Two questions about unreachable items.

1) In Lost Bastille, after you go up the stairs outside of the wall that explodes, if you look up and to the left, there is an item on a corpse REALLY high up. How do you get to that?
I'll try to explain it as best as I can. Go to the bonfire of sinners rise, then go over the bridge to the lost bastille. There go down the stair once, in the room you stand now there should be a fake wall (press x). after that again, a fake wall. After that you'll be outside, you have to make a jump where there is/was an item. Then from there follow the ledge. Hope this helps :)

I got caught up in the hype and got this game a few days ago and am now being confronted with the fact that I suck suck suck at Dark Souls.

Any general tips & tricks or advice for an unskilled Dark Souls newbie?

I'm still having a good time dying though!

So gaf, what's the general consensus on DS2's difficulty compared to DS1?

For me personally I'm having a much harder time with 2. I ran through the first game twice without too much trouble other than the O&S fight. In the sequel I'm just destroyed by trash mobs. The halved health and single estus are just brutal for a player like myself.

I was only half paying attention and traveled to the same area I was at. Why the fuck does the game let me do this. What a pointless loading screen.

Dark Souls don't care. At least you didn't go get a drink of water while teleporting to Sinner's Rise. Goodbye, 15k souls!

These are Dark Souls 1 tips but some of them still carry on to Dark Souls 2

Take your time, be patient, mind your surroundings. Dark Souls' main difficulty stems from punishing a lack of these things.

What's giving you trouble so far? Specific tips are easier to give. :)

Hold your shield up most of the time. Try to lure enemies into 1v1s if you can. Target bosses and circle around them until they attack, then roll to dodge it and retaliate. Keep your equip burden under 50%.

I think my biggest tip for dark souls is don't rush in, ever. Take the time to size up every room if you get the chance, and if at all possible, bait and fight only one enemy at a time. It's incredibly easy to get overwhelmed and gangbanged by just the weakest of enemies if they're in a group.

Sucking has never stopped me from succeeding in Dark Souls.

How do you even get him to talk to you?
Buy the ring from Shalquior that enables voice chat. Equip it and talk to him.

Damn,
this Smelter Demon. Hell, the whole damned Iron Keep is a bitch. And what's with the Alonne Knights disappearing
?

I once left it in the bonfire menu after the
ruin sentinels
thinking that'd be safe. I'd just done my first run into the
belltower
and been invaded but my souls were at the bottom for an easy collect. I was pissed, wanted a smoke, and just stayed in that stupid menu. Came back to find I'd just been killed. No idea what happened, I assume it's the one and only time I've been invaded in 30+ hours

DS2 is harder at the beginning.
The vitality penalty when hollow, less eastus flasks, decreasing respawn (that pushes you further instead of farming to level up) set the bar higher.
But if you already played DS, you easily know how to overcome the first difficulties and then proceed smoothly.

The lady near Majula that is petrified in front of a switch. You need a fragrant branch to rescue her. She then moves to Majula as the pyro trainer

Oh yeah, forgot about her. She hasn't moved to Majula for me, she moves right outside of the place you find her.

Hey guys. I've been keeping myself as spoiler free as possible, 'cause I'm not buying this until the PC release.
Just wondering if you could give me a quick idea about how you all feel about the game?
Like, are you enjoying it? What's the difficulty like compared to the last one? Anything in particular that really stands out?

Thanks :)

Enjoying the game a lot almost done. It's harder at first than Dark Souls, but that's due to a few design choices that don't really bother me at all. Once you get "established" the game gets easier and to a point very easy.

I think Demon's Souls is still my favorite. I miss the overall connectivity of the world of Dark Souls though.

I find it a lot easier. Died maybe 5-6 times in about 15 hours. I actually think the challenge level is perfect as I only die when I get careless or make mistakes. No deaths have felt cheap for me yet and only the bosses have been disappointingly easy. I'm always dreading stepping through that mist and then they're dead in 2 minutes.
And oh yeah, I've never been invaded. What's up with that?

Those things in No Man's Wharf. Those terrible, screechy, nightmare-inducing things. Just ran out of torches too. First time in the game I've felt that familiar Dark Souls dread.
I agree. use a
lockstone
in the center courtyard, but dont avoid them for too long...often the worst enemies provide the best rewards!
How would I farm for smooth and silky stones?

Join the
Rat
covenant, rank one after ten
tails
(i think) is 10 smooth and silky.

It feels damn good to be in the
Rat King
Covenant. Wish I did it sooner because at SL 130, it takes a bit to get someone. If any other members are having a hard time in the
Grave of Saints
, I suggest waiting till the second covenant area at the
Doors of Pharros. Traps are more brutal and it's much easier to get kills. Lots of hiding places and choke points.

I'm about 20-5 right now. I actually walked away to make a drink and came back to rewards on the screen. Having too much fun.

I still think this is a huge waste of a
lockstone

Speak for yourself! ;p Of course being in
Rat
covenant has its privilege....I'll never worry about wasting a lockstone again. I think I have 10 kicking around in my inventory. I even tried putting a couple in to other players worlds for them, but you cant engage the stones nor drop them for friends :(

Isn't it kinda difficult to get there before the wharf though?

(weapon stuff)

Breaking
Santier's Spear
takes forever, but I think it's neat that it
gains a new moveset when you do
.

Thank you thank you thank you too manifest7 and dounreed32 don't know if your on gaf, but with the help of these guys I finally beat sinner after 20 failed attempts
