You know what would make the Souls games even more awesome? A Souls Compendium. Some kind of ingame handbook that keeps track of all your statistics, like enemy description, how many times you killed then, how many times they killed you, what their item drops are etc. Sames goes with npc character, magic, weapons, environment and story description. It would flesh out the lore more.

I'm really a sucker for ingame handbooks that keep track of everything. Ni No Kuni did it the best. The Souls games need something similar IMO

This really sucks.

I'm in The Lost Bastille and I lay down a summon sign. I get a message saying "failed to create summon sign. Timed out to the server." From what I'm seeing online, apparently the cause is my save file is corrupt and I have to create a new save.

If that's the case and there's no patch in sight, I'm very disappointed with my purchase. 15 hours down the drain.

I had that problem in some places yet helped people just fine in the wharf

I'm having problems with both summoning and placing a sign in Lost Bastille too tho. Very annoying.

I'm not totally opposed to this. They could even slip in some fancy lore to explain why you have a magical book that records the souls of fallen enemies.

So, can somebody give me pointers to where I should go once I hit Majula? I'm slowly venturing in to the Forest, because I've been suggested to by two NPCs, but I keep chickening out to spend my souls.

I'm too scared to adventure alone

EDIT: I can't believe burning an Effigy and 'consuming' one does two different things.

The games have been evolving so who knows maybe they will add that on a later game. Afterall we got a death count now on DS2 and they could probably slide that in through either patch or new content to the game. From Software seems to be paying attention to the feedback from DS1 despite getting a bit of a backlash for actually following part of the feedback on DaS2 (People liked more the humanoid boss fights, no bed of chaos type of bosses, No Lost Izalith levels of blandness and while the framerate aint perfect it doesnt dips as much as Dark Souls 1 on the worse areas) It wouldnt be hard to add that in as you could add it to the same tab where the character stats are at.

Multiplayer is packed with people playing. It works okay most of the time, but I've had to quit the game and reboot to be able to summon or to be summoned. It is kind of frustrating sometimes.

But I'm really enjoying the game so far. Still in the beginning.

I did the quest line. You get a unique armor set as a reward (make sure to talk to him plenty AFTER you have done them all). You don't actually need to kill
any NPC's as you can either find the items he wants elsewhere or buy them from them. You also get to keep the items, he does NOT take them. So, there isn't any downside to doing the quest line as far as I can tell
Ok, i will try that. Thanks :)

apparently i missed the ladder guy in earthen peak (hes back in majula now), is the ladder necessary to get all the items in Earthen Peak?

Go through the Forest first.

What do you mean you're chickening out to spend your souls? You want to spend them ASAP.

I didn't know people asked for humanoid creatures. I've been playing for a week now and my fiance has been watching the whole time and she remarked how there was no awesome monsters anymore and that they were all too humanoid. She actually prefered the varied non-human designs. She also is sad there isn't enough boss intros and we both noticed there is no weapons from monster tails which is my only true disappointment.

Is it possible that being able to solo these bosses is simply bragging rights and that From has designed all of these encounters to be tackled with multiplayer, and that this series was never meant to be as difficult as some people made it out to be because tackling bosses in teams was always the intent? So much so that From even added NPC helpers for offline people to take down bosses? And that people specifically avoiding summons because they feel it "cheeses boss encounters" are actually the ones playing the game not as intended?

I mean even the opening cinematic of Demon's Souls, the very first game, shows phantom players coming to help against a huge boss.

Hmm.
Rune Sentinels. I think it's possible to kill the 2nd when he jumps up top before the 3rd joins the party as well. Or at least get his health down to a sliver. Hmm.

First tough boss so far, but I had to stop to go pick up my kids from school before I got too invested (died like 5 times) so let's see how time off and feeling fresh does for me. Probably won't tackle it again till tomorrow!

At Earthen Peak, he offers you to use the ladder for 2000 souls, and then you can go down to a ledge and pick up an item (unfortunately i cant remember what it is). Maybe you can drop down there if you have enough health and use the cat's ring (not sure what exactly it is called, but that ring that allows you to drop from higher distances and take less damage from falling). But if this works, i dont think you can get up, so you need to either warp to the bonfire or die.

:|

I somehow managed to miss
the rotten
's boss room door after i beat him, just like
scorpioness
.

there was bone dust just beyond the door. i played for 30 hours without this bone dust.

Should I go as far as I physically can? One NPC warned me about going too deep.

Well as in, every time I bank 1 level's worth, I'll go right back to the village! It interrupts the exploration a bit. At least on the first, you could spend them at the bonfires.

In Dark Souls and Demons, I at least tried each boss once before bringing in co-op. In fact, most of them I beat alone. However, this time, for some reason, I'm totally paranoid and I don't even attempt a boss without bringing in at least the NPC... sometimes 2 real players. Haha.

Anyone else always bring in a buddy?

all bosses solo for my first run, like in the other souls games. after that I'll go sunbro and help others with bosses.

I installed the patch, was excited to do some co-op

...

"Failed to create summon sign"
"Failed to create summon sign"
"Failed to create summon sign"

I got summoned to Iron Keep.
When I went in to the Smelter Demon room there was something on the ground, I though it was a lifegem (since that is what usually drops during summons). It was a Ring of Blades +1. Did I fuck up and steal from the host?

It's possible they didn't want it.

would that be the bonfire before rat authority or the first bonfire?

Not 100% sure on this one. I haven't played around yet with my rat covenant guy in Doors. If i had to guess based on the other area, more than likely Grym's respite will handle most of the enemies, with the possibility of some of the Gnomes on the top floor being affected by the second bonfire.

"Failed to create summon sign"
"Failed to create summon sign"
"Failed to create summon sign"

"Summoning failed. Summon sign disappeared" happened well over a dozen times for me, so I'm giving the game a break for now.

Oddly, I did get invaded, which almost never happens.

All bosses solo so far. But did do co op for
Last Giant, Pursuer, and Ruin Sentials
. I think I'll do more once I beat the game and go to ng+.

Dumb question- what item/ how do I summon offline?

And do I have to be human?

You mean to summon NPCs? You have to be human to summon NPCs or other players. You don't need an item to summon them, you just have to find their summon sign. It's a little glowing white square of writing.

If YOU want to get summoned, you don't need to be human. You just need to use the white soap stone or small white soap stone and wait for someone to see your summon sign in their world and summon you.

That's entirely possible - and probable, in my opinion. I've felt that way since Demon's Souls and the Maneaters. DSII seems to have even more co-op focused bosses in the form of
Ruin Sentinels, Belfry Gargoyles
, etc.

I don't really feel there's an "intended" and "unintended" way of playing the game, though. From seems to have designed the game to support any number of emergent gameplay elements. I don't think they'd ever design a boss that literally couldn't be beaten without co-op help.

Just killed the
Glass boss

well...that was pretty underwhelming, i thought he would summon peeps or do at least something exclusive with his shield? it was pretty much the exact same boss as the first few in the game :/

Most people seem to be a bit overpowered and kill the boss before they do their other attacks.

you probably ganked him before he could summon a knight, I just learned that the
covetous demon
has an attack that basically de-equips all your armor, rings and weapons and leaves you naked from watching the giant bomb playthrough.
