Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

the 3ds version seems like it plays a lot differently compared to the wii u game and more closer to brawl. based on the developer direct video at least

Did Sakurai mention anything about game engine being similar between two systems? I would find it odd if you have two different game engine for both system, which would throw you off when you decided to play on Wii U.

Tell heath he's slipping :P

Yeah, I'm. I don't want to post too much. >.>

I actually don't expect any character reveal tomorrow. Maybe I say this as an attempt to not hype myself up too much, but I don't have the "new character"-feeling as I usually have.

Probably won't get a character for March. Actually has there been a month where we got no characters?

"Pic of the day. We haven't had a new character reveal for a while, so today I thought I'd show off an old favourite, Captain Falcon!"

then as a comment:

"To clarify, he's an assist trophy this time around due to irrelevance."

So, if Sakurai hosted an official poll for a newcomer nominee, who do you guys think would end up making it in?

Not including the 4chan/reddit takeovers that put Hitler Mii, Battletoad and FrankerZ in first place.

yeah he hasnt said anything about how both games play but the speed difference is really obvious and its irking

like here when sakurai was playing the wii u game at e3 it looks alot faster than brawl while the 3ds footage shown so far really doesn't

This is what I want from the next direct!!!!!!!! No veteran or newcomer reveals, no pre-rendered cutscenes or gameplay montages, I simply just want to watch another 2 or 3 minute match be played! Man I have watched that one match so many times it is rediculous.

I wouldn't mind if the two games have slightly different physics, as long as one isn't vastly superior to the other. I don't do competitive Smash, so I won't mind if the game isn't like Melee. I'm one of those weirdos that just wants to have fun.

I always felt they were toys/trophies made to fight in a unique Smash world. I still am not exactly sure what Brawl tried to do story-wise but I'm guessing the supposed Smash world was being invaded by some weird force made up of generic toys.

I also liked the fact the characters didn't talk in the cut-scenes because it kinda reinforces the idea that they were "toys" who were brought to life by the creators imagination.

So far it seems slower but I'm not opposed to it. The control schemes between the versions are different so they might be accounting for that among other things. I have the OG 3DS so I know for sure I wouldn't be able to maneuver my fingers on as fast and as comfortably as I do with a GC controller. BUT I'm pretty sure when you play it won't feel too slow.

Pre-reveal?
Megaman.
Now?
Mewtwo or Ridley.

You're discounting how clever 4chan can be. They wouldn't vote Hitler. They'd vote Lightning.

Today's post will probably be a new character.

...lying prone on the ground.

I'd love so much for Sakurai to cleverly hide a new character in a screen shot. Like to have him just put the shadow of a new character somewhere in a pic. Watch SmashGAF go insane over it.

Do you think this will get released before the end of Spring or at least sometime in the Summer?

Later Summer at earliest IMO, unless there's this sudden announcement that the Wii U version is to be released on the eShop following E3
Read: Never gonna happen

Not that I care about avatar calls personally but wouldn't it be more fair to only count calls AFTER a character is revealed via a trailer? So first one to the thread to request a character avatar after the reveal gets it? Seems kind of Bull shit that people just stack multiple request in a queue.

no, unfortunately
I'm thinking more like late fall/winter.

I think we'll be lucky to get it in the Fall.

: (

I was asking because there was footage of the game along with Mario Kart footage in that one Nintendo Direct about December to Spring titles. Mario Kart got a release date that's before the end of Spring, so I was thinking Smash could come out sometime in June if there aren't any delays. But maybe that's a bit too hopeful lol. > . <

I think a lot of us were hoping for that scenario.

cant believe i didnt notice it til now. really floaty

Really, the only way to discern that is from Link's jumps. Samus has always been a floaty jumper and Pikachu's upB just makes him slow fall to aid in recovery movement (I assume). DK immediatly upB's himself so can't truly discern floatiness there. Link's jumps do look floaty though and the overall speed does seem about brawl pace, but that could just be due to 3DS framerate/performance.
