PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | March 2014

  1. Fez (PS4/PS3/PSV) - Cross-buy on three platforms? Damn straight. Anyway, this is the classic 2D-but-actually-3D platforming indy game from the controversial designer Phil Fish. (Hopefully this one won't include a dire game save bug, right?) Exclusive originally on the Xbox 360 back in April 2012, it later came to Windows and then GNU/Linux in 2013. Now, two years after its original release, it's coming out on PlayStation platforms. The Xbox 360 version has a Metacritic score of 89, approximately the same as the Winows version, which has a score of 91. Digital-only. (Interested.)
  2. Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends (PS3) / Complete Edition (PS4/PSV) - This is an expansion of the original Dynasty Warriors 8 that was released back in 2013 on the PlayStation 3. The Complete Edition is for the PS4 and PSV, while Xtreme Legends vanilla is for the PS3. Anyway, the Dynasty Warriors games are beat-'em-up games based on the historical fiction novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The original DW8 (PS3/Xbox 360) had mediocre reviews, with a Metacritic score in the mid-60s. Digital and retail. (Not interested.)
  3. Deception IV: Blood Ties (PS3/PSV) - Evil Rube Goldberg simulation series that began on the PS1 as Tecmo's Deception: Invitation to Darkness back in 1996. You set up bizarre sequences of traps to kill intruders. The original was full of overwrought, bizarrely translated text, as I recall, so hopefully this will continue that tradition. Digital and retail. (Interested.)
  4. Destiny of Spirits (PSV) - This is a F2P turn-based strategy game designed by Q Entertainment and SCEJ exclusively for the PSV. It includes social features (like working together with other players in battles, and using a player's location to determine what spirits it can use in battle). You can use real-world cash to buy the ability to do advanced moves in battle. Digital-only. (So very not interested.)
  5. BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma (PS3) - Originally an arcade game, this 2D fighting game in the BlazBlue series came out in Japan for the PS3 back in October 2013, and is now being released in the West. Previous BlazBlue games came out on the Xbox 360 too, but this one is PlayStation-exclusive for the moment, with a PSV release scheduled later this year. There are seven new characters total for this game, five packaged with the game and two available as DLC. This appears to be retail-only, which strikes me as somewhat odd. Is that an Aksys thing or something? (Not interested.)
  6. Cabela’s Big Game Hunter: Pro Hunts (PS3) - Activision has long been pumping out hunting games with the Cabela's branding, and this is yet another in that series. This one promises to be four times larger than any previous Cabela's title, and includes various ways to virtually muder virtual animals. Also, you can get virtual advice from virtual reproductions of actual pro hunters like Jim Shockey, Wade Middleton, and Ralph & Vicki Cianciarulo. (Who?) Anyway, you can get this future classic in digital or retail form. (Not interested.)
  7. The Witch and the Hundred Knight (PS3) - This is a stage-based isometric-view action RPG from NIS that was originally slated for 2012 but didn't get released in Japan until mid-2013. Now it's coming out in the U.S. The story has something to do with Metallia, a marsh witch, who wishes to beat her rival, Maila the forest witch. I'm sure it's riveting. Digital and retail. (Not interested.)
  8. TNN Motorsports Hardcore TR (PS3/PSV/PSP) - Trucks. Blocky hardcore trucks. With a license for a TV station that hasn't existed for 14 years. Oy. Digital-only (Not interested.)

I'm the exact opposite. The first half of the game was great. It was when the game settled into the regular "corridor-ness" that the game became very by the books.

Love your beanie Mario, dude. It's great.

I don't really get it. Most people say Killzone story is quite shitty. There have been 4 homeconsole games and 2 handheld entries. Why haven't they hired a competent writter? I haven't played any of those games. I should buy KZ trilogy soon, since it's on Amazon for 25€

Done my part. Let's go to the top of the page! (No discussions between 50ppp peasants and 100ppp arrogant elitist this time xD)

Edit: It seems I was too late lol

Edit: Great post as always @jvm. If you have PS+ I think they gifted DW:Next. Give it a try. IMO the game doesn't really deserve a 60 on Metacritic at all. It may not be for everyone, but it's quite fun. More than it seems when you look at some videos at Youtube. I think I read there isn't any more enemy pop-in in the PS4 version (which is great) and that the PSV is playable after the patch.

