Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

lol I am still rolling around in Leather armor to keep my equip burden at ~35%. It's not even upgraded. I'm still playing in a "dodge or die" kinda way and it has been fucking fun.

I usually worry like crazy about that but in 2 as long as I'm below 70% I'm good.

Soon you'll find Vengarl and never take it off. Just play fashion Souls.

Hah, this is actually what I started doing. Been using the way worse Elite Knight set because of how cool it looks, and it has the side benefit of being light enough to let me use a shield that fully blocks damage without a fat roll.

True, at a minimum you can't exactly respect how you used up your reinforcement materials.

And admittedly respecing's probably more useful for deciding you want to branch out a bit when you have a ton of soul levels, I only did it once but it was because I wanted to get some magic options opened up at the expense of a little STR/DEX and a lot of ADP. Not full on turn my character into a mage (although I think my point may still hold for NG+. Do it at the start, and you gather up materials and all against relatively weak enemies.)

That's what i thought about, though i came to a conclusion that i didn't have any points i want to withdraw to be a mage/warrior, probably just couple of DEX, since i mistakably thought a swordsmen was a cool class to chose at the start.

That requires a good tank (i.e. me). I could solo bosses and grab attention so everyone else can burst them down.

Sunbro represent!

I used to do that with ring equipped. Stopped since it felt like cheating. Also, i could sense the other players are annoyed that i didn't contribute to the fight, they would just pull the "No-way" gesture at the end, it hurts.

The amount of people who don't know how to
drain the poison in Earthen Peak
is hilarious. Not really hinted so you can't blame them.I like helping them out though.

It's probably just me, but i do get this feeling that this game relies heavily on finding the solution online.

Unfortunately yes. It's just a trap.

:( Lame, but not frustratingly so. I haven't gotten to any point where I can farm a bunch of those keys so I still need to be choosey.

If you drained the poison it will be be healing water instead that that pharros lock makes.
Still not the best use of one of those items though.
That's interesting. I love being clueless about a Souls game again. All these little things going on in this huge world. I don't know every crevice yet haha

I didn't know until I did coop and someone else had already done it in their world. I hadn't actually tried fighting in my own world yet.

Speaking of that area, is that Pharros lock in the nearby room a complete troll? Did I waste a key on it?

The one past the poison jars and mushrooms? Standing in the water will completely heal you.

Edit- Beaten

I'm in the end game now so is there a better shield to use?

Matters. McDuff sells a 100 shield that is lighter, has better other resistances, and upgrades with normal materials that you can boost right away to being better then the base Drangleic Shield. Not sure if the upgraded Drangleic ends up better because I've been blowing all my twinkling on the sword.

Whoa man, New Game+ spoiler:

Harvest Valley, I went through a passage that I never found in my first run through the game and it was a real death trap. Maybe five of the guys with the big round scythe-like weapons, two red phantom versions of those guys and then a handful of fodder enemies as well... With no way out!

I'm not looking forward to going back there to get my souls...

For pure 100 against physical it's still by far the lightest I've seen.

Sheit. I should go back there.

Run up the ramp so they can't all gang up on you. The second door from the end to the right is the way out and can break though and they will not follow. There is also a crystal lizard back there.
After the arrow trap box, that room was the biggest killer of hosts when I was grinding sunbros.

I have the same problem. I know the strategy actually, it's just infuriating how apparently
running half a degree from its tail
may or may not get you killed.

He's honestly a poor boss, IMO (yeah I'll still say that after I beat him... and I will!). Not fun. Kalameet wasn't as hard, but he was more fun to fight. He was challenging, but he had a variety of attacks and he mixed it up, and it was just overall more dynamic and exciting. This asshole is just boring to fight. :(

I figured out an easy tactic. When you get to the legs, just strike the back ones a few times. When he jumps, two things happen; he either hops so that you are on his opposite side, or that fire attack. When he does the latter, he often turns from the angle you're at, so if you're at his right leg, when he jumps he turns to the right. That's your cue to run in that direction, keeping his tail in view. Doing this guarantees your safety. It then becomes a game of just doing that for five minutes until he dies. He's actually very, very, very, very simple when you get that tactic down pat. And I say this, originally stuck on him for four hours and his area was the first one that stopped spawning enemies that I didn't grind in.

Did some Jolly Cooperation...lots of people looking for friends to fight Mytha.

Definitely better off putting your summon sign where the poison pool used to be so you don't get summoned to one where it's still full. I don't know the etiquette on messaging people to tell them how to drain it. Tried lighting my torch and doing the point gesture towards the spot. Wasn't very effective.

