I agree that its nice that they have some mechanic in place that tries to keep that online part active, but i wouldnt mind if it was possible to turn off random invasions like that. Hiding is a good idea actually. I did that once and the invader ran around form maybe 5 minutes trying to find me before he left hehe :)

I think that's what burning a human effigy is used for. To limit invasions/summoning for next hour.

I'm going to go ahead and say that this game is significantly harder by summoning people to help you if they die during the fight/run out.
The scaling is much harsher than DS1 i do close to triple damage on boss fights by myself and i actually think i have an easier time.

Motherfucker....
I beat Sinner & Smelter with Lucatiel and she doesn't show up in Gulch. Then I use an asectic and do Sentry again. And she's STILL not in gulch.
Fucking quest line is fucking broken as hell.

So these are a few things I couldn't figure out (all late game spoilers):

1.
How do you unlock the door at Aldia's keep? The one just before the dragon boss
.
2.
How do you unlock the door in Shrine of Amana? The one close to the 2nd bonfire, where you have to cross the bridge to get to it
.
3.
Also in Shrine of Amana, what's with that ritualistic bonfire next to the maiden you rescued from Drangelic Castle? I pray here, and nothing happens
.

1. If you mean the one with the chains, have a hippo break it open for you.
2. You can go there after you killed Vendrick. And you have to be in human form.
3. The altar will make you human again if you're fully hollowed and have no effigies left anywhere.

I'd go to 150, take VIT, END, and ADP to 20. I'm only level 109, but that's my goal. And I'm keeping my STR at 17 to one hand the Black Knight Halberd, otherwise I use Blacksteel. What do you need 23 STR for?

23 Str lets me dual wield power stance the Sun Sword (or any weapon that requires 15 Str). I've determined that's about the highest requirement for any good scaling Dex weapon I want to use.

I feel like it's a waste to put points into Vit with my build. I'm a light-armored dodger, if I get hit once it's over anyway.

Arghh...I am having a little bit of trouble at him. Any recommendations? I am coming so close, but I end up getting overwhelmed by his flames.

Just don't let your stamina drop too low. When he does the
jumping ground stab thing
is the best time to heal. Strafe and don't go crazy. Try to have enough stamina to block at least one or two of his attacks.

Shrine of Amana was a cakewalk for me. Bow and arrow made most of the mages trivial. I usually rushed the ones that were close by and sniped the rest.
Don't have stats for a bow and arrow. Got pretty good at dodging the homing soul arrows and have small shield with decent magic defense. Made it to the third bonfire and saw what more bullshit lay ahead of the gas-spewing creepies and decided to take a break for the sake of my nerves!

Oh, so when you use a Human Effigy, you wont be invaded for a certain amount of time?
Burning, yes. Good for trying to go through the Rat areas or Belfry towers.

Shrine of Amana wasn't too bad. Though that one long section with the faraway snipers were annoying. Took me a little bit to realize I was next to a bonfire. lol

Damn, i just disconnected when i got invaded, and when i went back online again, i was greeted with this:

ilPzerYKQa3qU.jpg

This makes me very happy. Thought it would take longer to start punishing people for disconnects.

what's your stats? My Dex is only 23 right now. Been upping it since I reached 40 STR.

STR 10 / DEX 9. Int build :)

I'm quite disappointed with the new spells overall. The soul sword one shown in early footage looked great but it doesn't seem be very useful, maybe for crowd control? Soul Vortex is probably my favourite, I was getting just short of 1000 per shot on the big hippo-ogre things. I've got 7 attunement slots and really just have been using the strongest soul arrow as for speed and damage it seems the best of the stronger spells. Soul Spear is now garbage and so are the pew-pew ones.

Oh, I thought they made magic better but I keep hearing it's not as good. I wonder if they'll patch it after feedback.

Is there any place to buy effigies besides
The Dark covenant guy? Darklurker is bullshit. Killed him once but also died myself. It's not so much the boss fight itself but the way there....

Ah, I see. Maybe more STR for the Sunlight Sword scaling? Try increasing your ADP, I think it'll help with your build. And VIT increases equip weight, so you can wear different armors if you put points into that. VIG is for HP :)

I'm really loving all the extras and optional stuff in this game. Just invaded a certain not so innocent NPC last night. That was very neat.

When you burn one you will be less likely to be invaded AND less able to summon. Those two are a pair, can't have one option without the other.
Burning, yes. Good for trying to go through the Rat areas or Belfry towers.
Ah, thats true, i forgot about that you could also burn Human Effigies at the bonfires.

This makes me very happy. Thought it would take longer to start punishing people for disconnects.
This is most likely an automatic thing, not something that is done manually. Otherwise they wouldnt give you a Bone Of Order item that bring you back online at once. Or what do you mean with "thought it would take longer to start punishing people for disconnects"?

They have to allow for a certain amount of disconnects in case people have bad internet connection. Unless the PS3 detects an ethernet cable pull as some different disconnect than turning off your modem, and the game can also pick this up, it should be possible to be "banned" from online with simply having bad luck with a spotty internet connection.

Having a hard time deciding what to do with my mostly pure caster + fire longsword guy.
Something like 36INT, 27 FTH. Working my way up to 30FTH, I believe that's when I can get the chime from the one miracle merchant. Wasted some titanite upgrading my archdrake staff before I accidentally got the hexer's set and sunset staff for free.

