How many
Giant Souls
do you have in your inventory?

I have 4 of them, so I am doing alright damage (~200 dmg/hit). The fight is not taking too long when I get going, but it's always this little fuck-up that ruins everything. Doesn't help that the way to get to him is quite annoying, rushing past all those enemies.

Do it. For every win you get you are awarded a titanite chunk, and at the 20 kill devotion mark you are awarded a
titanite slab
!

Its way better than farming from a finite supply of enemies, and half the time when I am summoned to their world they are already dead. Free chunks yo.

I may later, but I am having pretty good success farming the Gulch for now. Easy pickings after you take care of the statues, as they don't respawn when using the bonfire. I might even use an ascetic here.

OH LAWD Smelter Demon is sending my ass back to bonfire time and time again. Tips for a STR build?

I used the Drangleic Sword +1 and a Gyrm Greatshield +7. If you've got the strength for the latter, it's amazing. It blocks 100% physical and fire damage as well. Also, make sure you've got that ring that ups your fire resistance. Flash Sweat pyromancy helps tremendously as well.

During the fight, keep doing the circle-strafing counter-clockwise, and only do two normal attacks or one strong attack before backing off. With that shield, you shouldn't be taking any damage from his normal stuff. When he jumps up and stabs the sword into the ground, back off. He doesn't always send off a heat blast, but he usually will. Use the few seconds here to back off and heal. Or re-cast Flash Sweat pyromancy.

So I accidentally purchased this game on the Xbox marketplace. I have 0 idea what this series is about and I haven't seen any gameplay. Any tips or anything before I start it?

Do you angry easily? If the answer is yes, then it might be the worst accident ever.

Are you a masochist? If the answer is yes, then it might be the best accident ever. Also, I'll leave this here for you:

A bunch of areas further in the game. When you reach the Iron Keep you will be around Belfry Sol.

More to the point, you go through Iron Keep until you get to the two iron knights with clubs over the lava pit. Just after that, make a left immediately after the short, narrow hallway and that'll take you to Belfry Sol.

Holy crap just had the most bad a** souls moment ever. So I have been progressing steadily with my new character, trying out
the pursuer
here and there and getting my butt handed to me. So I upgrade to lvl 28 and decide I want to give him a few tries... Get butt kicked handily again. I think of new weapons I can try out and realize I can dual wield power stance my mace and my club. Thinking I have no shot without a shield I thought I would give it a try. I freaking beat the crap out of that jerk with my clubs. He only got two attempts on me because I just kept staggering him with my L2 dual power move. My clubs were unstoppable. One of best feelings ever when I smacked the crap out of him. I freaking love this game.

Man I wonder what From what thinking with the first bonfire in S
inner's Rise. Whenever you teleport there or just spawn to the bonfire, you have like 3 crossbow dude aggro on you immediately. It's a pain in NG+ when they actually kinda hurt >.>
.

He appears in your first game, I know because I used him to rank up the bell keepers covenant. You may have to be part of that covenant and be wearing the ring for him to appear, but I'm not sure on that. I know when I was farming him that is what I was doing though. I also didn't power up the bonfire or anything like that. Just normal first game, in the covenant, and with the ring on.

How i did it:

Either burn a Bonfire Ascetic on NG, or just play NG+. He's a rare enemy and you need to constantly rest at the bonfire until he spawns, good news is that his respawn is infinite. You don't need to be in the BK covenant but i'm not 100% sure about it.

You need to be part of the bell covenant for him to spawn. Nothing else but luck needed. NG+ not needed.

Thx... but how many times did you kill him?

I just spent the last hour and a half famring him, I've killed him like 20 times and he has dropped items twice (one time the legs and one time the chest).

I'm using the jesters cap and something serpent ring +1 to get higher drop chance :S

I use Rusted Coins as well for good measure, I killed him maybe 15 times, and got 2 drops (Berserker blade, Mad Warrior legging).

I'm missing one bonfire in the Forest of Fallen Giants and it's annoying me that I can't find it. I have the first one, the cathedral one, and the
Kings Ring
one. I even have the strategy guide and the guide acts like it doesn't exist.

Wow at
The Rotten
. And people were thinking this game might be less dark because of the T rating lol.

Also getting Demon's Souls vibes from his boss music.

So I'm 30 hours in and just reached Iron Keep. This game really is a masterpiece. I'm already starting to prefer this game to the first one, although I absolutely love the first game. The world is so massive and the areas are varied and well put together.

Go down the ladder from the second bonfire. Enter the room that leads to big tree root and go right and there will be a door. This will lead to a small area with a bonfire. This area seems pointless at first but it has a
Giant Soul.

I have a question. If I use a bonfire acetic in Majula will it respawn the Soul Vessel?

In 16 hours, I have never been invaded.

What am I missing here? :(

Yeah the only time I've been invaded by a red phantom was when I went back to
McDuff
to drop off the
ember
.