Had some extremely intense invasions in Belfry. PvP seems to work A LOT better in this than in DS, so far every fight has been pretty much lag free and absent of the constant jumping around and rolling going for a backstab that was 90% of PvP in DS.

Making good progress, up to
Brightstone
and SL 90 I think. Still waiting to reach an area I don't like, but nothing has been half as bad as Blighttown yet. Though that forest area with the curses made me lose a handful of effegies before I realized what was going on.

This' my dude:

Btw the regular Knight Armor set seems almost better than the Elite set.. or am I missing something? Similar stats, lower weight.

To any of you that care about trophies and such, any definite trick to unlocking
Smith for Life
? I tried trial and error a bit and then tried the methods I found online, but it's not popping.

Any tips?

Upgrade a bunch of stuff with him I think. Spend a bunch of money on upgrades, not just buying stuff from his shop. Read people saying you have to spend a bunch in his shop too, but a friend says he only bought the shield then upgraded a bunch of stuff and it unlocked after talking to him.

Yeah, I've spent a bunch of souls and upgraded a few things. Guess it's just not enough. I'll upgrade more random shit.

So whenever I pvp with others and they lose they send me a message saying they are going to post my gamertag on the forums. Anyone know what forums they are talking about?

Question, late game, about giants.

Is going back in their memories just to get the item Giant's Kinship? Is there anything else I can miss in the other ones? I think I've been through them all.

Further, what happens if you go to
the final boss area
before this getting this?

I like that shield bashes actually do some significant damage in this game (whereas in DS1 they were pretty useless even as joke weapons). I killed the dragon rider on NG+ by two handing a Gyrm greatshield. I did up to 600 damage/hit which isn't half bad.

Probably the official forums. Don't worry about it, they're just salty that they aren't gud. Surprisingly, I haven't gotten any mail yet, and I've had a couple very cheap wins, like spawning behind a guy as he's attacking a fellow invader and backstabbing him.

I maintain that Shrine of Amana is a goddamn cakewalk next to the
Dragon Temple
.

Beat the game earlier,
interesting that this game seemingly only has one ending unlike the first two games. It's like "nope, you're the king motherfucker" and that's it. Nashandra was a total chump final boss, Gwyn fight was leagues better.

Time to get to No-Man's Wharf in NG+ and farm for the badass looking Shadow set.

Further, what happens if you go to
the final boss area
before this getting this?

I believe
it just lets you leave as Nashandra won't appear without having the Giant's Kinship
.

The entire Drangleic set can be considered the "drake's sword" of this game. Every part of it can last a long time if it's what you need.

Agreed, i wish it wasnt available so early. i must have worn that thing for at least 20 hours, then towards the end of the game i was changing chest armor every couple of hours or so.

Whats the quickest way to D. Castle? I've completed
Lost Sinner
,
Old Iron King
, and would like to up my miracle arsenal from the NPC there.

Does it cap at 38, or does it also mater what your ATM is, since it also modifies agi?
Yes ADP does not modify agility past 38 if I am led to believe what I believe correctly. But yes you should get a little agility bonus from ATN as well...but how that works with casting speed vs. estus chugging vs. rolling, may be another math problem I cant figure out!

Lol. I just remembered the locked door
right before the first boss in Forest of Fallen Giants
, and I happened to have the key finally. But damn, those fucking
lizards
are brutal. Tongue goes right through my shield, can't run from them...ahhhh.

Someone summoned me and instantly sent me back :/ Didn't like my armor?

Lol at (late game boss spoilers)
ancient dragon. The boss run to him is absurd.

Fuck's sake, the key problem with A
ncient
D
ragon
is the one two combo of huge ass hit boxes and stupidly high damage. Nearly EVERY attack can easily be a one shot kill, and ones that can hit you even if you were sprinting full speed from the second you knew it was coming. Worse it seems it's actually just worse for you to hire help, I'm doing 600 damage per hit now but was doing 300 hundred either as a phantom or when I summoned help. What the FUCK? I understand scaling it with help there, but when the boss is already a piece of shit and the point is to have help it should probably be a bit more lenient.

EDIT: No seriously the hitboxes are complete bullshit,
I'm getting killed by tail smackdowns I clearly wasn't in the range of, not seeing the tail hit down on me and while standing near the front of the back feet.

You still need to kill 2 more.
Drop down the whole in Majula, or go to the shaded woods. Doesn't matter which one is first

I used to do that a lot if i needed to use the bonfire. I do send apology messages, though.

Damn, D
rangleic Castle
is amazing from the outside, visually. It reminds me of when I first got to Anor Londo. Just gaping at the grandness of it.
