Not in this specific area, but yes their's a major one in the areas following it, so it is required. There is much to do in the game, and most people have missed various things in their first playthroughs. For example, I'm almost at the end of my first and I'm finding various early game secrets and stuff, new stuff will just come naturally, don't worry about it!

alrighty.

thanks for all your help! :D

Question, how to get my pre order bonus for my ps3 digital version? I got the theme but the weapons don't know how.

Start the download for game again, cancel it right away, look at the download list and you should see the individual packs. What I did, at least.

None of the items are worth it, though.

wait, curse doesn't instant kill you? so casual, wow

how do I reach this item? :

It's over a wall in Lost Bastille, right up the stairs after the bonfire with the blacksmith. I don't see any way to reach it?

I believe petrification is still an instant death thing. Hasn't happened to me yet though, because I know what kind of enemy not to mess with.
You need to walk along that wall to get the item, I forget exactly where you can get to it from but I think it's closer to the side from the no man's wharf elevator. It's a shield with high magic defense.

Did FROM have to put all the appealing miracle spells as rewards to covenants that don't work?! 150 invaders need to be killed for rank 2 to get Wrath of Gods...but the no ones invading! Oh, but i can just do sparring matches that equal the same amount... I don't have 150 tokens of fidelty to use, let alone people even doing those sparring matches! Well okay, how about Sunbros? "Summon is timed out due to server"

FGFGGHHHHSJJJJMMMMMMMM

I'M TELLING YOU HOW I REALLY FEEL.

Lol, I just had the most embarrasing coop experience. Someone summoned me on the second bonfire of B
righstone
C
ove
T
seldora
. I bowed, turned around and saw that this person had not yet gotten the crystal lizard on the ledge you drop down on. So, hoping to help this fellow to some titanite, I jumped at the lizard, missed, and fell into the giant sinkhole at the bottom. You were vanquished.

I remember Sony saying something about having to go back to the download page and pressing redownload and it would add all the weapons and stuff to your download list. I know you don't have to redownload the whole game, though.

Buy the Claymore off a guy in that misty forest near shaded ruins
No idea where that is but is that far into the game?
Fuck 'em. Run past.
My knight she's a bit low on the decent armor front I'm still using starting stuff. If I had better I probably could.
What I did was open the door, walk in enough to hear their sprinting, run back out to the are with all the crates and barrels, and fight the sole group of 3 that chase. After that it's just eliminating the rest 1 or 2 at a time.
I've been going inside instead I'll try that then thanks. Do they drop their stuff or is it available later on?

And whose that person under the tree in white armor is that this game's black knight sort of thing?

So I'm at lost Bastille, I can't for the life of me get past that room of all those soldiers. I open the door and they all charge at me.

Anyone know where the claymore is too?

If you don't want to run past, just bait them out bit by bit. Walk in, hear them clanking towards you, then book it back out so they follow in something of a line towards you. What I did is use the towards & RT attack with my Guts sword since it smashes them down 3 in a row if they are packed tightly enough. Once you get used to this, its a quick way to farm if you're low-level enough. Eventually, once you get used to the layout, you can book it past them onto.....other things.

Do you still get the bonus Souls effect from Jester's Gloves even if your stats are below what it requires?

Edit: Yes you do. Tested it myself.

Started NG+ with a great club. Respeccing is great for NG+, I love the ability to roll a new character for a + run.
I love the weapon, but I hate how it randomly hits/swings in the wrong direction. Do I have to hold the stick in the direction of the enemy I'm facing? Died a couple of times because of these mishits.

Yeah, I believe From implemented a system that allows larger strength weapons to change the direction of their attack even while locked on to deal with mobs and whatnot. From what I hear it's more confusing than it is helpful.

After not having PS3 access for 4 days, coming back to the game and kicking
Smelter Demon's
ass second try felt so good.

Yeah, the pentultimate boss was more challenging and one of the better
multiboss fights. Liked the health link mechanic implemented as the player suddenly has to change what had been the standard multiboss strat of picking one off before proceeding to the other
. Still, at least this final boss had more to it than just parrying your way to victory. (For all the atmosphere Gwyn had, he was a pretty 1 note and easy fight.)

If you don't know you can parry Gwyn he's really hard though, easily one of the hardest bosses in the game. When you do realise that you can parry him it becomes quite trivial though.

Aww, I'm slightly disappointed. I had heard if you pray to a fire thing at the end of
Shrine of Amana
, you could turn back into human an unlimited number of times (after saving those two maidens). But apparently you can only do that if you have 0 effigies left. Boo. I was wanting to keep my effigies and just go back there when I needed it.

I'm not in that covenant but wanted to try something: if you drop all your effigies on the ground, then go pray to turn human and later pick them effigies up again, would that work?

Was having some problems earlier. Like "Failed to create summon sign".

Just got prompted for an up date. Try quitting to the XMB to restart.

yea I got the update I think. I'm showing 1.02.

