Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

How......? I've been using basically all my free time to play Dark Souls 2 and I have one SL102 character and haven't even finished the game yet. I'm constantly amazed how quickly people get through these games.

As for invasions, I only got invaded a few times in Dark Souls that I can remember. I did a lot more co-op than anything else.

I played....a fuckton. Plus I was garbling up boss souls like crazy on the various characters before I finally got a handle on the developing meta and a build I wanted to play. Settled on hexes.

Has anyone else (especially sorcerers) experienced these camera problems with
Smelter Demon
, I feel like this is really poor game design.

edit - Fuck, did it! I had to really stick to him like glue so he did the delayed smash, if I got any distance at all he did the running thrust which seems to flip you around if blocked and that is what was causing the camera spaz-out. Had to really stay central in the area and not get too close to the walls. Bad form on From's part since it happened repeatedly, not just a one-off fuck up.

Did you turn off the camera auto-adjust when close to a wall in the settings? I forgot the exact name but I turned that shit off so fast.

In retrospect, No Man's Wharf did turn out somewhat underwhelming as far as scope/intricacy. I expected another Blighttown or Catacombs but its still creepy and well designed despite its brevity.

No worries, you'll get your dark shitty level soon.

I had zero problems whatsoever with the camera on this fight. Fought him like 15 times already since I found him to be so easy and just grinded some Sunbro medals. In fact, the only time I've had a problem with the camera was with the Last Giant (coincidentally also the boss that gave me the hardest time, because of that issue). Although that was easily remedied by not locking on.

lol, oh the amount of times I thought to myself "Oh, this must be DSII's Blighttown" only to move on to a worse area later. No-Man's Wharf? Oh, it's Blighttown. Harvest Valley? No, this must be Blighttown. The Gutter? Now this is definitely Blighttown. Black Gulch? Fuck!

Haha good to know I'll get my wish eventually. I never had a problem with Blighttown though I absolutely loved the Catacombs.

Lol, I was thinking the exact same thing at those areas. xD

Beat
Freja
on my first try this morning by upgrading my Warped Sword enough to one-hit the adds consistently. Do weapons do varying damage in this game? It seems the spread is enough that I'm regularly unable to predict if I'll one-shot an enemy.

I've noticed that the warped sword does more damage when you are closer, almost like how the Halberd does more damage when you hit further out with the end instead of up close.

So I wanted to upgrade my giant sword to some type of magical sword. I've never actually enchanted any of my swords before in a souls game.

What's a good one that people are finding useful? Fire? Lightning?

Fire and lightning scale now, so what's your character build? Do you have any points in intelligence or faith? I'm using lightning at the moment and finding it quite handy. Much better than divine weapons from the first game.

It's really annoying how the broadsword move set makes it hit the ground when you attack.

Weapons are already made of paper to begin with, but that eats up durability like nothing else.

Dark weapons imbued with dark, buffed with
resonant weapon
= get rekt

Strength (40) with some dexterity (20) on the side.

I was meaning towards lightning but maybe I'll try dark. Get another sword up to speed as I've just been using the dragonlic and giant Greatsword.

I havent encountered problems while being summoned. At Lost Bastille I would literally get summoned 5 - 10 seconds after I laid down a summoning sign

For the past 4 days, I sat down to play, thinking that tonight is the night I will probably get to the end.

And it just. keeps. going!

It's awesome. I am impressed at how much there is. I did something where now when I try and teleport I
can see the unvisited bonfires, so that gives me a sense of how much there is left to do.

Is there a good element for pure strength? I have 50 strength, 15 dex, and no extra points in int/faith. Or should I just leave it at a plain +10?

Holy shit, I am rolling in titanite chunks from cheap/easy sorcery PVP kills at the belltower. Got the slab reward (30 kills) in one long play session last night.

Flame swathe is amazing. Some people know how to dodge it but so many people get annihilated in one cast. My load times are longer than most invasions. It's an incredible counter to an estus chugger because they probably won't be fast enough to get out of the way. Even having lots of luck with regular ass heavy soul arrows. Who would have thought.

I have pyromancy flame +3. INT is around 31 and I think my FAI is 18. I'm far from maxed out, but flame swathe is still usually a 1100-1200 HP one hit kill against hosts in the first belltower.

PVE is going okay, but man, going almost pure caster is spreading my points thin, and it's giving me too much to upgrade! I still have barely any vigor, strength, dex, not enough endurance, and my FAI isn't high enough yet to do anything but give me more fire damage. Glass cannon usually isn't my thing in these games but spell casting seems less clunky.

