Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Some of the design decisions drive me crazy especially when it comes to enemy placement. I feel like this game has more soul crushing points then the previous two. Drives me crazy and NG+ is gonna be a pain. -.-

Yea I figured that out but is there any way to combat it?

Get a weapon with a wide swing arc. Keep your shield up. And try to carefully watch the fog for movement. The only way to really get through that part if you want to fully explore it would be to take it slow.

With that said - there is one trick...

If you hit the trees with faces, it will draw the enemies to those locations allowing you an opportunity to bring the to you rather than them hitting you at shitty times.

Random question, without spoiling anything, do you at some point fight the guys with the really cool masks from the original DS2 announcement trailer back in 2012? Because I really want that mask as my armor regardless of how shitty it may be.
Not that I've seen, which is one of my biggest disappointments, if not the biggest, from the pre-release hype. Well, maybe they were
replaced by astronauts
and I'm only half joking with that spoiler.

Question about thing I found in T

G
utter
:
I found this giant ant-looking creature in a cave. It was just shooting steam out of its body. I decided to hack away at it and eventually killed it. It was non-hostile. What the heck is it?

[very late game spoilers] What the fuck is with the M

eigh
? I get
burnt to death by those fiery catapult projectile long before I can even get one hit on that giant. :S Am I missing a trick? They hint at a time limit, too, which annoys me.
ok i think this is kind of fucked
I drop down a ledge in Dragon Aerie and get an item and there is no way back up
lol, I killed myself.
You know, the Herald does give you that
feather
... :P

What was it?
A hero soul.
From be trollin'.

That part's bullshit, I had to look it up online eventually.
talk to the woman selling miracles right after the dragon rider boss in heides tower, once you've exhausted her dialog she'll move to the passage and help you move the contraption
I have no idea how you're supposed to figure that out on your own, or why you'd go back there in the first place since you don't get an item to unlock it and as far as I know it's not even hinted in any dialogue
I figured it out on my own because I like to revisit areas after a while to see if anything new popped. And that contraption was something I noticed being locked early on, so...

Smelter Demon
caused me the most deaths I've experienced so far in this game to a single boss. Bad enough that all the enemies disappeared. I felt bad summoning people after a bit and finally beat it by myself. The mechanics of the fight weren't that bad to figure out, but the
third phase where the sword is pure fire damage
ruined so many attempts. One hit and I was stunlocked into oblivion.

It's dead now though. Onward to more adventure!

What's been a 'soul crushing' point for you? haven't run into anything that bad yet.

Yes but their mask was changed, you find them at
Earthen Peak

.

I just dashed past the first two smaller things and fought the large thing. Though it gave me an option to examine another thing after and I'm wondering if I missed something there as my time did in fact run up as I hit X.

Lost sinner
down. He wasn't really that hard. I just blocked and circled to his right and dodged his his big power attack. Have no idea were to go next. The emerald herald said something about a forest so I'm guessing that's the area were the guy with the mgs was but I thought a statue was blocking the way?

Also question for any mages. The spells get better right? The ones I have now are kind of elementary. The only one I have that's interesting is
soul spear barrage
but it did no damage against the boss in
No-Mans wharf
so I stopped using it.

Edit: This
ring of life proection
is just too good. Makes the game so much easier.

You should have gotten a thing that will help you with the first problem you mention.

How were you not
burnt to a crisp, though? Do the fireballs stop spamming on you if you run far enough on the bridge?

Finally beat
Darklurker
. Ended up respeccing as a pyro and it suddenly went from hardest boss in the game to four-hit cakewalk. I might try to grab the
Lucatiel
and
Benhart
trophies and then onwards to NG+.

Ha! I brought Lucatiel into the Flexile Sentry fight with me, and all she did was shield up in a corner while it hammered on her and I stood across the room and spammed it with various soul arrows.

He did not stand a chance at all.

Now that's team work. Chump.

Something that has been confusing me on the menus, when it has Strength(or whatever) labeled as C, but other weapons make it blue/red. Why do some weapons have a blue C or a red C compared to my current Heide Knight Sword? Does that just mean a very marginal change considering it's the same letter grade?

I'm not sure. I think they only hit in two spots. I waited for it to hit near me and off I went. I took the advice of a message.

Well, nevermind. A message said
"dashing through!"
and so that's what I did.
The fire indeed does stop at the area near the fog. After that he was cake. Firestorm utterly annihilates it. :)

LOL, as I was typing this
that asshole Navlaan invaded me on my way back. Took me by surprise haha. He invades friggin' everywhere. Regretting having freed him now... xD

Do you mean the
branch thing
? I figured I needed to find another switch or get a key.