Every single summon sign since patching has been broke. Either timed out or something else. its a real Dark souls 2 buzzkill.

I just had 7 signs all spawn at once and all failed. "Summoning failed. player was uanble to join multiplayer session".

Finished the game, but need some help on a couple things:

Where are all the old giants souls? I got one from the bonfire area behind the door requiring king's ring in the forest of the giants and I know one is on the ancient dragon, but what about the other two?

I plan to go around and systematically murder all of the NPCs - anyone I should buy anything specific from or do before their bodies litter the floor?

I freed the assassin and he's been poorly trying to kill me for a while, someone mentioned further interaction?

Any other random notes?

ok so I killed the
miracle merchant
because the
crushed eye orb was acting up and I didn't think she would be killed for real and dispear from my game
.
did I lock myself out of the
big party in majula
trophy?

Oh, I didn't think it required a covenant to use it. Hmm. And I'll try that actually. Would be cool if that worked.

So I just got all 4 souls. Where am I supposed to go?

Go to the forked road in the Shaded Woods (where you can go west, north, or east; east being the mist section). Go west now to the
Shrine of Winter
. This will eventually lead you to
Drangleic Castle
. Prepare for "gorgeous view". :P

So we don't have the ridiculous ragdoll of past games instead we get...

*pics*

Sorry for the blurriness of the first pic.

No kill like overkill yo. Loved the floppy ragdolls in DS1, but these aren't bad either. Shame so many enemies just disappear.

Also, beat the chariot boss. Decided to say fuck it to the trio boss in Lost Bastille and just go to Huntsman's Copse. It was visually fucking awesome looking but damn, easy. Very easy.

I'm hoping it's a server load issue and not something that came with the patch.

Yeah the timing is way too suspicious though, unfortunately. This bug developing right when I go to switch to sunbros doubles the pain on my playthrough.

Also about this mid-game optional boss:
How does the giant Rat-thing at Doors of Pharros do eight damage to his minions but takes out 80% of my hp with the same swipe? I had to heal through two toxic bars while I tried to kill the last of the little things.
That's the hardest 15 seconds of Dark Souls I've ever played.

Since online is not working I've decided to do some more exploring, possibly finish the game and move on to NG+, even though I'm only at lvl 80 with my main character. I was wondering if anyone can help me access a certain area?
The area above where you first get the fire long sword in the Forest of the Fallen Giants. I thought by killing the enemy that spits fire I would be able to walk through there, but I was wrong. Then, I was thinking that I had to open the king door in that area, but I have not gotten that key yet. I just got to the Shrine of Amana.
Does anyone know how I can get there?

Killed the
Old Iron King
and the
Rotten
today and both felt really underwhelming although both were
Old Ones? :(
The
poison statues in the Gutter and the Black Gulch were really annoying though

If you're wanting to know how to get to the item up above where the fire longsword was, I think you have to go through the "king" door (you don't have the item yet; you'll get it shortly after where you are, though).

If you are wanting to know how to get to the fire-y area behind where the enemy spits fire, you have to get the Iron Key from
Iron Keep
, then ride the elevator down like you are going to the Last Giant boss fight and there's a door in the hallway there that you can open now. Be careful with those enemies - they can kill you pretty quickly with their fire spits. And watch out for holes up top in that area. I ran up there and didn't notice a hole in the ground (kind of blends in) and I died right away, lol.

Thanks! I actually went there before, but I didn't see anything. It'd taken me a while before I tried there again.

Sure, but the same is true of many bosses. (Final boss of DS2 spoiler)
In DS2's case, for instance, if you didn't realize the orbs are a) attack-able- which is an understable mistake to make since they aren't targetable and have little in the way of feedback on hit- and b) the reason you're being continually cursed, you'll also have a pretty hard time.

I know what door you're talking about. Let me check to see if I have the iron key. Thanks for the help.

Edit: I do have the iron key. Thanks again.

Is it possible to be summoned in a world were the host has used a bonfire ascetic/is in NG+? I just got summoned into a version of B
rightstone
C
ove
T
seldore
were the
spiders
almost oneshotted me.

Yeah, you can go down the well. There are other ways as well. :)
You can try getting Licia to move to Majula and speak with her in Majula to open another path, if you haven't been there already.

Yes. I got summoned there once and the host sent me a message that it was NG+ difficulty.

No problem. :) For some weird reason, though, the
Shrine of Winter
opened for me before I even had all 4 old souls. Like I went that direction first before going to the mist part of the Shaded Forest, so I only had 3 souls at the time. But the SoW opened up for me. I thought you needed all 4 to trigger it, but... *shrug* xD

You probably have the key. I don't recall where you get it in
Iron Keep
, but it's probably one of those things that is hard to miss. xD

No prob!

Where is that? Don't think I've met her. Any tips on areas to explore would be good too. Got to the
bottom of the well and got blown up pretty badly.