Resonant Soul is pretty beastly. A lot of my sorceries now seem shit in comparison. I'm way behind on fire seeds, and I have to upgrade my staff and chime and get more faith. The stat investment is feeling like too much. I'm high level, but I barely have any vigor or endurance and I don't feel *that* powerful. I'm having fun with it though. Some bosses are cake, some don't flinch at any of my magic.

YEEEEEESSSS!! Fuck you! I did that shit! Thank you GAF, you gave me the strength I needed!

It took me 42 tries, but that bastard is finally dead. The sweet, sweet victory feels so good...

Hnnnggggghhh

I was in the same situation as you. Refused to respec. Took about the same number of tries.

I'm the one who left that "overwhelming joy!" message in the area just outside the fight, because that was exactly what I felt.

Is there any place to buy effigies besides

The old hag merchant sells a few. Agdayne
(NPC in the Undead Crypt)
sells 13. I think there are a couple more places. You can also farm them in
Shrine of Amana
.

let's be honest. how many people really get disconnected by internet problem over the other than simply disconnect when get invaded?

I'll say 1%

Keep in mind, you only have 1. So if you become a sinner again, you will forever be alone. :)
Yeah, i edited my post a bit to clearify that :) I just ment that since they give you a Bone Of Order item and you're back online as soon as you use it, i think this shows that its an automatic thing, not a manual ban. But yeah, you only get one of these items indeed, so its best to be careful with disconnecting :)

Speaking about sinning, how do you do that in the game? Kill any NPCs? In Dark Souls 1, you sinned if you changed covenants if i remember correctly, but that isnt the case in Dark Souls 2.

Yeah, killing NPCs definitely does it. I had like a 120k soul bounty to absolve my sin after killing the old witches with my first character.

Finally have a chance to play! First time since Friday. Good progress so far. Took out
Lost Sinner
on my 3rd attempt. Dude was basic, stay close and circle him strategy like most of the other bosses. Flame sword still putting in work as well. I actually like the bonfire warping a bit more now considering I found a Pharros Lockstone in
Huntsman's Copse
and then remembered that spot in
Lost Bastille
to use it. Lots of locked doors though. Hmmm.

Am I crazy, or did they really nerf the INT characters this go around?

It seems that tanking really is the way they want you to play the game.

Hm, what's this about?

In the game, a certain "friendly" NPC tries to invade you several times as a
"Nameless Usurper"
(name of the invader disguised name, not the NPC). Later on, you get an item called Crushed Eye Orb from the Undead Crypt that will radiate and resonant/alert you when you are near that NPC. You can then use it to invade them and kill the NPC and get their stuff. The NPC is
licia
. You need to use this item to invade and kill the NPC in order to get their unique spell which can only be found from them. After that they are dead. Doesn't count as sin either.

I agree, i just ment in theory since it seems that its an automatic thing, not that its likely to happen. It would most likely be hard to distinguish between a legit disconnect and a manual disconnect, so they must allow for a certain amount of disconnects before they "ban" you, just in case some legit disconnects actually happen. I should have clearified that a bit better, sorry. As i mentioned earlier, i'm glad that there actually is a mechanic like this in place. I dont like rage quitters, especially in engaged PvP senarios. I mostly disconnected from random invaders where i didnt want to engage in PvP.

Oh, I did the part with that NPC but I didn't connect the dots with the
Nameless Usurper
. Interesting.

Also, it most definitely counted as sin for me. Someone else mentioned that it did for them earlier in this thread as well.

Oh, I thought they made magic better but I keep hearing it's not as good. I wonder if they'll patch it after feedback.

it was great in the beta with manual aim, two-handing damage bonus and everything. they took everything out and made it bland. hexes (dark sorcery) still feel superstrong.

there are some good spells that affect multiple targets, at least I think that's what's supposed to happen, but with the horrendous hit detection, there's a great chance you miss all of them.

Yeah I read that earlier. Strangely didn't count as sin against me. Maybe you need to let them strike first/initiate the attack first?

If you're having trouble with
Havel, use the classic anti-Havel tactic - roll behind him and backstab. His swings are powerful but extremely slow, so he's highly susceptible to backstabs. The other phantoms in that arena shouldn't be much to worry about.

I had read that (late game area)
To pray to the altar in Shrine of Amana to restore your humanity, you can't have sin
which is why I tried to absolve in the first place, but I don't think that's the case.
It just doesn't work if you have effigies on you

It should affect invasion frequency because blues can hunt down sinners. But PVP in NG is kind of nonexistent except for the covenant areas :(

What I meant was I thought it would take more than a few weeks of disconnecting from invasions to punish people and I am surprised to see that the threshold of punishment is so low. (unless you were disconnecting like crazy).

You know this is pretty bad right?

Because doing so you're ruining other people game. Dont want to get invaded? Offline mode.

Wait, is it possible to beat the game without the lockstone from Licia (to turn the
contraption in Majula
) ?

What would happen if you killed her but died, and didn't pick up the lockstone drop?

Thanks for all the load screens :(

You can simply go to the
Lost Bastile
from
The forest of the Giant
and backtrack

You can resurrect npcs, I think. Paying souls at their tomb stone.
