Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

So today I got off work went straight to Gamestop and picked my copy of Infamous Second Son. Got showered and what not and was like ok lets get some gaming in. I wanted to do one little thing in Dark Souls real quick before I started Infamous.
Well five hours later I'm still playing Dark Souls, this game is ADDICTING!

I lit a bonfire aesthetic in Black Gulch to fight The Rotten so I can get the soul for that Berserk looking sword.
I summoned two people to fight the boss and they died in one hit! I then solo it and it was a grind! I make it halfway and run out of flasks. I have a few gems, i had other healing stuff but it wasnt equipped. I end up finishing that fucker off! I was fucking stoked! That feeling is something I rarely get from gaming........I don't think Ill be playing Infamous tonight.

So is Vengarl's set like the best one in the game for its weight tier (Mid high)? I'm sure Havel's is better, but it's very heavy. Come to think of it, I haven't seen any other armor better than Vengarl's.

Nice! I've been using that sword. Thing is beastly.

Second boss to give me the most trouble besides the
Ruin Sentinels
was the goddamn (doors of pharos's)
Rat Brigade, second verse
. Guess it's some kind of penance for finding the first one so easy.

hahaha same shit for me, man. I was off work today and picked up my copy as soon as GS opened this morning. I also wanted to do one quick thing in Drangleic before getting involved in Second Son...yeah I never even took it out of the case!

Got summoned as a blue phantom and was promptly sent back when the master died as I was rising out of the ground.

EDIT: Aww yeah, got summoned again and we killed the invader. Love it.

I discovered the location of the sunbro covenant really late in my life, already nearly level 100, and it's quite hard grinding out 27 more sunlight medals at this level. Easy to get summoned at the Smelter Demon, but hosts tend to have trouble surviving this fight. If they'd just stay back I could solo it easily enough (I have the dwarf shield, making him pretty easy) but they never do.

Thinking about rolling another alt. I remember how ridiculously easy it was to get chain summoned at the pursuer fight. Maybe I should keep my SL pretty low and get to the sunbro (all I have to do is beat huntsmans at a low level, which I think is doable) and then sunbro at the lower level bosses to get my covenant ranked up...

I was sl 107 when I even got to the sunbro area and just farmed the slug right after it for all 30 medals. Stick your sign down at the little tunnel that leads away from the closest bonfire and just browse gaf while waiting.

Which armor is everyone rolling with? Is there any really good armor that still keeps you comfortably enough below 70% weight at 20 Vit?

I doubt it is optimal, but I really like the look of the Alva set. If you just use that you will have a ton of room for weapons. When I actually care about defence I stick out the pants and gloves from the Drangleic set and am still under 70% with my Drangleic sword/sheild and some bow.

NOOOO! get dat ADP up to 20 asap ....it caps at 38. Dont forget about VIT either. Two most important stats for roll people.

Does it cap at 38, or does it also mater what your ATM is, since it also modifies agi?

so let's just say I'm at a certain shrine late game wise

what would happen if I hit a certain NPC?

Got a tip for you. Before you do that try to learn the route from there to the bonfire. After 15 times you should be able to do it without getting hit! Then you can start thinking about that big guy.

In one of the loading screens, they mention an armor that's strong but light? And it seems special. Any idea what the name is?

I'm not to the
giant memories part yet, but can you go into detail on the time limit? What do you mean by that? What happens if you run out of time doing whatever it is you have to do?

I'm not sure how long the time limit is exactly, but I'd guess it's around ten minutes. If time runs out, you have to start over (all enemies respawn). It's not bad per se, but it's very strange for a Souls game. It feels like it's pushing you to play recklessly in one "memory" in particular.

Weird, the
watchers
were easily the hardest part of the game for me besides the
ancient dragon
.

Maybe it varies depending on your build. I had a high dex/adp, low armor/HP build, and I beat it on my first attempt partially hollowed.

I personally think it's complete BS and serves no purpose. Especially in the memory you are talking about. Like, half of those giants in there one shot you. If you want to kill them you HAVE to take your time.

get ready for the most frustrating battle in souls

are we talking about the same chick right? the one talking about something something my singing talent keeps the little ones at bay blah blah darkness something something?

she look like she ain't shit but...what if

blue sentinels should be able to help out in the bell towers as well. Would help quite a bit for everyone involved.

My biggest issue with the Covenant and it's my favorite. I want to dish out justice to those with guilt in their hearts at will...but unfortunately blue orbs are a rarity (who knows why) and no one ever summons when I'm wearing the ring.

Wait, did you finish the zone yet? Surpriseeee

No we aren't :[.

As far as that chick goes, I don't recall her having any purpose at all. Well, except lore.

I'm not sure where you are in the game, but I just went back to the
Guardian Dragon
at SL140'ish and had pretty close to instant summons the entire time for 17 or so battles.

You could get all 30 there in very little time if needed.

The "Alva" set that I mentioned has that in it's description. Sold by the merchant in town after you spend like 16k or something on stuff in his shop

100% agreed.

When I was starting the game I assumed that is how it would work and players in those areas would get consta-invaded and people would come to help them. It makes sense, the covenant mechanics would be playing off one another. Oh well

edit: on a side note, do you have to have double the stat reqs for a weapon for a damage bonus?

I had to take a break after no progress in 2 hours. I was trying to kill the gargoyles in the bell tower and kept getting invaded by two people before I could even get there. When I did get there, I was having a hard time taking the gargoyles out before too many spawned. I need a better weapon (Bastard Sword + 5). I was hoping to get some help but couldn't find anyone to summon outside the smoky doorway. First time so far I have quit the game in frustration (lost about 15,000 souls; not much but still hurts). It is still great game and I'll probably play again tonight.

Few questions guys; if they've been answered sorry, but I am trying to avoid spoilers.