That's right, go see the obstacle now.

Exactly what I did and exactly what happened to me after. I got killed because I wasn't paying attention when I was done.

Asides from two boss encounters, NG+ is easier and much more forgiving due to how powerful your character is. I wouldn't worry about it.

Just got to the (mid/late game location?)
foggy forest with the invisible ghosts.
Ended up standing still at the start for a few minutes, and turned around with a "Nope!" shortly after, before steeling my nerve and heading in. Silent Hill and DaS' Tomb of Giants are the only other games that have elicited that reaction out of me. Such a well done little area, especially after the incredibly lame and linear rest of the
Shaded Woods
.

I've got some good news for you - you're not even close to the end of the game.

Any strategy suggestions for
freya

I haven't really tried it for myself but just getting summoned in to help people I am getting owned really quickly

A question:

What did the pharros lockstone do in the Iron Keep and Earthen Peak do? It made a little puddle of water next to them...and that's it.

Class?

I'm a melee character. The goal is to stick to the middle of her abdomen as much as possible. Kill as many of the little spiders as you can without letting one of her heads get a lock on you. Once most of the little spiders are dead you can work on her. The goal is to keep circling her at point blank range. Bait out an attack and wreck the other head. Then bait out an attack there and bash the other head. It's probably even just as effective for range/mage classes to use a similar strategy. Just point blank blasts to the face.

That water heals you. Bathe yourself in it as part of a resistance package to do stuff you normally can't. Like walk on the hardened lava.

Try to agitate one head by giving it a good whack, then run over to the other undefended head to do some real damage. Also, when it spends the better half of a minute rearing up, its telegraphing it's beam of death attack.

So only two optional bosses left (the hardest ones):
The King and Ancient Dragon
and wondering if it's even worth fighting them at this point, I keep dying with them and I kinda just want to go over and explore new game+.

Vendrick is pretty easy. Grab the biggest shield you can find, always circle strafe him, block the few of his attacks that can hit you from behind and then hit him once or twice with a good weapon.

So which boss is this game's O&S-style chokepoint?

Two different ones I think.

1. Ruin Sentinels. Can be encountered very early in the game. You first have to fight one of them on a small elevated platform, and then two of them at the same time in a more open area. They wield long spears with great reach and can stun lock you easily. One of the latter two is very aggressive and will quickly chase you down. Long reach, combo attacks, etc... Two of them also have shields which can be a problem.

2. Smelter Demon. Extremely high defense and all of his attacks are considered to be pure-fire attacks when he gets to 50%, so blocking with the vast majority of shields is useless. Has a delay on a few of his attacks that make rolling tricky to time. Plenty of multi hit combos you have to precisely roll through, since blocking won't prevent much damage. Now this boss is actually skippable, but it's ill-advised since you'll miss the bonfire that unlocks after killing him.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck you The
ROTTEN! Oh man I spent like 45 minutes being super careful, avoiding being poisoned, lighting sconces trying to avoid ambushes, and I summon some people for this boss seeing how tough he was, and I get myself killed when he has 1/10 health left and now I get to do it ALLLLLL again! Is there a bonfire I missed in that second area with all the poison statues?

Yes,
keep to the right. Look for a small path.

Did co-op recon on the
Spider
before attempting it alone...Jesus. This will not be fun. How many bonfires are in that area? The last one I had was the one immediately after the
undead clerics
bossfight. That's a loooot of catching up to do when I inevitably die dozens of times.

Where did you find the second one?

Shaded Woods
if I recall.

Freja is cake, just stand mid-range to bait the laser, then run around behind it (on its right side) and hack away while its pew-pewing. Then back up and repeat.

Aw, that sucks. Well maybe-

Yes but their mask was changed, you find them at

-what. Ugh that mask sucks and looks terrible compared to the reveal. Dammit. Fuck that's disappointing.

i have trouble getting to that corpse with loot on a mushroom in Huntsman's Copse. i drop a little down from the bridge area with a dead end. then it looks like you have to jump over, but my char will always end up in the pit with that knight down there and chest (the rapier). anyone know how to get it?

can anybody help with the above, please?

Sounds good. I'm waiting for the PC version. Wasn't hyped at first, but now I'm feeling the Dark Souls itch! DS1 is probably my Game of the Generation.
