ;)

I was thinking of how evil it would be to use a bunch of bonfire ascetics to level up and area way beyond your level and use that item that allows enemies to target invaders and just sit in a comfy spot and watch the mayhem.

Probably not worth it in the end but a fun thought.

Emmarell did this in DS1 with NG+7

Search for Perculiar Parish on YouTube :)

I think this is what people thought before it was uncovered that it was a glitch. I haven't used any tokens so that's not linked to my revivals. And there are definite instances where killing a boss didn't revive me.

I hope it's addressed soon.

Looking for some help with a soul vessel?

I've used two already, one in the mansion, and the other in the lockstone door in the area with the blacksmith you give the dull ember to.

I picked up the Dragons Chime by killing a certain NPC, and noticed it's faith requirement is 50!!! Anyway, I respecced earlier for a halberd and while it's decent want to go back to min dex and STR, and pump the points I wasted into dex into faith. At 41 faith just now so I should make 50 fine.

I heard there's 5 in a playthrough, where are the others? I have two boss souls, currently need the boss in the black gulch, and the boss in the iron fort or whatever it's called. Are there any soul vessels near here?

If not, does anyone have a spare one to share? I hope I don't need to wait till end game to get another lol. Cheers GAF.

Nevermind, the wee guy at the shrine in Majula gave me one for speaking to him - Apparently happens once
9
NPCs have moved in.

I remembered your post because I was playing the game and thought 'I hope this guy does a complete 180 when he sinks his teeth in it' :p

At the time I was dropping some very positive impressions in this thread and was hoping I made the right judgement call, because I was loving the game, in contrast to those stream impressions... Luckily people started to see the light when they got their hands on it.

I have some issues with DkS II, but it's a fantastic Souls game overall.

Oh FROM your breaking my heart

Went visit blacksmith see what soul weapons can get. The image of Spider Fang made me pop a boner as thought it be Queelag Fury Sword 2.0. Until read the description I died a bit inside why do all these boss weapons suckkkk

First goddamn boss and I'm already having trouble.

Any way to get the bonfire item thingie this early in the game, to respawn the enemies?

Hey guys. I've been keeping myself as spoiler free as possible, 'cause I'm not buying this until the PC release.
Just wondering if you could give me a quick idea about how you all feel about the game?
Like, are you enjoying it? What's the difficulty like compared to the last one? Anything in particular that really stands out?

Thanks :)

It's so good. Dark souls as much as I loved it felt a bit half done in a lot of areas and stuff where as this one it seems a lot more thoroughly baked. Plus it's just massive. Bosses feel a bit more challenging and are great from a set piece perspective but are maybe a little less interesting from a conceptual standpoint? I've heard they change a lot in NG+ so that's really cool too.

Nearly all the boss soul weapons are lackluster this time around anyways.
They were lackluster in Dark Souls 1 too. In fact they were way worse. Only the Chaos Blade was any good, and not that much better than a maxed out uchi or iaito (which could be buffed). At least Demon's Souls had the Northern Regalia, Blueblood Sword, Insanity Catalyst, Meat Cleaver, and kick-ass spells.

Do you use a bow? The bow you can make from the soul (boss in Heide's) is very good. I plan to get it in my second run asap. STR 20 DEX 18 required though.
How does it compare to the Hunter's blackbow? I've been maining that at +10 for a while now and it's served me very well at 16 str and 40 dex. Any reason to use that boss soul bow instead?

What was the point of killing that [mid-late game spoiler]
big queen bug spewing gas out at the top of the Gutter
? It just seems like a dead end up there, and you have to go through a mist wall and everything.
I'd like to know too. I left it alone myself.

I think it's a lot more interesting to just find him and see what he is, he's the coolest NPC in my opinion, good voice acting too.
He's my favourite NPC of all the Souls games, I think. Just so cool and badass.