Does the roll vary between really heavy and sloppy to just the normal one? Because I've been messing around with equipment weight and sometimes can't see the difference in rolls.

How high should I bring my adaptability up? Right now it's my number one concern. Sloppy maneuverability is a big no no for me.

What do I get for people rating my messages?

In the end it doesn't matter all that much. You're going to get tagged at least 50% of the time when you dodge anyway. Fast dodge or cow dodge.

If you already have the door open you can just run for it and go though and it will cancel the invasion. Could also just make sure to kill things to get them to stop spawning even if you die.

Do I have to trade one smooth stone at a time at the birds nest or can I just dump all of em all at once?

One at a time. They get mad if you try to drop a fat stack.

I was okay with
The Gutter
. Quite liked it actually, at least on my first playthrough, since navigation benefited greatly from
keeping a torch in one hand. There wasn't enough of that in the game. I have 2:30 hours left on my torch with nothing to really use it on.

Black Gulch
, on the other hand, is absolutely abysmal level design. Makes Lost Izalith seem like Tower of Latria.

It's not so much that I particularly dislike the place, it's more that the luster has pretty thoroughly worn off at this point.
Absent the fact that it actually employs the torch mechanic it's a pretty simplistic place, and my feelings on the torch have been pretty tepid ever since the original network beta test.

I liked the whole Valley of Defilement in Demon's Souls quite a bit, since it was one of the most actively hostile places imaginable. Almost pitch dark, hideous nasties everywhere, a massive poisonous swamp to slog through, and then the whole thing culminates in an abortion-themed abattoir. Blighttown was basically the 5-1 and 5-2 slog in Demon's condensed into one level that waged a war against console GPUs that it won handily, which I didn't terribly mind on the whole though I can't say I particularly liked the place until the PC version came out and made it less... unique, let's say.

The Gutter feels more like a perfunctory diversion. No boss, no shift from scaffolding to swamp, no particularly interesting enemies, silly poison-spitting statues (though I did like a bit how these would screw with your weapon durability if you didn't use the torch or something expendable to smash them), just a bunch of collapsing floors and the occasional jump in darkness. And then it culminates in Black Gulch, which has pretty much gotta be the game's nadir in terms of interesting environmental design.

I don't hate it, but probably the only reason it doesn't grate on me too much is that it's got the good sense to be over soon. That's about the briefest summary of it I can come up with: it's a mostly warmed-over level-design that's short enough to not incite contempt. Just head on down, grit your teeth, and get it over with in the 20-30 minutes it demands of you before you can move on to better things.

How do I get to the 3rd bonfire in E
arthern Peak

It's directly above the area with the two knights blocking the boss door, go up the stairs to the right of it and when you're on top there are two illusory walls. One of them is the bonfire.

instead of going left and fight the 2 gaurds before the boss, go up the stairs turn left (the mimic is on the right side of the hall)
fight a red phantom,
and the bonfire is located on a hidden wall, on the balcony to your right.

are there any decent medium sized shields with 100% physical block besides from the drangleic shield

Royal Kite Shield, Defender's Shield. Also King's shield, even tho it's a small shield. Personally I rather take the Defender's.

Oh Man
Darkdrift
Sword is hilarious to troll invaders keep getting messages that they were killed by lag and whatnot.
INVISIBLE KATANA
MOTHERFUCKERS!

Sorry if it's been asked or covered, but I was curious about the fog door bonfire next to the windmill in Earthen Peak. There's a fog door in front of it and I don't understand why 1. there's a fog door there at all, and 2. what the difference is in going the back way through the door (reverse), which can be done by dropping to the bonfire from above, before activating the fog gate.

I understand that fog doors don't always cover boss rooms, and this has been the case in D- Souls games of the past, but I can't think of any that are in front of such a tiny and seemingly innocuous spot as a small platform with nothing on it but a bonfire. Furthermore, if you try to enter it from the bonfire side, as I did, it notes that you're entering the fog door from the reverse, which seems significant, otherwise why note it?

Might be nothing, but could be something specific and cool.

So I've been using a DEX character for my 2nd build, and I'm liking it so far. Just got the black steel katana, and love the move set. Does good in PvE and PvP, but what are the heavy hitting DEX weapons? Just cleared the Lost Bastille, and about to clear Iron Keep. Any weapons to look out for in other areas?

I finally beat
Ruin Sentinels.

I used this...

FYI about Black Gulch, there are two ledges you can jump down to that take you to different areas. One near the first bonfire, close to the puddles, and one near the second bonfire. Use a torch to see them. The first ledge leads you to Lucatiel, and the second ledge leads you to a locked stone door where Darkdriver Grandhal is (for the Pilgrims of Dark Covenant, though you can't join till later). There are also some giants that give you the Forgotten Key once you defeat them to open the locked door (there are two other stone doors in the Majula well and in the Gutter).

I found that first ledge completely by accident. I got pushblocked off the ledge and found it haha. Man, that saved sooooo much frustration

So...holy fucking shit. Just got to a room that seems like it's stupid impossible. Late game location spoilers:
I just got to Drangleic Castle. What the FUCK is up with that room with FIVE Ruin Sentinels in it? Plus another 6 fucking regular dudes? AND they respawn every time you die?
-throws up hands and walks away-

Oh my gosh, the Dragon Aerie is beautiful. Have the hud to autohide and just walking around the area is a joy. Can't wait to see how thee PC version looks. Game is so stunning at times that it makes the flat stuff stand out all the more.

Finished the game!

The last boss was a pain, not gonna lie. The one time i almost killed it solo, i fell off the cliff by mistake. almost broke my controller. Then i summoned a guy who kept shooting soul arrows, and killed her for me. Next time am gonna role as a sorcerer. Still am happy i finished it in 5 days before college starts again