I did summon a red phantom once in the Belfry and he helped me kill a couple of grey phantoms before we had our duel. Was completely shocked he didn't take the backstab he could have had on me when I was fighting the first grey phantom.

FROM seemed to have tried to minimize the early game grief squad by reducing the red eye orbs you can get early, having no way to get max gear until later in the game, and matching players with similar sous memories...I f you dont have a few hundred thousand souls, and are not SL75 or so you prolly wont get too much aciton. I wasnt invaded much in ealry game although there were a couple and it was a the wrong time..lost 30k trying to recover my bloodstain once in the forest just before bonfire! I have been invaded a lot in the
copse
,
earthen
peak, and
bastille
, but I am level 80 and have over a million souls mostly from co-op. I poorly handled my upgraded thinking I would eventually get more large shards and chunks, but I have beat half the game looking for shards and only found enough chunks to get one weapon to +8.
Any way to avoid getting
summoned as a gray spirit
in
Grave of Saints?
getting quite annoying, and I don't want to go offline.
You could burn an effigy. But I went in there and luckily beat the first "host" that summoned me, then nothing. I beat the boss joined the covenant myself and now have unlimited lock stones. Its a troll for sure, but rather be the troll than the trolled and all it takes is ONE win to get a rat tail then give it to rat king and its over. Unlike bell where you could beat all the invaders in teh world, get nothing, and still get pummelled again and again. The rats dont even attack you once you join unlike thiose annoying puppet midgets. PLus when an invader comes at you, they kill your rats and they drop good stuff. Old radiant gems, even spells, I got the warmth heal pyro from a rat drop, still haven't seen this pyro anywhere else. Rat King is the best covenant so far for me and joined all so far but sunbros and blue sentinels (pointless).
How am I supposed to get past illusory walls? There's a message with a high rating saying it's illusory.
troll is common, even with votes, press x to win! or A on 360.

I gotta say guys, had one of my best sessions in souls last night. Finally got the
ember
for the blacksmith in the
Bastille
, and since I helped others on
sentinels
and got destroyed, I was saving them for when I could get upgraded a bit. Despite being a rather average skilled player, I really enjoy the challenge of soloing so I tried a couple times just to get a feel for them solo, then went all in two handing Heidi sword +8 with no faith boost for the lightning (stupid I know). My strat was to stay on the ledge but of course I got knocked off, then had to do 2 on 1. I was doing great but then ran out of estus and had difficulty switching to gems while the last
sentinel
had only a sliver of health...almost pulled a Jeff Green and died with the last boss at a sliver, but finally got the gem and survived....felt great. I promptly used my Souls intuition to find hidden paths without messages in the boss room as there was an item I could not reach. Then, when normally I get pummeled in PVP, I got invaded by a red and killed him with 40K souls and humanity to protect, and then fought off one duo of invaders in the bellfry, then later another set came and I killed the first but not the second.

All in all one of the most intense and fun sessions I have played and it was recorded here.

The argument could be made that this game is simultaneously easier than/harder than Dark Souls 1.

+Stronger enemies
+More ambushes
+More traps
+Greater vulnerability to poison and the like
+No drake sword for easy walkthrough of early areas (or I haven't encountered any thus far).

-More slots for rings and weapons
-Enemies no longer respawn after being killed a certain number of times
-Leveling up seems to be easier.

Edited for more clarity.

Some people might call that balance. By the time enemies disappear you're just running to the boss over and over again without a care for souls.

So I finished the SunBro covenant and wanted to try out the Blue Sentinels, but I'm not being summoned with the Guardian's Seal at all. Do I have to be in a certain area for it to work? I even tried invading a world of the guilty but it always says it can't find one to invade.

I finding the same thing. I haven't tried it yet but you can duel with people at the cathedral to boost.

Thanks just got it. There was a whole pretty big area that I didn't even know existed.

Never managed to get summoned as a sentinel or have ever seen a sentinel summoned in another game. Both the blue covenants should have been combined into one IMO.

It took me about three hours with a serpent ring +1 to farm his sword + leggings/chest/gauntlets. I don't think I'll ever do anything so tedious again, but I started it and I didn't want to let the effort go to waste (was trying to get his sword).

I'm surprised at all the hate S

?

I don't know if anyone would consider this a spoiler, but from the initial reveal trailer
are those white teardrop facemask guys anywhere in the game, and I just missed them and/or didn't recognize them? I kept expecting them to pop up somewhere around Drangleic Castle out in the rain.

Some of these bosses are ridiculous for casters. I'm stuck at the Doors of Pharros boss,
Royal Rat Authority
. The moment I get in, I get jumped on by the damn
rats
and killed right away. I really need an AoE spell for them.