If i'm investing in INT and FAI (INT 31, FAI 18 currently), which is the best staff to use? Currently I use dark weapon, and a bunch of the soul spells. Should I keep upgrading the sorcerers staff or get the one from the merchant in the Copse? Or is that only better if I'm focusing only on hexes and not regular sorcery? I want to do both - and pyro - but I can't use most of the good hexes yet.

I would casually argue that you should go with something that is in line with your character's theme. I'm building an evil ninja, poison is a no-brainer for instance. If you were building a typical SunBro, lightning all the way. Etc.

Yeah, I've noticed. Took out an armored dude with one hit that tried to invade me in the first tower. The 2nd tower is harder to use it, as they can just dodge to the side, where in the 1st tower they have limited space.

btw: Do we know if the belfry towers are limited to soul memory? Like will someone invade me if they are within my soul memory?

Heh, I murdered most of the belltower invaders I came across. I just sat at the bottom and used the pile of bodies as a choke point and when they would run through I would toss magic bombs at them and then roll forward and stab. My guy is a melee build so it's awesome that I can still dish out magic damage on unsuspecting players. I even killed a few using magic bombs as they tried to run away.

Talk to her after the Dragonrider boss fight. She will move to the tunnel between Majula and Heide's afterwards.[/I]
And make sure you talk to her at least four times. You'll know it's enough when she starts talking about relocating (also if she repeats herself, that's enough).

I beat that god damn
giant spider boss
last night in a thrilling battle where my two incompetent summons got wiped out quite early. Thank god. I couldn't have the idea of traversing that room hanging over my head while I'm out of town and away from the game for a week.

If the boss had been anything except
a giant spider
I probably would've really enjoyed it. I generally really like the Souls bosses that run like Monster Hunter fights. (Kalameet was one of my favorite bosses in the first game.)

you mean the
girl that sells miracles? If that's her she doesn't move. If not I didn't met her at all.

also, where can I find this boss,
Belfry Gargoyle.
I think I need the key they drop in order to kill another boss AND after that I can finally get a fucking yore to unlock shaded woods. edit: I know they're in Belfry Luna but I don't know how to arrive there. I didn't see any other path in Lost Bastille.

edit - OK, this is dumb. I got push back from his sword and my character model was literally bobbing up and down against the wall in a semi-falling back animation and I couldn't do anything until I locked off. This is going to be one of those classic From Soft borked geometry moments isn't it.
My favorite graphical glitch is when I run back to an area with dead creature bodies on the ground and they end up with their heads buried in a concrete wall like someone shoved it in by force, leaving the rest of their body hanging.

If you use a lockstone on the floor below the bonfire after the
Ruin Sentinels
, you'll be well on your way to the
gargoyles
.

I loved the art of the area when I first got there, but S
hrine of Amana
is ruined for me when all I do is die from magic shit that gets tossed at me from a great distance.

which bonfire, first (near blacksmith) or second one? Also I just checked and there is a door near the beginning that I can't unlock.

Keep pressing talk and eventually
she'll say she needs to go or something, then you'll find her in that contraption room in Majula.

The Gutter:

This is going to sound crazy but I actually really enjoyed Blighttown 2 (or is it Valley of Defilement 3?). The torch made a huge difference in gameplay for me, and I actively went around finding secrets by lighting sconces. It's a good thing I have plenty of fire butterflies, and about 2 hours of torch time.

None of the enemies were challenging at all, but the poison spitting statues were cool. When they got me it was usually because I was being careless. I also liked that a few of them were disguised by lying down, or hanging from ropes.

I don't know what the hell that giant bug I killed was. It didn't drop anything important, and it didn't block the way.

Black Gulch
was extremely cool visually, but I basically just ran through to the boss fight, which was fine but not particularly challenging.

I finally got to Drangleic Castle
but couldn't find a bonfire and got swarmed by enemies so that was it for the night. Did I miss something obvious?

In the case of dark I believe it scales with whatever stat is higher between int and faith, so you can pick either of those and be good.

Is that some dueling rule?
Nah, just a death sentence.

If anyone is actually complaining about healing during pvp now that phantoms can use estus as well I'd be very confused.

To get to Bellfry Luna
Use a Pharros stone down a ladder right next to the bonfire in Lost bastille, the one near the Sinner Rise entrance

If you have
McDuff's
workshop bonfire unlocked, I believe it's the third bonfire in the list. Regardless, it's the bonfire after the
Ruin Sentinels
, right after the
exploding hollow in the jail cell
tries to get the jump on you.

From the bonfire, take the ladder down right beside it and use a lockstone.
