I think the practical effects hold up really well in SM1. The effects though are really bad in some areas (like GG at the parade- it was even bad at the time), but mostly good for a 2002 movie.

It holds up better than any other superhero flick around that time.

....two issues isn't really a story arc it was just a two parter , well received, well done, but better than phoenix, hell fire club, fall of mutants, dark phoenix saga, savage land, Mojoverse ....ehhh its one of the best .

Hugh Jackman looks more like Wolverine now then he did back in the first X-Men.
 
I think I read once that he got the role late in pre-production and didn't have enough time to add mass.

But yea, Jackman's commitment to the physical aspect of this role is amazing.

Have all the x-men movies been about Magneto vs Charles? When are we gonna get some villains like apocalypse or siniter? Magneto x Charles is getting kinda stale.

I cant say that the xmen movies have had their "The Dark Knight" or even Spiderman 2 level film yet , X2 was close but still not on the level of Begins, TDK, or Avengers . However, it could be and it SHOULD . I dont know if xmen are the property they were 10 years ago, the avengers have really re emerged in the past 10 years then they pulled off a good show and a great movie. Batman is always near the top as is Spiderman so we'll see.

I'm not even sure you can make a X-Men movie that captures what makes the comics great. The comics are all about interpersonal relationships and continuity. The action has always been secondary. Turning them into big budget action movies is never going to be the right way to translate them to the screen. Maybe a TV show would, but even a TV show would fail to capture the depth and complexity that is the X-Men universe.

Apocalypse is the next movie.

Also, these movies have had plenty of other villains. Stryker, Hellfire Club, now Trask and Sentinels.
 
I was hoping we could get a sinister movie where he somehow saved scott and jean or used clones. Then setup for apocalypse. Looks like we are just gonna get Hugh Jackman as Apocalypse.
 
to hell with jennifer lawrence. and also they should totally make that poster (just advertising the future cast).

and have a separate poster for the past timeline.
 
Also, unlike apparently quite a few people on GAF, I disagree that all of the X-Men costumes in DoFP are abjectly terrible. Wolverine, future Xavier/Magneto, Bishop, Warpath, Colossus, Blink, Sunspot, and Kitty Pride all look perfectly fine. Hell even Storm and Ice-man looked great in motion. I'll agree that Quicksilver is bad, Mystique looks as dull as she did in X1 (I've never liked her design), and Beast still looks weird - but I think those are probably the worst offenders.

I still don't get why some people seem to just have it out for this movie.

i agree xmen was so great because it had a cadence , action packed story arc that started with investigation , had twists and resolution. Then an issue or two at home at the mansion. most of my fav issues were all drama and reminiscing. characters grew and changed, tensions arose and readers waiting for the day a drama bubble would pop. However, I do think that on screen , one thing that can be captured, is the xmen are a badass team in the field. As one they were damn near unstoppable with their combination of powers , abilities and experience. That has never been on film but could be most definitely.

some of them are forgettable jumpsuits, and generic padded armor.. that's not even a slight on the film. just the costume choices. some of them do look good though. The Magnetos, old Prof X, Bishop, Blink, and Sunspot. Both Wolverine's look ok too.

I hardly think that is having it out for the movie, lol.