It releases in Europe in April, right?

I really hope my account gets unlocked by Wednesday, there's two sales ending (GTA + UK Indie sale) that I really don't want to miss out on, not to mention the Steamworld discount!

so you look at numbers to decide if you're interested or not

Actually, yes, I do. The key ones are often prices! But I also take things into account like number of stars and number of reviewers when buying an item at Amazon. When I am marginally interested in a game, I'll often look at aggregated review scores -- or sometimes individual reviewers -- before making a choice. But it's all part of a constellation of data that I consider when making purchasing decisions. In these cases, I was researching the games and decided to make that part of the background I wanted to see and report.

Want to know the real truth? I sometimes buy things that most people don't like. It's true! I sometimes also buy things that lots of people like! My world is full of this kind of capriciousness.

Really, people. Is it necessary to be a bunch of passive-aggressive jerks in this thread? I mean, I try to add something and remain a part of the community here, despite my beloved weekly threads being gone. But I don't need this kind of nonsense.

I'm pretty sure beakshi is just screwing with you. This thread is full of personalities and running inside jokes that the people who are who do them probably mostly just assume everyone on the thread is in on. Though, beakshi, you are pretty aggressive, it's not attractive.

On that aside, I usually use metacritic to find the reviews of websites of trust. I try to grab at least 2 reviews from each green yellow red review.

Dynasty Warriors reviews are worthless. Most reviewers don't take the time to notice the changes or additions. Dynasty Warriors 8 is great and is the best installment in the franchise since the PS2 days.

Almost done with a normal playthrough of Ys. The optional boss, Forias-Daros was bullshit. Had to use Karna to even stand a chance. Didnt unlock the material gathering or treasure trophy yet. Goddammit, it was annoying enough getting 100% map completion

So SWD hooked me to the point I finished it in a single day. I think now I'll just go for all the secret areas, then someday I'll replay it and try to get the other trophies.

I heard that Spelunky and Terraria are similar - are they? If so, there are two more games that needs to be bought

That reminded me I've yet to buy it after the disappointing 7. Did they bring back the old mysou system (single bar for special attacks)?

Renbu combo system and fixed musou bars really killed the fun in playing the series for me. I just want to spam Taishi Ci's batons :(

I haven't played Steamworld Dig (some day) but I think they're both quite different.

Spelunky is a platformer with randomly generated levels and permadeath. As you play and die you'll learn how stuff works and what's best to do to progress further in the game. Hard but really addicting.

Terraria is a platformer-ish game with randomly generated worlds with a focus on resource gathering, exploration, crafting and building. I'd describe it as Minecraft + Metroid.

They both have demos, so try them. Both are excellent games.

we love you jvm! haha that's how i buy stuff too (not necessary metacritic but I do try to find out existing opinions, etc)

I came over from Xbox to PS4 and Vita. What's the go to number or e-mail at Sony when you have an issue?
Must have used that 1-800-4-myXbox number a dozen times.
My issue is my trophies no longer sync. I've been getting an error code for just over a week. It won't completely get to 100% and some hard earned trophies aren't showing up while some others will. >=(

Spelunky is nothing like Steamworld. The only similarity is the focus on getting treasure/loot. There's no Metroidvania aspect and no mining unless you find the mattock.

Terraria is similar in that it has similar mining for resources, but instead of trading them for $ and buying upgrades or finding them in your story progression, you craft things. You can build things, etc. I did think to myself that the mining aspect of SWD evoked memories of Terraria in a way.

Really? How many singleplayer shooters have you played? I'm only asking because I think this is either hyperbole or you're just lucky and haven't played any truly bad singleplayer shooters.

