Aww yeah!

It showed they have no confidence in their own product to compete and were only willing to reach out to their own current fanbase, which already has a Wii U. When actually talked about in regards to E3 the average person only heard that "they didnt even bother to show up" Sony has treated the Vita the same way for two E3's, its quite obviously an approach that is not working for either company.
I hope this doesn't start a console flame war or something like that because that is not my intent at all with this statement. but why does Sony get praised for focusing on the "gamer" but when Nintendo does just that people suddenly care about the business side of things and whether or not they're reaching a "casual" audience. Nintendo Directs are for us. I personally don't care how a Direct is perceived by the non-enthusiast press because they're just that: non-enthusiasts. Nintendo held the best E3 that I can personally remember by the sheer fact that I got to go out and play demos of the games they showed off. it really seemed to me that they did everything last year the way they did it for those of us following along at home and seeing as how that's me I appreciated it.

I don't think Nintendo is going into VR. the technology needed doesn't match their traditionnal way to create and sell hardware.

I just think that E3 is the one gaming event of the year where what's said / shown has a chance of bleeding over into the rest of the market (call them casuals or whatever) and the perception that you aren't trying as hard as the other manufacturers can be damaging even if it isn't strictly speaking true.
Doubt it. The live events were a big part of it. We experienced last year how dull a Nintendo Direct during E3 is. So we know what to expect. And I think Nintendo fans in general have been screwed long enough with now that the expectations are dwindling. I know they are for me.
Lol at everyone who says they are setting their hype low. We all know by late May/early June when that hype train is choo-chooing its way through gaf we will all be boarding. We can't help it. Its like a drug.

If it connects with their gaming devices in anyway they're more than likely to show it in some form at E3. I haven't been following their QoL stuff so I don't know when it will be ready for release but if they have something to show, I wouldn't doubt them taking some time during their E3 conference to show it.I don't think we'll see their QOL products at E3. It's not aimed toward gamers, like at all. Not even casuals. E3 is not for that. E3 is for gamers. I mean, they apologized for the E3 2008 conference not being geared enough toward gamers.
If they take time on-stage or in a Direct for that, it's E3 2008 all over again.
We got one thread for Sony and Microsoft, might as well start one for Nintendo.
More to the point, what do you think will Nintendo do at E3? What do you think the SHOULD do? What games will they show? Will they go back to the on-stage live presentation or do a E3 Nintendo Direct again?
Personally, I strongly wish for them do go back to the traditional on-stage presentation. Last year was a test (I hope), and since the stream couldn't quite handle to traffic it got (at lot worse than any stream from the stage at the Nokia Theater), I hope they decide to go back full force.
As for the games, we know Zelda will be there in some capacity. Animal Crossing Wii U I'm expecting. Maybe a new Metroid for 3DS? I have big hopes for Majora's Mask 3D. It's too soon to get a new game from Retro after DK, so we'll have to wait for that.
What damage? They were still there in full force on the show floor. I even remember John Harker making a thread detailing how much of an improvement they were with their booth last year.
Every news outlet that streamed the other conferences streamed theirs too.
Yea their booths were awesome!
I thought their whole road apperances were done well in 2013.
I really don't think them doing a Nintendo Direct instead of a conference is that big of a deal.
I mean, I've been to over 10 of these E3 jams. I thought leading up to E3 last year it sounded bad they weren't doing one, but at the end of the day - they probably get more coverage with an ND anyway. And they launched the playable demos and kicked off the best buy kiosk program immediately after, I'd argue that was a more impactful deal than just having closed demos at their booth.
That said, I dunno if they are doing a press conference or not this year...
I just know where they aren't doing one.
Now that they actually have a couple of solid games coming up, I think they'll have a stage show. I don't think they want to reveal Zelda through a direct.
I definitely expect to see:
WiiU
Zelda U + release date (2015)
X (full reveal) + release date (2014)
Big new Smash Bros. character + release date (2014)
Bayonetta 2 + release date (2014)
Hyrule Warriors + release date (2014)
One big new IP
Lots and lots and lots of indie titles
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem (2015)
Also, they will absolutely drop the price of the system.
3DS
Majora's Mask 3DS
Monolith Soft's 3DS game
Dragon Quest VII
Monster Hunter 4
Pokemon something
Casual something
I hope to see:
Metroid sidescroller on 3DS
Star Fox Wii U
F-Zero Wii U
a Zelda for Wii U that isn't a OoT/TP/SS clone, and doesn't have any sort of control gimmick.
NFC/Miyamoto new IP(maybe same thing?)
MAAAYYYBBBEEE Retro new project
You realize there was a not-broadcast press event that said mainstream media was invited to, yes? Where there were live Smash Bros. demos that never went to the show floor and Wii Fit Trainer was announced along with everything we got in the Nintendo Direct?
How is it "scraps", exactly, when all the same content was provided that would have been at an on-stage presentation?Yes, but that was scraps compared to an on-stage show.
I don't think Nintendo will do another Wii U price cut even though it's a hard sell to get such an overpriced and underpowered product to do well ... and the glaring lack of third party support only makes things look worse. However, even if they do a price cut, without the expanded audience's support, Nintendo's still pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place. They simply don't have enough fans in the home console market to get Wii U to do any better than potentially 20 million and at this rate, that may even be a fairly generous assumption. GameCube had more going for it than Wii U does, and we all know what happened to that platform. Anyway, Iwata stated in January that there were no current plans to do a price cut for it.
Every year I get excited for the next E3.
Every year I board the hype train.
Every year I shake my head at half the stuff at Nintendo's E3 conference and wonder why they can't get their shit together, and yet...
Every year I still think Nintendo won.
Every year I spend too much money on Nintendo products.
And then I start this crazy ride all over again.
The Miyamoto thing could be the biggest thing ever or just another Wii Music...I think Miyamoto still got it but I wish he would show something we would never expect. Give the man the money and time to make the most ambious project ever. Somtimes I hope he will make some kind of slice of life game with a good and tragic story, with characters so well designed, we would think they are real and combined with a fantastic gameplay and the most interactive world ever. You know...Shenmue just with Miymoto gameplay.
And no way we will see something from Retro...don't expect it before 2016.

Sorry, could'nt resist.
Somebody should put Iwatas head there instead of Homer.
Pretty much the best to expect. It's. 95% likely to happen and if we hit the other 5% we'll be happy. They will have another E3 Direct and we will all hype it up and they will under deliver, when they really need to step outside their comfort zone and won't. WILL BE A DISASTER!
Expect nothing
Monolith isn't developing a 3DS game. They helped out with some of Nintendo's 3DS projects, but that was it.Now that they actually have a couple of solid games coming up, I think they'll have a stage show. I don't think they want to reveal Zelda through a direct.

Whatever they do, they need to knock it out of the park, because what they need is to draw attention to themselves. Right now, the gaming industry feels like it wouldn't be any different if Nintendo didn't exist at all and that is unprecedented.
How is it "scraps", exactly, when all the same content was provided that would have been at an on-stage presentation?
It sounds more exactly like I thought, people just miss the spectacle and fabricated hype machine.
Which was the individual's choice and had nothing to do with that Nintendo did or didn't do.Sure, that's part of it- but you're not seeing the big picture. Having a show meant that more press would cover them. It also meant that they could get featured on live TV like their competition was. Several gaming sites would have given Nintendo more coverage if they could have live-streamed the show too.
A lot of people missed out on Nintendo entirely last year because of the choice to skip the conference.
