Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

I have no idea where to go next.

I just finished
talking with Nashandra at Drangleic Castle and killing the twin Dragonriders. After that I went up a ladder and circled by way around the castle, ending back up at the same bonfire but from a different hall. There's a locked door and a lever I can't pull so I'm unsure of what direction to head in.

ugh, I was stuck there too, summoned 4 people to help me show what to do, but either their coop time ran out or they jumped to their deaths.
as it seems, my game kinda glitched and the huge switch-golem didn't do anything when you kill all those enemy-statues. after that there's gonna be a platform coming down where that unmovable lever is.

Just finished the game and thought I would make an impressions post.

First this game consumed my life. I would work, come home, and play. When I went to bed with only a few hours until work I would lay there thinking about what do do on the next section.

I know most people are talking about the difficulty so I will weigh in on that briefly. I imagine the first souls game you play will always feel like it is the hardest. That being said I found this game to be overall easier than Dark Souls. There were a couple of bosses that really put a number on me, and others that I just breezed through. If I remember correctly, every boss in Dark souls worked me over a few times before I figured them out. Like I said this probably has more to do with the hours I spent mastering Dark Souls than anything else.

That being said, I thought the bosses were all far more interesting. So much of the storytelling in this game is wrapped up in the boss fights. The sadness, despair, wrath of these larger than life antagonists are told through the way they move, how they look, and what you have to do to beat them. I was constantly looking forward to the next boss, and with so many of them I never had to wait too long.

What I didn't like was the lack of invasions. Sure in very specific optional pvp areas you would be invaded like crazy, but with the sameness of the levels, every enemy exactly where it was before, invasions added a sense of randomness and unpredictability that I missed. I know for most people invasions were annoying, You get so far into a level, then, bam, some guy comes out and kills you right before you could regain your lost souls. I didn't think I would miss them, but making the same run to the boss, enemies have all stopped spawning, it was boring. A crazy killer popping up would at least make my heart race again.

Also, just jumping into new game + and already I can tell that this is not the same thing but harder, they really front loaded the idea that things will be different on your second playthrough.

Here's my character. The customisation is glorious in this game. I feel that the new effects of stats and enchantments greatly support build variations. I want to try a DEX/FTH build to maximize bleed damage, with either dual falchions or claws. Not sure if it's worth infusing the weapons with extra bleed damage or sticking with high dex scaling but it'll be fun to test.

The claws moveset is awesome, the follow up R2 is an auto jump attack that can catch people rolling when you're not locked on. The dual wield L2 is a triple swing much like the halberd.

Late-ish game question:
I'm on the whole giant memories part of the game. How am I meant to clear this stuff out in such limited time? Should I be doing more damage to stuff, or do I need to run past enemies?

I had some fun in Iron Keep, The Gutter and Black Gulch today.

Iron Keep is my favorite area so far. Some of the traps were fiendish. Loved it. The Smelter Demon was a nice challenge.
I liked how his fire aurora stopped me from just endlessly circle strafing him up close. If not for that I think the fight would
have played out fairly similar to the Dragonrider.
The Old Iron God
was pretty fun too. I wish they threw some Dragon God-esque punches into his attack list. That would have made my night.
I think it took me three attempts. Once I knew his patterns, it was a pretty easy fight.

The Rotten
in Black Gulch was pretty fun too. The design reminded me of Leechmonger, but instead of leeches, humans/hollows.
The run from the bonfire to the fog gate was great. There was lots of messaging down encouraging to charge straight ahead so I thought fuck it,
why not? I can't believe I made it through on my first attempt.

I had a bizarre moment a bit ago where I got summoned for co-op but could see other people's summoning signs at the boss door. I got kind of excited about the madness I could potentially unleash, but tagging one just got me a "Disconnected from multiplayer session" message.

I wanted to get a proper phantom army goin'. Alas, 'twas not to be.

Okay I got the (late game spoilers)
King's Key. Where to know? I used the bonfire to go back to the castle, opened a Kings door and killed two guys inside, but there doesnt seem to be anything else there. Also opened the door in Forest of Lost Giants but there wasnt anything useful there...? help and then praise the sun!

So, I'm reading on reddit that the Soul Memory limit appears to be removed in NG+, according to some streamer (Peeve Peeverson) who tested and was able to invade people with millions of souls less than in soul memory.
It might be old (posted one day ago), but it was new to me and hopefully some more people.

I was afraid of going into NG+ without being able to summon as much as before, thanks for clearing this up.

It was a pain, I looked up online how to do it and
I never even had a clue that I had to lure the enemies to the statue before killing them.

So I got this game today and played it for around 5 hours. Is it just me or is this game a lot harder than Dark Souls ? Or am I not supposed to be in the forest of the fallen giants ?

Why are bell tower summons taking so long for me? Haven't had this happen to me. A shame since I wanted to upgrade my claymore fully.

kill enemies near the doors for their souls to be asborbed, similar to how you got into the castle originally

loool, I had no idea that's how I got in there originally actually. I just kept killing enemies on the sides, and was like "wtf, they never stop coming!" I guess I just got lucky and killed them close to those statues. :x

You are going the right way. I find that this game likes throwing a lot more enemies at you than the first two. They love ambushes apparently.

Go to
the Shaded Woods. The final door should be there. Eventually you will reach the ancient dragon. Talk to him for an item.

Finally got my Uchigatana :D
Went right ahead and upgraded it to +10.

How is infusing in this game? Is it worth it if I'm going for a Dex focused build?

Also,
Iron Keep
is one of the first impressive looking locations in this game

You're on the right track, just approach enemies with caution and try to pull them one at a time. Also body check any corpses laying around.
I find the enemies are slower to react at first so you can usually stunlock them to death before they even start attacking.

Iron Keep

That lava looks so much better than the lave in Lost Izalith.

Why did you all tell me the
chariot
boss wasn't difficult! :(

another 10K souls down the drain...

I don't understand how I can deal with the boss when there are
infinite skeletons that keep shooting me with bows and arrows

There are
two mages summoning said skeletons ;)

If you kill the skeletons you can probably see a purple light, which is a necro reviving them. There's 2 of those, and when they die the skeletons stay dead.

Trying to sunbro and get some sunlight medals....but my summoners keep dying. Sad day.

EDIT: As I write that I get summoned by a guy who proceeds to walk directly into the flame at the start of
Iron Keep
.

Siiiiiigh.

I hope my console is an undead... cause i just spilled half a bottle of coke over my PS3 T.T, i hate myself...

Best course of action guys???

How does the Drangleic Sword compare to other greatswords? It's the first one I've used, and it's been pretty great so far. It was the key to taking down the (boss)
Rotten
when other weapons didn't seem to work.

ok i think this is kind of fucked
I drop down a ledge in Dragon Aerie and get an item and there is no way back up
lol, I killed myself.

If you talked to Emerald at the cliff she gives you an item
Aged feather
that teleports you to the bonfire, it has unlimited uses.

I'm currently doing a no-sheild dex playthrough...

It is much harder so far :(

Me too, about 28 hours in and only at the iron keep still. It's harder at first while you get used to it, then once you get used to it, it's easier/less frustrating than using a shield since you don't have to worry about stagger mechanics, then you reach a boss that can kill you with one mistake and it seems impossible, then you summon and beat the boss easily even though it slightly feels like cheating.

At least that's how my playthrough has gone so far. It really trains you up to be kick ass at pvp.
