Hey guys. I've been keeping myself as spoiler free as possible, 'cause I'm not buying this until the PC release.
Just wondering if you could give me a quick idea about how you all feel about the game?
Like, are you enjoying it? What's the difficulty like compared to the last one? Anything in particular that really stands out?

Thanks :)

It's fun. Easy in spots but also annoyingly hard in other spots. The UI and certain other mechanics have been refined and more accessible.

Survived two summonings in Doors of Pharros, honestly the best feeling ever. One guy walked into his own axe trap while trying to snipe me and the other I one shotted with a sunlight spear + binoculars combo.

Fuck that place, cheapest shit ever. Never seen anyone who isn't up on a ledge pelting you with arrows while you try to deal with the mastodon and rat.

Had one guy come down and attack me with a large club while I was fighting the two mastodons. Killing them all one by one was one of my prouder Souls moments.

I was thinking of how evil it would be to use a bunch of bonfire ascetics to level up and area way beyond your level and use that item that allows enemies to target invaders and just sit in a comfy spot and watch the mayhem.

Probably not worth it in the end but a fun thought.

The falchion does a little more damage, and also has the advantage of building up bleed (which doesn't seem to do a lot in DS2, but you take every advantage you can get in these games), so I'd recommend that.

By the way, a weird mix that worked well for me was dual wielding a mace and a falchion. The mace's strike damage helps you power through heavily armored enemies that are often resistant to slash damage, and it also has a pretty good moveset with a really strong dual wield heavy attack.

Interesting, thanks for the tip, I may have to try that. So for power stance falchions, do I have to have my strength up to 13?? I have my dex at 20 so that shouldn't be a problem. Is the power stance of the falchions pretty effective (this playthrough im focusing on no shield)??

:lol

No wonder illusory walls weren't working for me, I've been trying to hit the bastards

Battered
the Sentinels
solo, just gotta have a decent stamina level, choose your moments to attack, and keep them both in line of sight

Brilliant game, worthy successor to Dark Souls

Struggling to resist the temptation to make my guy magic-capable, put a few points in Attunement and Intelligence to the detriment of my strength and HP

The
archers
before the fog door destroyed me, took my eye off the ball and lost 7000 souls :(

Okay how do i get to the second part of belfry luna? After i beat the gargoyles i got a key that i think opens a doors in the bastille except i have zero idea where that door. I know it must be there somewhere a little help pls.

Power stance falchions: 14 STR and 20 DEX
Power stance mace+falchion: 18 STR and 20 DEX

Dual falchions are pretty sweet, the power stance light attack leaves no opening in your offense, and the power stance heavy is good for oneshotting lesser foes. If you're on point, you could even go back to normal stance and parry with your left falchion. It's how I played my first few hours before I swapped out my first falchion with a mace, but that might be just preference.

It's my favorite Souls game by a wide margin and Dark Souls was one of my top 2 games of all time. Shit I think it's been my absolute favorite for a while now (sorry RE4). It's just incredibly massive and the areas are fantastic. Gorgeous, gorgeous vistas in there. As for difficulty, I'd say that it's mostly harder than the previous game while exploring, but the bosses are easier than DkS.

It's good. I think it's the worst of the three Souls games, but it still has plenty of the unique things that makes the series worth playing.

I think the enemy layouts and a pretty decent number of areas in the game are hugely disappointing. Most of the bosses aren't much to write home about either.

Still, it can be a lot of fun. There are a lot of good levels that make up for the less inspired stuff.

Still looking forward to it likes, just hoping it lives up to the feeling of my first time playing through Demons.

Did someone ship you the super secret version with good textures or something?

Is the faith boosting ring worth 25k souls? can you find it somewhere instead? I don't use miracles, just lightning weapons.

It may be too early to say but it's probably my favorite of the souls games. The bosses aren't that great compared to previous souls games but the locations are fantastic.

I'm also at the point where I can safely say this is my favorite Souls game and the best of the three IMO. Yeah it's got some flaws but on the whole they knocked it out of the park. Well worth the year long wait from the reveal.

So, what is up with this game's way of basically putting a restriction on how many times you can turn human? In the last two installments, you could help others and then turn human. Now you can't. It seems silly. I know there are some alternate ways later in the game. I don't know how much later and how viable they are, but this seems kind of silly.

So how many theme helmets are there in this?

