Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I'd explain why I feel like that sort of logic applies, but I'm not really fond of gut reactions akin to "you're just making shit up".

Of course nobody knows what the final roster will be, I don't like the implication I'm lying/implying undeniable truths just giving my opinion. It makes me feel extremely uncomfortable.

Again, apologies. I never claimed you were lying. I'm just not a fan of seeing patterns that aren't really there. Not my intention to make anybody feel uncomfortable.

Ganondorf wouldn't have made it to Melee if he weren't a clone, that was specifically said in the Melee Japanese site. So, being a clone does matter to some extent.

Of course, in the case of Melee Ganondorf, he was actually reusing most of Captain Falcon's animations, not just had a similar moveset, like in Brawl. So, you have to differentiate between characters that just have similar movesets and actually reusing the skeleton and most animations of another character. The first isn't very different from a completely original character, but the second certainly takes less development time.

Sakurai usually seems to include transformations in his character counts. So, Zelda would have 3 unique characters by his count.

That's really interesting. I've always hoped he'd ditch OoT Ganondorf and we'd get LttP Pig Ganon, trident and all.

Was talking to my friends yesterday and I brought up the idea of Takumaru being a character in Smash. If so, he would probably be our "nostalgic surprise", as we haven't really seen him since the original Nazo no Murasame, although he's made a brief appearance as a cameo character in Samurai Warriors 3 and his game appearing in Nintendo Land. I think he would have a good moveset, considering he's a samurai, and could possibly have a "patient" technical playstyle- meaning he would counter and strike when appropriate.

Honestly it had nothing to do with Medusa being female, it's that skeleton-wise she's an easy fit for Palutena. Similar body type + staff user.

sure you could make Hades a pseudo-clone of Palutena, but it isn't a natural fit.

By that logic Waluigi could've been a peach clone, y'know? I don't think there's any smash clones/pseudo-clones that stray too far from the source character in body type or design.

I don't see how that implies a pattern that isn't there, Hades wouldn't be a natural fit as a clone for pretty much anyone, unless we're gonna get Ganondorf Mach 3.

Unless you're referring to pseudo-clones having "less roster value" than original characters. I'm basing that specifically off of seemingly minor franchises, specifically star fox, getting 3 playable characters.
I don't think anyone would argue star fox would ever qualify to having 3 completely unique gameplay styles in smash.

(and of course as mentioned above, I presume it's common knowledge that most melee clones outright wouldn't have made it in if they weren't clones. In contrast to a character like Wario who was partly left out cause Sakurai stated he "deserved better" than being a clone.)

Is it a stretch to assume that? I honestly don't see why it would be.

No, I totally agree. Especially about Star-Fox; SF is the reason I don't think it completely ridiculous for Kid Icarus to get 3 reps, especially when there's so many good characters in the recent game to take from. And there'd be nothing wrong with Medusa, it's just that Hades is such a cool villain!

I had a dream Kid Icarus: Uprising HD was announced for Wii U last night actually...

In that case I'm really confused what part of my post you considered made up..

Like I fully understand you liking Hades more than Medusa, that's fine. Hades is cool. But if you agree with the stuff I just said I have no idea what made you react that way to my initial post x_x;

Would buy.

So out of the recurring characters, the ones that are single representatives of their respective series are Captain Falcon, Samus, Pit, Olimar, Ice Climbers, Sonic and (assuming they return) Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B and Snake.

Technically we could get a Samurai Gorro or a Grey Fox or Palutena or Tails, instead of Ridley/Kraid/Mother Brain..

Are there any new characters from Pikmin, Ice Climbers, Game & Watch or Gyromite that could make an appearance?

Edit: has anyone considered the possibility of playable Space Pirates or some other normal sized recurring Metroid character?

I think I misunderstood your initial point, shall we leave it at that? :)

But yeah I hope Sakurai sticks to his denying a Uprising 2 like he stuck to not working on the Smash series...

Ice Bear for playable character!

Ice Bear for playable character!

That has to be one of my least favourite Pokémon designs. The ice beard looks naff, the tiny head looks naff and the fact it evolves from a quite nice looking Pokémon only adds insult to injury. It's such a shame when you evolve a 'mon only to have to store them on the PC because they evolved into a hideous creature. Barbaracle is a more recent example of this. Binacle was a cool bongo drum hand thing looking barnacle Pokémon. Its evolved form on the other hand was hideous beyond words.

Don't you go talking shit about Barbaracle,

I'm confused, isn't Barbaracle one of the best pokemon designs in history?

Are you somehow confusing it with something else?

Look, I had a cool tribal drum looking Pokémon and when it evolved it didn't carry on the tribal drum look. That lead to disappointment beyond words.

That and it looks ugly.

You just have to accept that such an impact will lead to people forming negative feelings for it.

I'm... I'm honestly not seeing tribal drums from Binacle.
Really? You have to remember I saw them ingame first where their heads look flat like the top of a drum. Rather than hollow with a red round bit inside like the art suggests. The zigzag is reminiscent to the way the string that holds the drum together forms a pattern on the rim of the top. Their bodies of course are like the long stalk many tribal drums have and the claws can be seen as a fancy decoration like feathers. The curve of their claws is far less obvious compared to the art so they look far less hand like ingame.

Buh... How has there not been a wildly successful pokemon clone with far better creature designs?
Because even at its worst Pokémon designs are still much better than most other Pokémon clones.

Also it's not just about the critters. You need an appealing game for them to appear in too.

Yep, for every beartic there are bunches of Pokemon for you to love. No matter what you aesthetic tastes are, wide variety.

And the game being good doesn't hurt either. Pokemon is very long and odd social artistic experiment.

But the bigger question is, how does one become gaf king.

Kid Icarus

I have a same feeling as you did about Medusa. I strongly believe that Medusa would have a good chance to be in game due to the fact Medusa and Palutena shared same skeleton and weapon so I can see that it would be somewhat easier to adjust the move set. I'm still rooting for Palutena, Medusa or Hades to be in the game.

Don't forget that he appeared in Captain Rainbow as well.

I want a human character from Poke'mon as fighter. Not someone who uses a team to fight, someone that does the fighting himself. I mean yeah, the poke'mon are obviously the star attractions of their franchise but we got plenty of them in SSB already. At this stage I find myself less interested in which ones could be newcomers (even as part of a trainer's team) & more intrigued by the prospect of Sakurai going an unexpected route for new poke'series rep. There are after all a number of trainers throughout the series with some potential fighting ability themselves:

Any fighting type trainer-They all freaking know martial arts. Chuck even fought a poke'mon directly in the anime. Though I suspect Maylene would be the most popular one.
Crystal/Kris-Kicking expert in the manga, could use bike/fishing rod/Safari Zone rocks/other items as specials.
Team Rocket Grunt-Had a whip in gen 1. Could use elaborate weapons & gadgets.
Lt. Surge-War veteran who has in all likelihood killed humans & poke'mon alike. Could be Snake replacement.
Sabrina-Psychic powers, whip in gen 1.
HGSS Misty-Athletic due to swimming habit, could have much of Crystal's moveset. 1 of the few human characters to have appeared in SSB before (otherwise I wouldn't have listed her)

Sabrina will replace Mewtwo, there I said it.

I'd be so down for Blaziken. Mega Evolve for full charged Smashes and it's final Smash would be Speed Boost where it runs around in Mega form fucking shit up with P:M Turbo Mode attributes.

The Gym Leader with Pokemon as stands idea also sounds amazing as fuck.