Anyway, he did it maybe twice the entire battle. On the youtube videos people have been put out, he does it way more often and I don't know why. I won't say this 100% since it's just been an observation rather than a test, but it felt like if you're under him and standing pretty still, he's waaay less likely to do that AoE vs. one of the other two attacks. The normal attacks were the foot stomp and the under-belly-breath thing, which are both much easier to dodge.
Wow only twice? He spams the shit out of that attack every time I fight him. Wow.

Look, 5 INT or FA = 5 SL. Instead of wearing that ring, you could wear another that gives you more health than 5 SL worth if you're going to be raising your health anyway and just raise your INT or FA by 5 instead.
Like I said though, I'll need to recheck the actual gains on that ring. I'm 99% sure I gained more than 70 hp from it. It was closer to 300.
The life ring+2 does give a lot more than 70 HP. I just checked and I get about +250 HP with it.
I gave it another 20 minutes, but eventually one of the aoes just get me. I am usually fine with stuff like this, but this particular fight just peeves me. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong, since I do the exact same pattern every time yet occasionally get different results.
Exactly the same problem I have. Like, identical. I feel your pain.

I think 5 failed tries vs the Smelter Demon have convinced me to put this shit up on eBay. I'm done. I loved Demons, and DS1, that will just have to be enough.
Whaaaa? 5 tries makes you RQ? lol, did you play the other games with a guide or something... 5 attempts is nothing.

Isn't Firestorm good for that fight?

I tried the ascetic in Majula to see if the vendors sell limited items again (they don't). well, what I've noticed is, that items on corpses and wooden boxes reappear. the ones in metallic boxes don't and things that need to be triggered either (the corpse in the well). ooh, haven't tried to go down the big hole again, maybe those are back too!

I was using a greatsword during that fight and would shoot an arrow to pull them all over and luckily each time they'd bunch up enough to one hit them all with a single swing and if not with the follow swing.

Should have given them a soapstone to use or something like the Sunbro covenant and have it change the color of your white one.

Don't forget the brutal HP reduction penalty for dying. But I agree that leveling up is a lot easier. There are more enemies who give a lot of souls earlier in the game. Also, and probably most importantly, I think the way humanity is handled is much better. Makes taking on bosses a lot easier (even though the bosses are still brutal).

Thinking about using my Soul Vessel to re-set my levelling.

Is adaptability any good? Haven't spent a single point at it, and don't think it will make that much of a difference, but... we never know. Also, does Pyromancy casting time become faster with Dexterity as it did in Dark Souls?

Argh! 1 One hit would've killed the
Spider boss
. This is a pretty interesting area, easy to get lost in with all the rooms.

Is there a boss in The
Gutter
? I see at least one item I can't seem to find a way over to, so I know there's some of the area I haven't explored yet. I have lit 2 bonfires and have killed the boss of
the Black Gulch
.

Once you get the ring, the HP reduction means nothing. In fact the only time I used a human effigy was to see my character model since I'd forgotten what it looked like. Think I have at least 35 effigies with nothing to use them for.

That reminds me, I got cursed while hollow and I ended up with 100% lifebar. Seems like a good thing, lol!

Oh man, I just know I pissed somebody off. I must have been down to 1 hp as a blue phantom and I still managed to come back and take away a third of their life to kill the guy I was serving justice on.

I definitely think that with the exception of the Ancient Dragon, Dark Souls 2 is mostly easier. Also I don't really see there being more traps or stronger enemies. The actual design of a lot of the game was simple enough that I beat a lot of areas and bosses on my first try, which is something I didn't even manage to do in my second runthrough of DaS consistently.

Been messing around a bunch today, haven't really gotten a lot of progress done yet but been having fun.

I got invaded for the first time in the
Shrine of Amana
. Had a pretty neat PvP duel and since it happened right at the start I didn't feel too bad about losing. Also that area isn't nearly as bad as I was expecting considering what people have said about it.

Also started up trying to get some Bell Covenant work done in
Belfry Sol
. As I was clearing the area I got summoned right as I got hit by a bunch of arrows, so I was summoned to fight with basically 1 HP left. I stood on top of the tower and just spammed throwing the "I'm Sorry" carving until the guy found me and killed me. I had a laugh about it, hope he did too.

Raising ADP rasies the speed of drinking estus flask and using items, not roll speed.

That's vitality.

The description of AGL clearly says "Boosts ease of evasion" in the game itself. If it truly doesn't effect rolls that's a very poor description. I thought Dark Souls 2 was supposed to get rid of inaccurate descriptions like that.

It is one of my favorite places as well and I feel it is pretty much the equivalent of Ash Lake in terms of haunting beauty and atmosphere. I never even used a torch and could see the underwater ledges just fine. The entire area is really no worse than walking around where the hydra was in Dark Root Basin. It's just a lot larger and with a lot more places to fall, lol. Just take your time and it's a nice run through an amazing environment.