I think SP in Shadow Fall is okay. It starts off pretty good, but toward the latter half of the game they just through enemies at you. There are some interesting moments and ideas that keeps things a little fresh, but the story and characters are pretty bad.

I would rent it for the singleplayer and wouldn't touch the MP, it's dogshit boring.

Killzone SF's single player campaign is objectively the worst AAA game I've played in years. The tech powering the game and the art design are top notch. The game design is rock bottom. So many major things wrong with it, that have all been discussed to death.

This is probably a dumb question, but anyway:

I just bought a used PS3 today and it came with some digital games still on the system. Is there a way to transfer these games to my new account, or are they stuck on the guy's old account?

Do you guys think if the 64 gb card ever comes to north america it will cost more than $100?

It's about $100 to import from Japan, so I should hope not. But SCEA gonna SCEA... so who knows?

No. You can play them on the system, but if it ever gets formatted or removed from his account, you will lose access to those games.

I have a hard time it's worse than any of the Halo games I've experienced... I've liked all the Killzone campaigns I've played so far... just don't have a PS4 so I can't experience Crysiszone: SF.

That's pretty much the only posts that guy makes, ignore him.

This page has everything for North America, including a troubleshooting guide.

Can you not download avatars to the PS3 anymore? I went on the store but I didn't see anywhere that it would be filed.

https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-ca/all-ps3-avatars/cid=STORE-MSF77008-PS3ALLAVATARS

i had a problem with trophy notifications not popping up, might not be the same problem but I did a database rebuild and that fixed my problem.

Any information when the telltale adventures will hit PS4? It's too late for TWD since I already play on PC, but The Wolf Among Us on PS4 would be nice.

Do another trophy in that game will fix it. Had same issue trophy are shitty compared to achievments...Sony at least treats them this way.

What is the best Symphony of the Night to buy for Vita? The PS1 original?
I think most people say it comes down to what voices you want. The voices in the version buried in the PSP game Dracula X Chronicles are rerecordings, different from the original PS1.

Frankly, I'd rather buy the PS1 version on the PS Store because you can play it on the PSP, PS3, PSV, and (hopefully someday) the PS4.

Edit: Thanks for the support above guys (mrklaw, wilflare, coolasj19, impact). I was probably not in my most gracious mood, so I'll try to be better.

Renbu combo system and fixed musou bars really killed the fun in playing the series for me. I just want to spam Taishi Ci's batons :(

I skipped 7 because I heard it wasn't so good so I couldn't compare it. There are 3 bars in DW8, however you can enter a rage mode where you can continuously be in a musou attack until the bar empties. So in that way it is similar.

Dracula X Chronicles but you have to unlock it. It has an extra playable character. I say this even if I've played the PS1 version a million times. I don't get any nostalgia from the voices. Just go watch them on YouTube if it really bothers you.

Is Borderlands 2 the first native-res UE3 Vita game? Just wondering since MK9 and Injustice are my only experiences with the engine on Vita.

you guys couldnt be any more wrong, DW7 and 8 are probably some of the best dynasty warriors since dw3, hell just check jim sterling's reviews of the game, also Renbu was 6 and 6 is considered the worst DW. Also for some posts above, using metacritic for dynasty warriors is bad since reviewers go with the "LOL its the same, nothing new," when there are other games that dont change yet get better reviews. and no its not press Square to win as thats only easy mode :/
and here you go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDbb6OOSh7o this explains the whole issue that people have with reviewers on the dynasty warriors series
and here is a review for dw8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvDF-Hf-G18

Toto was just being Toto and criticized games Toto didn't like. Baekshi just posts annoying questions that Baekshi already knows the answers to.

I always switches around between Toto and Takao :(

Anyways............................................... still can't decideee between Luftrausers or Steamworld Digggggggg.

Or maybe I should just keep the 10 bucks.

Currently playing: Danganronpa, FFX/FFX-2 Vita.
