If you raise Str and Dex and the weapon scales properly, sure. Lighting scales with Faith so if you had a random weapon that had an A or S scaling in Str or Dex, raised said stat, 'infused' it as Lightning (and if you want, buff with Sunlight blade or something) then yes.

Edit: Oop double, sorry.

Whats a good cut off for faith levels? Between Dex/Str/Faith I'm not sure about the split. Level 50 in faith and I could use the Lighting spear spell I got from Sun bros level 3.

Your Avatar LOL

I love it
Thanks, Solitaire's the best.
Fortunately. Then again your damage seems to be halved with more people there and since most of us suck at it they may die right away anyway.

I still have A
ncient
D
ragon
but he's an asshole without rewards to justify the expense at this point. Maybe depending on how summoning rewards work though...
I got a really good mage earlier, who got one shot but did decent damage to him (not really, my club did more). Almost got him down to 25% health after that though.

I just realized I don't even know what he gives you, I don't remember why I tried fighting him lol.
When you walk in the fog, bait him to do that forward flame attack, then run towards his back legs and hug the inside of one of them and stand still. From here, 3 things happen:

1. He lifts up the leg you're against and will slam it down. If lifts his leg up, roll to the opposite back leg and attack and stand still afterwards hoping he does this again, as it's the easiest thing to avoid. He kept doing this for like 80% of my battle.

2. He lifts up his front part and sticks his head under his body and breathes fire towards his back legs. If he does his, just run to the outside of his back legs then back in once the attack is over and wait.

3. He flies up to do the AoE thing. Just move the camera around and find his tail shadow and run in that direction, and once it's over run back to his inside legs and wait.
Ok, cool, I'll try this strat out tomorrow then, thanks!

NG+/bonfire ascetic spoiler - So has anyone else faced the
dual Pursuers in the Drangleic Castle throne room as a melee character? How'd you do?

Beat the game just now :D

42:54 Hours and Level 158. Pretty happy with the game overall...not sure how I'd rank it in comparison to the other Souls games but had a blast. Regarding graphics...some areas looked amazing, while others definitely have some drab or ugly textures. But
Dragon Aerie?
Damn.

All depends what you want to use, I guess. If you want to use Sunlight Spear then take it pretty high. Same with Str and Dex. There's only a point in raising them to match whatever weapons you'd like to use.

So I accidentally purchased this game on the Xbox marketplace. I have 0 idea what this series is about and I haven't seen any gameplay. Any tips or anything before I start it?

Put points into Adaptability for rolling and abusing invincibility frames.

In the dream of one of the giants you can snatch a soul vessel. in the main dream you can snatch a bonfire ascetic. right before him is an item containing 2 twinkle titanites. when you use an ascetic on the bonfire right after the kings door, you reset ALL drops for all dreams AND the TT spot. Collect TT + Ascetic (+soul vessel if you want), beat boss, use ascetic. Rinse and repeat. The 3 Hero Souls may respawn as well, meaning cheap almost endless Souls. The game stops to increase the difficulty at ng7, but you can use ascetic indefinitely.

you are gonna die so many times. enjoy

Can faith builds have decent melee damage with the right scaling?

INT and Faith builds can be amazing melee characters. What you do is keep your weapon on the normal upgrade path, put a ton of points into INT or Faith, then use the magic weapon or sunlight blade spells, and you'll do just as much damage as non-magic characters, if not more.

I believe the
giant souls don't actually respawn using a bonfire ascetic.

Is there any story explanation as to why guys like
Velstadt and Vendrick
are just as tall, if not taller than the giants?

Velstadt just seems like a :bigguy: Vendrick might be a Lord Soul thing.

Oh, boss fight though zzz. This would be better if it was like the petrified dragon bone respawning in Aldia's keep with no boss.

I was just backtracking a bit through No-man's Wharf and an enemy hit me with an oil pouch. After killing him, I was cycling through my weapons and briefly took my Pyromancy Flame out. Of course, that immediately resulted in a painful explosion. What a fantastic, subtle interaction — I love it.

lol i lost 30000 souls on my way to fight the smelter demon, all because i was dumbass and backed away into a fall right before the fog gate, feels bad man :( Also Smelter demon doesn't seem that hard ya guys are crazy, just dodge his shit. I do have to beat him tough.....

you don't want to know how many times I died in that place trying to get everything. All those jumps, all that lava...

I got all the items though. Every last one.
Most of them are worthless.

Smelter is my favorite Boss fight. Apart from the very cheap insta-100%kill jump-pond-explosion, he's fair but challenging and memorable. I died to him the most I think. That fight alone made me learn the doge timing in DS II from scratch.

