Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Just finished it tonight. Total completion time was ~90 hours (with some areas/fights still missed).

Once I adjusted my attitude and playstyle to the game, I thoroughly enjoyed it. A few mechanical bugs that need cleaned up aside, I felt it to be a stronger game than DS1 in just about every way. It also helped that it had a strong Demon's Souls vibe going on as well.

Delving into NG+ now and oh boy are there some surprises

I'm at SL121 and left mine at 20 for now since that's the soft cap. You get 2 stamina per level until 20, and after that it's 1 per level.

But I'll muck around with this Agility business and if it's no good, I'll put more points into END instead.

why are people thinking of ADP as the iframe roll stat? it's pretty dumb to call the stat useless because it isn't what people suddenly decided it would be. It has a bunch of uses and people cant get passed the fact that it doesn't make your roll broken lol

Please tell me you also didn't put any points into VIT. Your weight affects your roll distance, and that is one of the largest factors in whether or not you get hit. Starting a new character to test rolls doesn't really matter when comparing it to an end game character unless they both have the same weight when geared. The video I posted shows what looks like a few hundred ms less recovery with actions, but recovery is not the problem when dodging in this game. Recovery doesn't dictate whether or not you actually avoided a hit unless you're trying to dodge again as soon as you recovered from your previous. More often than not the issue in this game lies with the first dodge being smacked when it shouldn't have been.

Well what was your equip burden? I've noticed that I can roll farther when my equip burden is under 30% which makes a difference as to whether you get at the end of the roll. I think leveling ADP to 38 is excessive. I really don't think anyone will need more than 95 or 100 agility. My dex/int build is at 95 agility and I couldn't imagine putting anymore since I dodge everything really well and that's with not being anywhere near 30% equip load.

Ya you get like a foot or so for every 25% or so it seems.
 
Please tell me invaders arent so friendly in 2. I remember Demon's Souls, an invasion meant kill or be killed / The most dangerous game type situation.

Playing Dark Souls 1 PC, i've got invaders trying to fight fairly or throw extra items at me. Whats up with that?

Yep. Being lighter matters more in this game than anything when trying to dodge. If you're wearing heavy armor, you may as well just use a tower shield.

invaders aren't all that common in dark souls 2, but there are ways to make it common.

Hey, I 2-hand with full elite knight armor and am at 24.7%. Don't knock heavy armor*.

Edit: On the subject of agility, I find it weird that the stat for it is described: "Boosts the ease of evasion and other actions" in the in-game help menu if it does nothing for evasion. I feel as though the difference lies in the gap between rolls.

yeah ADP was a giant ponzi scam. all the youtube tests show the difference between 10 ADP and 40 is neglible, so not worth when thats 30 levels. even if you have levels to throw away you're better off putting it into vigor, because thats like 600 hp (i know most souls guys hate putting stuff into health but w/e)

i beat the game at 13 ADP and after about 10 hours i was totally fine and used to the slower estus flask chug

PvP players swear by VIT (now VIG). It's PvE where VIG doesn't matter nearly as much. Now it's like the difference between having 1/3 of your health left after a single boss swing, and 1/4th. In either case, you're dead if you get hit again.

Got invaded once in 50+ hours, spent 90% of that time human.

Invasions are constant in the Belfries but those places are irregular for obvious reasons - not the sort of places you want to go to duel.

Really? It was always the first thing I levelled up. The difference between being 2 shotted instead of 1-shotted, or 3-shotted instead of 2, is incredibly important.

You still get invaded hollow. I was derping around full hollow at one point and that's when I got my second unwelcomed invader.
 
I'm going to drop my ADP to 20 and see how things go. I've also never been under 50% equip weight the entire time I've played, does that really make a huge difference?

Well, I'll give Bed of Chaos that, artistic design wise she was pretty cool too. Too bad everything else sucked.

I don't know how you were meant to kill CD, the only way I found was pelting him with arrows.

As far as BoC goes I never got the hate for it. Killed it on my first try, thought it was disappointingly easy.

And the method to kill him by
making him attempt a chasm jump when chasing you and then hitting his hand a few times till he fell was hilarious. Such an off-kilter way to kill a boss.

I was using that helm with Llewellyn chest and gauntlets for a decent while, until I got (end game gear spoiler)
Vendrick's helm. Can't resist putting a sweet crown on my character, plus it obscures less of his face.
I'm not a fan of how a lot of helms cover up your face and head, though some look cool. A hide-helm option would be neat when you have a helm with good stats that you don't think looks great.

That's one of the shittiest tests imaginable. Those knights were the first indicators that something was horribly off with the hitboxes (while Smelter just reinforced it). You don't even need to be dodging to get a similar effect as what's being shown in that video. You can raise a shield and circle strafe. When repeating the exact same pattern, one of two things will happen when those knights do their vertical slashes. The sword will either phase entirely through your body during the second slash, or it will bounce off of your shield.

That video even demonstrates that with 93 AGI you can get hit by their horizontal swing when trying to dodge. Yet, you can also dodge those with base ATT and ADP. The uploader even states that they were not doing frame perfect rolls with every character.

The video creator also noted this in the comments:

"I didn't particularly feel like uploading the hour long footage of rolling into that knight across those 4 characters. These results were consistent, the timing required roll into the knight's sword with 85 AGL was so tight I only pulled it off twice. It was also possible to roll through the 3rd strike at 93 and 98 AGL but again, the timing was different.

The point of the test was to use the same (albeit not perfect, I'm not a machine) timing to see if there was a difference and there clearly was. This wasn't a frame test, I made that perfectly clear right at the start.

The arrow test was also consistent. If I tried to use the same timing 109 AGL uses on the 85 AGL character and I got hit every time. Instead I had to roll when the arrow got closer.

He also states:

At low AGL you want to focus on tanking and rolling AWAY from attacks and at higher AGL you're able to roll INTO most attacks. If you have some Soul Vessels lying around I suggest using them to find which threshold suits you the most.

I found that rolling into attacks from the very start was the way to go. It always caused me to be hit less than if I was trying to dodge to the side or away.
At the very least (whether or not you actually believe in the effect of agility), he says that there's no real benefit going beyond 20 ADP.

Iron Keep.
Enemy can drop: Alonis knight armor set can carry you to endgame with cheap +upgrade.
Katana for dex user.

Unlock Large Titantic shards for upgrading your stuff.
A LOT of black knight weapons if you have pharos stone for hidden wall.
Overall a great place to gear up your character with new weapon/armor.

Option 1.
You get the dull ember there needed to make the 2nd blacksmith a shopkeeper that infuses shit for you and lets you buy infini large titanite shards

If you're planning on doing pvp at all more vigor. Actually, more vigor period, you'll get one shotted by a lot of bosses at 11. All I can say as I have no idea what your playstyle is.

Iron Keep
. I want to infuse my mace with lightning, but I don't have a boltstone. Whats the easiest way to acquire one at this point?

Small white soapstone->Get smooth and silky stones->Bring them to the nest->????->Profit.
 
I would say the ones I've seen so far are fine - they can't all be Sif,Gaping dragon, or Ornstein/Smough. Seem to be a lot more 8 foot-ish vaguely human looking ones though.

Boss arenas seem to have taken a bit of a dive though.

Buy one from the blue sentinel's covenant guy


Just pvp'ed on the bridge quite a bit. Lot of people using that spin to win polearm. I feel bad kinda using my weapon too since it has that one special attack.. but i rarely use it unless i'm up against some magic spamming ass.

Sword kills these people in two hits.

From the Blue Cathedral guy.
Join the Blue covenant, and then buy boltstone for 7k soul, abandon it if you want to.
