PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | March 2014

I'll recommend StramWorld Dig too. It's an interesting cycle which doesn't sound fun but actually is really fun. Dig, dig, dig, get upgrades to dig faster and dig some more. Game doesn't overstay it's welcome either which is nice. Finished it in about 5 hours. 5 times as long as metal gear. :p.

Plus it is cross buy and looks great on vita. I'll probably play it again on the portable.

But dem grafix tho

I was tempted to remote play infamous but decided I wanted to enjoy those 1080p graphics on my 65" TV.

Maybe when I'm just collectible hunting I'll do it.

But dat OLED bro.

In this game RP would be perfect, since it's already 30 fps. Does the games with RP cuts from 60 to 30 fps give some in-put lag problems?

I need something reignite my gaming passion

for those undergrads/college vitamuffins, how are you guys funding your gaming hobbies

I don't buy food. I cook them at home and bring them with me or just eat a lot at home and skip lunch or dinner.

I sometimes hitch a ride from my friends so I can save the commute money. Otherwise, skimp on gas.

I also don't go out much unless there's an event or something. Maybe a bar once a week and I make sure I spend the minimun amount.

If all else fails, replay games.

Meh, I'm not much of a graphics whore to be honest. It looks great on Vita regardless. The convenience makes me rather play it on Vita. The only bad thing about it is it's a bit difficult to read the small writing on the upgrades descriptions. But that's not really a big deal.

This might not necessarily be the best thread for this but since it's the closest thing to VitaGAF I'll do it anyway.

Do any UK guys reckon that the OLED Vita will still be available come the summer? I picked up a PS4 in January and wanted to wait until I built up some kind of collection through PS+ before possibly taking the plunge on a Vita. Plus it allows me to set some money aside for it too.

However, with the slim out now obviously the original will start to be phased out and I'm not sure that I'm all that interested in the LCD model.

Is there no thread about the EU Vita indie sale? Searched but no luck.
Thinking about picking up some of the cheap games, I assume they're not amazing but maybe good timewasters for the price... are any of these worth playing?

Burn the Rope
SunFlowers
Fort Defense
Die!Die!Die!
Alien Breed

Also tempted by Divekick, Worms and Angry Birds for a few quid each.

Wow... just wow.

I haven't
finished their Hyakka Ryoran ye since they're too strongt
, but after finally getting Daidouji/Rin DLC for Shinovi Versus. I gotta say they did things the wrong way.

Final Battle (最後決戦)should have NOT been about Asuka and Homura. Yeah, they got the whole rivalry thing going on, but after going through all three schools (and one runaway group lol) it had always felt like they were shoving Asuka and Homura down my throat. "Hey, we've added 10 new characters, but the mainest of mainest of main character is still these two!!!!!!!"

Final Battle should have been about
the whole Daidouji vs Rin battle
.

I don't care if it would have essentially made
the Final Battle a DLC-only thing
, but it's just effing more fitting. Especially with the whole uber long monologues.

In fact, it'd be better if they could have put the entire
I'll fight my student/underclassman before I go die in a fight to death
in there, too, and gave their Hyakka Ryoran something a bit more comedic like the rest.

Edit: Here, have some Katsuragi (from Dekamori)

Hey, what's the general consensus on Shadow Fall? I'm thinking of trading in NBA2K14 and getting a PS4 game. Picked up Second Son with my PS4 yesterday and really liked Mercenaries so I was thinking of giving Shadow Fall a shot. Plus GameStop is having the +30% when you trade in games thing going on right now.

Beautiful. But the worst SP shooter campaign I've ever played. Seriously. Get any other game.

Damn, that bad huh? I guess I'll just stick with SS for now and pick up something else later. Downloaded Warframe last night so hopefully that will fill my FPS itch for a while on the PS4.

Nah, it's not bad at all. The campaign is good if a little rough in spots (which they patched since launch). The multiplayer though is the reason to play the game, it's absolutely fantastic.

I'll probably come back to SF later, but I'm probably going to trade it in at Gamestop soon. Ground Zeroes worth the trade or save it for another game? I heard Thief was terrible.

Really? How many singleplayer shooters have you played? I'm only asking because I think this is either hyperbole or you're just lucky and haven't played any truly bad singleplayer shooters.

I think SP in Shadow Fall is okay. It starts off pretty good, but toward the latter half of the game they just through enemies at you. There are some interesting moments and ideas that keeps things a little fresh, but the story and characters are pretty bad.

I would rent it for the singleplayer and wouldn't touch the MP, it's dogshit boring.

Can you not download avatars to the PS3 anymore? I went on the store but I didn't see anywhere that it would be filed.
They're there but they're tucked away in a small corner of the store. I'm not near my system at the moment or I'd walk you through the menus. I checked them last time I was home.

You have to scroll all the way to the right and hit the end of the ads on one of the menu selections and then there will be a couple icons for avatars and themes.

Yep. It's well hidden.

I saw the edit lol. I still can't fathom why I can't change my avatar on the Vita or the PS4 for that matter.

Haha yeah. It's still early for me. I haven't totally woken up. Totally misread the post. Still extremely annoying though, especially since the PS4 won't allow me to publicly display my Facebook avatar.

I'm still in shock over the PS4 only having the same default avatars as the PS3. It's just avatars, but still...what the hell, Sony. I'm sure they'll fix it eventually but it's such a simple thing that should have been done before launch.

On a different note, just bought Deadly Premonition. Half price thanks to that $10 credit. Pretty excited to experience it's weirdness.