I know of at least these 3
Sandor Clegane
Predator
Ghost BC's singer mask

I don't like the time limit in the M
emories
of G
iants
... I can't get to the end of
Vammar
's one for example before I'm sent back :<
I hope the enemies also die out after a bunch of time killing them...can anyone confirm if they do?

Art design> A couple flawed textures. It's not like DeS and DkS didn't have shitty looking stuff.

I never said the art direction was bad, but... calling those textures gorgeous is stretching the definition of the word pretty far. I do like a number of the environments but in places like
shaded ruins
the texture work was really detracting from the experience for me. It should never be so bad that I stop running around and hitting things for a minute just to look around me and comment, "Wow, this looks like a PS2 game."

Point out where I said that.

Late game help needed:

Got the King Ring and not sure what to do with it. Opened the door in the forest of the giants but there's nothing there except a dead giant I can't really interact with.

That is what my friend said years ago when I was playing Demon's Souls, lol.

* The start of the game is a bit slower, the mid/end is pretty amazing
* Feels like a hybrid of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls
* Difficulty feels about right IMO - and there are ways to make it harder for yourself if you want. Some elements are easier, some elements are harder. Typical dark souls 'once you figure it out, it's not that bad' - and many of the lessons learned in Dark Souls apply here.
* End game areas are pretty killer
* Initial impression was "Good, but not as good as Dark Souls", as I'm approaching the final areas my opinion is starting to shift to "I think I might like it more than Dark Souls"

In short - loving it.

to interact with them you have to first get the ashen mist heart from the ancient dragon.

Oh wow gaf i used
Bonfire Ascetic on the following bosses Old iron king & The rotten and once i beat them i got a shitload of souls and new boss souls which i have not seen before :D

I really wish there was an answer as to whether the covenant rank progress (not the ranks themselves) reset in NG+. I'm beyond ready to start, but I'm also at 5 kills in the Bell Keepers and it's a long time just sitting around between summons to invade.

Maybe I'll be the test subject if my patience wears out.

There's a glitch apparently which may revive you after helping someone beat a boss. I've had it happen to me a few times already.

I believe the door you want to go to is in the Shaded Woods, at the fork in the road bonfire. There's also another door at Drangleic Castle, but you'll want to go ahead and go through the Woods door first to get the ball rolling on some things you'll likely want before that door.

Looking for some help with a soul vessel?

I've used two already, one in the mansion, and the other in the lockstone door in the area with the blacksmith you give the dull ember to.

I picked up the Dragons Chime by killing a certain NPC, and noticed it's faith requirement is 50!!! Anyway, I respecced earlier for a halberd and while it's decent want to go back to min dex and STR, and pump the points I wasted into dex into faith. At 41 faith just now so I should make 50 fine.

I heard there's 5 in a playthrough, where are the others? I have two boss souls, currently need the boss in the black gulch, and the boss in the iron fort or whatever it's called. Are there any soul vessels near here?

If not, does anyone have a spare one to share? I hope I don't need to wait till end game to get another lol. Cheers GAF.

Yo, I've got the ability to pass through the King's doors now or whatever you'd call them.
I've went through the ones in Forest of the Fallen Giants and Drangleic Castle. Killed the awesome Throne Guards as well.
Can anyone tell me the location of other doors because I can't remember any.

Undead Crypt end question -
is there a good reason to kill the Old King hanging out at the end of that area?
That whole place was jawdropping for me. From Software truly is the king of dark fantasy.

Question for the Mejula sewer - mid-game spoiler -

After you gain access to the Mejula sewer via the ladder, there is a concrete slab door towards the upper area of the Mejula sewer. How do you open this door? Is there a key? If so, which one and where is it?

Thanks!

Wait, you were pretty down on the game pre release right? I remember a post of yours where you were expecting a complete disappointment, as there was negativity when the first streams hit. Glad to see you're enjoying it :)

i have trouble getting to that corpse with loot on a mushroom in Huntsman's Copse. i drop a little down from the bridge area with a dead end. then it looks like you have to jump over, but my char will always end up in the pit with that knight down there and chest (the rapier). anyone know how to get it?

Awesome, big help. So many big decisions to make!! This game is so addicting, it is not good for my life right now.

Shaded Woods is the door you're looking for next. As for Vendrick, you'll get his armor and soul in another location if you kill him.