I think 5 failed tries vs the Smelter Demon have convinced me to put this shit up on eBay. I'm done. I loved Demons, and DS1, that will just have to be enough.
You've gone through bosses from Demon's and Dark Souls that were more aggrivating than
Smelter Demon
then, considering a timely roll in one direction alone dodges nearly all of his attacks (including after
both powering up states
). There's even a fire resistance ring from one of the merchants you've likely met so far, if not the one at
Iron Keep
itself. I still died to him a few times over, but with that one simple adjustment to my rolling habits I've gotten consistently gotten closer to killing him each time by usually whittling him down to 30% - 40% at minimum if I did it right. I had the tendency to choke by mistiming a roll or heal.

Christ that
chest in eastern earthen peak
gave me a heart attack

maybe I should've read the message before it :/
I only read
a "trap ahead" message next to that one and even with a blood stain besides it I didn't think twice of it. I've encountered that chest late enough into the game (approximately 30 hours for me) to the point I started feeling more comfortable around chests again, what with me just being paranoid about all the other ones I wrongfully thought to be mimics. Instead I kept getting those pansy-ass traps (arrows, poison clouds, ...) that also had the same messages and blood stains next to 'em. I even thought the chest itself visually looked different, but I attributed that to another case of the lighting throwing me off and it probably not really having any discernable quirks that would seperate it from actual chests as a result. How wrong I was. I also just happened to stop being patient enough to see whether I could see it breathing like in the original game or (if I had time to spare) to find out if it had an idle animation if you waited long enough.

That one was carefully and deviously placed alright. Spooked me something fierce.

Is there a way to get the items on the fire rocks besides suicide?

This Hex build is my fourth character and it's the most boring by far, partially because I can't figure out a decent weapon to use. Murakumo is so heavy and Helix Halberd I like but it's kind of trash.

Using the "secret" Santier's Spear weapon out of boredom.

How do I get to (area)S

'Servant's Quarters' bonfire, pretty narrow path from there. Through a hallway, up some stairs, and a gate + bridge leads to that area. It's under 'Straid's Cell' bonfire if you have that unlocked.

Oh do you have a surprise waiting for you, just persist and dont give up no matter how much you want to break the controller or tv.

I don't consider that move cheap. It's clearly telegraphed.
If you see him dig his sword into the ground, run away (he doesn't always follow that up with the blast, but get away from him regardless).. You always have enough time to get away from it, and its radius is pretty reasonable (unlike, say, Stray Demon's similar attack).

Had a lot of painful/fun co-op against Smelter with hosts who wouldn't get away from the AOE blast. :P

Ugh, how do I read the melee weapon attack stat page again?

I have two swords: Broadsword+5 and some other sword +3.

The broadsword does 180 physical damage. The other sword 150 or so. I can upgrade them both with a large titanite shard. The broadsword would go to 192. The other sword 162. The thing is, the other sword has 80 bleeding attack.

Which sword does more damage and which sword is best to upgrade?

I've been using this broadsword for basically the entire game. Just beat
the poison valley.

Also, question 2: is the ONLY WAY to get the antiquated key to beat the Pursuer in the Giants area? I don't even know where he is anymore. He's not on his little platform. So I don't know how to really explore more of the
Lost Bastille

There's some vases you can roll into to get wet. You can tell it's working if you're leaving behind wet footprints. Also a Pharos lockstone generates a puddle but I never had any luck getting that to work.

From there use flash sweat and/or an orange burr to be safe. You'll probably die anyways, but you might get some loot out of it.

If I join the Company of Champions covenant, is the difficulty increase permanent? Really just wanted to join for the achievement before resuming a different covenant.

I'm not sure about the answer to your first question, though I think it's not permanent. But as far as the achievement is concerned, you don't have to actually join the covenant for it. They all unlock when you get to the "Join? Yes/No" popup.

It doesn't even kill you one shot either, at least it didn't for me. He was tough, but once I figured out how to dodge, he wasn't all that hard.

ooooh, okay. Is it that
long bridge where there are archers firing at you as you approach the far side, where there's also a fog gate
? For some reason I thought it was something else.

I loved that fight because the first couple of times I thought "this is bullshit, not sure I'll be able to take this guy any time soon. he's just too tough when he hulks up" and then I got my rolls down better and did it. Mastered that fight and what I learned there helped my timing in other spots.

I mean the ground pound. If he hits you with the jump attack you get impaled to the ground. you don't have enough time to escape the explosion afterwards. That is the ONLY reason I ever died to him. Stupid camera sometimes makes it nigh impossible to see him for proper timing for the dodge, in particular close to a wall.

I still love him. Kind of a twisted love-hate thing. Sad that his armor is belly-free tho ._. looks so stupid.

Flash Sweat pyromancy + fire resistant armor + fire resistance ring + roll around in nearby vases that have water in them or the Pharros Lockstone water pool (I think the last item helps the most because you're covering yourself with water, you can skip one or maybe even two of the other components).