Burn the Rope

Alien Breed

I haven't seen a thread about them.

Angry Birds is probably the best out of this list, and that's not meant in a bad way. I never played Angry Birds before, I took my chance with the Trilogy yesterday. It felt addictive right from the start. It seems to have quite a lot of content too. For 3.20 pounds, it's definitely worth it!

SunFlowers is a fun little time waster. I got that one day 1. It's not special, but it's pretty good.

Alien Breed was a game I got on sale (you're talking about the 2D one that is also on PSM, right?). It's not too bad, but was too repetitive and took too long to beat all the different modes. Not sure if it was worth playing through all of it alone, but it's not a broken game or a bad one.

Burn the Rope looks boring judging by the videos. I was considering getting it too but it looked a bit pointless. Some impressions from people who own it are definitely welcome.

And...I got Shadow Fall. Only had to pay $25 for it so it seemed like a decent idea.

You'll beat every mission in GZ in under a day. Wait till it's $10 used. Everyone I know that has played the new Thief has said it's terrible, so I'd skip if I were you.

Don't listen to this guy. Shadowfall is by far the best next-gen shooter. The multiplayer is incredible and the single player is enjoyable.

I don't think it's terrible at all, but it's a rental for sure.

Truth. Doesn't mean much, though.

It's hard in the right way (not cheap), with a good story, much more if you played the previous games since it's pretty different in its stance, and best of all, it dares to do its own thing in terms of rythm and structure. That some people found its levels confusing is maybe the best endorsement around. Also: best balance in SP/MP quality and unmatched graphics. Some stuff in the later levels is unbelievable in a launch title.

On the downside, it has the worst gunplay between the big shooters on the market. Enemy response to fire is laggy, and they're far too much of a bullet sponge. Even headshots aren't satisfying. I honestly think this is THE problem with KZ right now.

Still, buy it.

I hope you like it. Just one tip, use the owl and use adrenaline packs actively. The latter is invaluable... if you're at half life in the middle of combat, the adrenaline pack will not only heal you, but slow time for a bit as well. Most people I've seen that "hate" the game simply forget about these two mechanics and die over and over.

Burn the Rope

Fort Defense
Die!Die!Die!
Alien Breed

Angry Birds is pretty well made -- if you can get it for cheap, it's worth it.

Worms is...Worms. It doesn't look very nice, but apart from that it's exactly what you'd expect.

Divekick is amazing, though some people dismiss it as a joke game. If you want a fighting game that's 100% about reflexes, it's worth it.

Burn The Rope is probably better than the smartphone versions (or, at least, better than the iOS version I played years ago), since you can turn the item on screen around instead of your phone. If it's cheap, and you haven't played it before, it's worth it.

SunFlowers is really addictive. Definitely one of the best casual games on the Vita.

Fort Defense is meh. It's your standard tower defense game. It's also pretty short, so you're not getting a tonne of content.

Alien Breed seems okay. I've only played it once or twice, but from my limited exposure, it seems like a fun twin-stick shooter.

Die!Die!Die! might be the worst game on the Vita. It's painfully boring and repetitive. Don't buy it under any circumstances.

Buy Divekick asap. Amazing game. Purely in terms of gameplay it's my favourite fighting game ever. Really good core mechanics that are really easy to understand quickly but have depth as well. It's so refreshing to have a fighting game that understands that depth doesn't have to come from complexity. The single player is terrible though, even by fighting game standards. Also it's dead online. Buy it if you've got someone to play with it's a must buy.

Do we know if Borderlands 2 Vita has cross-play yet? I'd buy it day one if my roommates and I were all able to play in the same game across PS3 and Vita.

you son of a bitch :<
Love it.
Definitely. Second Son is the first time I actually feel glad that I own a PS4 (outside of that shiny new box launch period)

The game is beautiful and beats the crap out of the older Infamous games.
Sucker Punch has just improved on inFamous in every aspect, again. I haven't actually read any reviews but as far as I'm concerned the game mechanics and controls themselves are unique to this game.
Why is there such a huge delay when taking picture shots with the share button?
They probably made it do it stupid. I'm surprised it doesn't capture right from the frame buffer or something.
And...I got Shadow Fall. Only had to pay $25 for it so it seemed like a decent idea.
Shadowfall for $25 is what I'd buy it at. And I got it for free, so I'd know =P
I forgot my password for psn and my email that is linked to it is closed., Anyone know if i can do anything?
You're most likely screwed. Call Sony though. They'll probably only need your birthday.

Joystiq is confusing Cross-Save for Cross-Play. It sounds like Cross-Play won't be in BL2 Vita.

Outside of the PS3 port of Symphonia, I don't believe any of the PS2 (or PS1) Tales games are on PSN.

Oh, shouldn't Joystiq update their article if they have incorrect information?

And thanks. I was itching for some Tales for some reason. Maybe I'll just finish the F part of Graces.

I don't really spend my money on anything else.

Games, gas, food.

Mike Bithell is a cool dude. I believe he once said something along the lines of "I told myself at the beginning that if I'm gonna be successful I have to be loud. Never stop talking." and it's really seemed to work for him. Good thing he's likable. That's why it's Mike Bithells Thomas Was Alone. And Mike Bithells Volume.

I agree with him. The first 3 or 4 levels are some of the worst single player levels I've ever played. The sheer boredom of it all. My god, that forest level still haunts me.

I'm the exact opposite. The first half of the game was great. It was when the game settled into the regular "corridor-ness" that the game became very by the books.