Did anyone else rage balls in the room just before (late game spoiler)
Velstadt
? I died twice due to stupidity (the fight is actually really easy by DkS standards), but I kept trying to cheese my way through the room and kept dying. It's really frustrating...
Haha, I didn't find the
bell
right away, and kept looking on the sides for it, and was getting so annoyed at the respawning enemies. Once I found it I was all "oooooh.... derp". xD

I don't really understand the layout of
The Lost Bastille
[...]Can anyone tell me how to get the loot that's on top of the wall at the top of the stairs near the bonfire by ?
This one drove me crazy, but I finally found it. Here's how to get it:
Start from the bonfire near Straid (or any other if you haven't unpetrified him, but he's our frame of reference). Now go down until you see that place with all the big jars and the exploding guys. There's a hidden wall in there (IIRC it's near the cage that surrounds that elevator) which leads to a balcony outside. Then outside there's a platform you can jump to, which has some loot (I forgot what). Then after that, you need to walk along a very narrow ledge by the rampart, until you reach the item in question.
The item is a
shield, by the way. I never used it, sadly. xD But it was driving me crazy so I had to get it.

So in the
Scorpioness
fight I assume you need to get her to knock down the tree to get the item and that if you beat her you can never get the item. Is this true? What's the item?

It kind of feels like it was made by a different developer, tbh. There's about 20% of the content in here that lives up to the quality of Dark Souls 1. The rest is muddy straight lines and Dragon Rider.

lol if this was possible I'd love to watch it

Like just make Belfry Luna NG++++++ and stand safely at the bottom.

So i just killed the
Half scorpion dude and his boy that looks like a lion
. Did I just fuck something up?

Curious about that lion. He looks different from his darker brethren. Unlike the
scorpion bro
he attacked me on sight so I don't feel bad about killing him.

I did a lot of small soapstone co-op in that area and nearly everyone I helped instigated against the
man-scorpion
. And as an NPC he was blurred out to me so I couldn't do anything to help.

I looked up that bow... It has S dex scaling... With 40 dex I think it may be a better option than the dragonrider bow (only has D dex scaling) I'll have to check it out as well, since I'm all dex too.

btw, how awesome is the voice acting for the blood covenant guy? So eerie and creepy, this is one of my favorite VO's in the series now.

Game is every bit as engaging as its predecessors, IMO.

So far I feel the difficulty is amped up quite a bit, especially in the form of regular enemy mobs. There's more of them, they're smarter, and they hit harder. There's a few pushover early-game bosses but they stop messing around pretty early on.

Where do you get the grym hammer? Wanting to face it off against the great club for my character. Thanks

Drops off Gyrm warriors.

I dunno about the other two, but this is certainly true, they tend to come in packs. For DS I don't really think this is great encounter design either, DS has always excelled at one on one combat and mobs are just... the worst. There is hardly any crowd control so it's somewhat unfair.

Question for the Mejula sewer - mid-game spoiler -

After you gain access to the Mejula sewer via the ladder, there is a concrete slab door towards the upper area of the Mejula sewer. How do you open this door? Is there a key? If so, which one and where is it?

Thanks!

You need the Forgotten Key, obtained by killing two giants in the Black Gulch. You have to drop down some ledges near the worms that pop out of the walls there.

Guys, I just reached Dr
angleic Castle. I still have 3/4 old souls, its the last one there? because the girl from Majula says that Im not ready, so maybe Im not in the good way?

Also, if someone can tell me how far Im into the game... I have the feeling that Im near the end but I dont want to lol

I was only half paying attention and traveled to the same area I was at. Why the fuck does the game let me do this. What a pointless loading screen.

Where are all the light/medium armor choices? I'm rolling with a heavy right now, but I'm pretty far
Drangleic Castle
and barely have any armor that would work for a mage. I'm trying to plan ahead for my next playthrough and have no idea what I would wear. Am I missing something or did DS1 have much more in the way of light armor?

Also...not sure what happened, but the quick travel screen now shows me all the areas I haven't visited yet. I can't select them, but I can see not only the location, but how many bonfires are there. Weird.
