DirectX 12 GDC 2014 presentation: Low-Level Access, DX11 GPUs, Holiday 2015

I sometimes wonder if he was a gaffer that got banned. getting banned from gaf seems to set some people off on a personal quest to destroy it.

My guess for Direct X 12 is that it'll have full Mantle Integration and that the Cloud can render Ray Tracing as I read that the Brigade API that was announced just last week can render real time ray tracing through cloud processing and considering Ray Tracing was something Phil Spencer mentioned, maybe DX12 is that secret sauce everyone has been talking about for XB1 and DX12 can perform these tasks.

But knowing Microsoft and their laziness, it'll probably just be Mantle integration.
 
I don't even know what he was teasing and I already mentioned that. It was stupid to post that in the first place because now I doubt he was talking about this event.

Has this person been right in the past?
Did he just randomly send you a PM to say "MINDS WILL BE BLOWN" or did this come up during a conversation?

I thought the PS4 GPU was already Mantle compliant.
 
Xboxes unite and become a hivemind to collectively render whatever needs to be rendered. They transform. They become the cloud. Therefore they become... Xbox One.

Don't kill me.

It's highly unlikely to me that Dx12 will actually improve performance on Xb1, as the coding is already pretty low level (hopefully). If it's like mantle and redistributes job to make CPU more efficient it would be great if it would be available for current gen specs.

But what I am actually hoping for together with this is some kind of new XNA studio experience for indies to easily make Xbox games again. That would be godsend.
 
We know MisterX is mentally challenged? why bring him up? I'm relatively pro Xbox and I think something is seriously wrong with that dude. Don't let MisterX be the thing that derails the thread.
 
That doesn't necessarily mean anything. It could just be DX12 apis based on work done for xbox one.

Well, Qualcomm and Intel are showing up to this, so I imagine it's a rather scalable API.

Turn10 is also there and I imagine they're not making PC games now.
 
You guys make fun of misterx, but his minions trolling other video game forums and blogs is a real problem. Thankfully they seem to be kept out of GAF.

I agree with most people here that DirectX 12 will try to counter mantle on PC and add Windows phone/tablet support, not activate secret stacked hardware or whatever silliness.
 
I am thinking the different platforms listed suggests an emphasis on portability.

Seems kinda weird with BUILD right around the corner though, so I guess we'll see

xna appears to be dead a long time ago. However you can write c++ and .net apps today that target DirectX on windows 8, I'd put any money you like on that being unveiled as the xbox home developer model at the //build conference in April: xbox retail console plus free edition of visual studio plus presumably an xbox sdk to expose kinect etc. = home dev nirvana

note this is all speculation based on public information, I don't have an inside line on it.
 
Why would it be? Sony will have their own low level API for coding to the metal, they don't need Mantle.
It is because it's AMD and GCN. There's a difference between being capable of using and actually using the API. Technically, the PS4 could be DX11.1/12 compliant, but that doesn't mean it'll ever run Microsoft's API.

My response was a rip at DX12 being Mantle integration.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that last one. MS has been seriously pushing Unity for game dev on all of their platforms. I attended a seminar by them and it was all about Unity. I got invited to an other one that's going on in a few days and it's Unity again.
