PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | March 2014

This is the first idea to get out of your head. It's not really unfair at all. It's tightly designed, and it knows very well how to give you an "out" in a situation. Yes, the mousetrap like "Hit by one thing, and then another...and then another... and then DEATH!" situation happens, but it's generally due to the player being unobservant and rushing at a breakneck pace, without understanding the rules of the game.

It's all up to understanding. For example, you can kill a giant spider instantly by tossing a bomb into hiw web, before he notices you. Enemies overhead can be killed by shooting a grappling hook up. Hanging from a leg and falling is the safest way to descend without a rope. Holding up or down will allow you to pan the camera, to "look before you leap". Arrows from Tiki-heads can be set off by dropping any object in front of them. You can use Rocks, Skeletons, or the mice in the cave for this. There is ALWAYS something on your path to use to set off a trap like these; if you don't want to look for it, use a bomb, or rope.

There's nothing wrong with the Whip hitbox. It even can be used to hit over your head or behind you. Weapons are very fun to use when you get them, but they aren't integral to survival; Though there are many who will P.O. the shopkeepers, so they can get that shotgun. (Even though this is a much-recommended strat, I rarely do it on purpose, personally.)

The main point of the game is to complete it in 1 run. However, as you get deeper in , Tunnelman will ask for items to build you shortcuts. They allow you to skip to any zone (Ice caves, jungle, etc) and start from there, without having to pass the previous stages. It's a great way to practice. Once you get good (not even great, just... know what you're doing), it's easy to clear the mines in ~5 minutes anyway.

In my time with this Spelunky between 3 systems, and watching my brother play, and he playing Co-Op with me, I can say I've seen much less "Random death mousetrap" than actual "Man, why didn't I notice that?!?" real deaths. Even annoying things like mines, spike pits, tikimen, etc, all have audible and visual tells. The late game stuff is much less forgiving, but you should pretty much be prepared to learn to deal with them, if you're good enough to make it that far.

Yup, totally something wrong! ;-)

Really, I understand the way of thinking, but I've never felt like my runs in Spelunky were determined fully by my luck. It offers so many things that overlap in usefulness (The treasure item gotten from the mines that points towards the exit and shows treasure, VS the compass you can buy that do the same thing, for example), that I always feel like I have a chance to get what I need, if I'm savvy.

Everything in the first 3 zones of the game CAN be navigated with just your default ability; having items makes it easier, and empowers you to avoid risk (why jump over the spike pits when you can just blow them up? Or tunnel under them!), but there's never a time when you flat out CAN'T make it.

And lastly, with all that said, it's probably much easier to learn the game with a co-op partner. If you die, you live buddies have a chance to find a coffin in the next stages. Break the coffin, and dead player is revived! Even when they're dead, their Ghost can move objects by blowing on them, or set off traps by moving near them.

Even if you don't have a live co-op player with you, just turn on controller 2, and carry the lifeless doll with you! You can toss them (or their dead body) into things, to kinda "feel out" the area, and rules (how close does one have to be for an enemy to proc, how far can one fall without taking damage, etc.)

Yeah, I guess I might have overreacted a bit there. Or maybe it's the fact that I've finally reached the jungle, so faith in my skills has been reinstated for the time being. ;-)
Anyway, thank you very much for such a long answer. It's really, really helpful!

The Flying Hamster II will get a Kickstarter next week. It's a sequel to the shoot 'em up that came out a few years ago. This time it's a RPG platformer inspired by Wonder Boy / Monster World.

I loved the first game because it was a shmup I could finish, and the graphics were beautiful. I'm there.

The platforms will be consoles (probably Vita too) and PC.

OMG it looks awesome!

Does it matter if you use a different card when updating? Or is it just a problem with reading 32gb cards as a whole.

Glad I saw this thread before updating.

Only certain people have been affected, and so far only 32's. I'd use a different one if you have an extra. My 32 is dead as fuck and im upset.

maybe we should try to find a common denominator besides de 32 gb card, some things that i can think of are:
- Vita Model
- Game cart on tray
- Amount of Memory available?

Had Rayman in tray.
No idea the amount of room and I can't tell you either.
3g Model, like a couple of months after launch. < 1 year.

I ordered a 32gb Vita memory card from Amazon UK on Christmas Day (exactly 3 months ago) for £40 and it still hasn't been sent to me. They're saying that they've no stock and will let me know when it'll be sent out. I get an email from them once a month saying that...

Anyway, I looked on eBay and I found a seller in Hong Kong selling one for £44. Listing is here.

I'm just curious, is this legit? I've never bought memory cards on eBay and I dunno if it's a knock-off or anything. Are there knock-offs of Vita memory cards? I'll go for this if it's above board, as 3 months is a ridiculous time to wait for an order and £4 is nothing really.

I'm a gaming n00b so do excuse me but are we going to see stuff like Thief etc free on PS4 for PS+ subscribers anytime this year? It all feels a bit bare bones on PS4 at the moment.

I imagine that's a possibility, yes. I also tend to think that we'll see some first party launch titles like Knack and KZ:SF come to PS+ this year as well. At some point they are going to have to put some AAA PS4 games on plus, the indies (as much as I like them) aren't going to cut it forever.

We don't know. We find out what the PSN+ games are on a monthly basis. They are release weekly after that, with the first week usually being PS4/PS3 games and the latter weeks of the month being mostly Vita stuff.

it's not cross-buy if you get the more expensive PS3 version is it? like PSASBR and Sly Cooper worked (cross-buy as in you'd get the Vita version if you bought the PS3 version but not vice versa)

its not, probably would have sold a lot better if it was cross buy

Aww snap. Localization announcements for Project Diva f 2nd AND Neptunia Re;Birth? Today's gonna be a good day. I'll be there day 1 for PDf2, and maybe Re;Birth if it gets a physical release.

The Shield is getting all the cool FPS I want on the Vita ;(
First it was just inofficial ports of Quake 1-3, RTCW, Jedi Knight 2+3 and Doom 3 and now they even get an official Portal port, which is perfect for a handheld.

After doing some research on the games offered for (Vita) PS Plus right now I think I'll wait until the april games are announced before subscribing. My plan is, not owning a Sony console, to subscribe and have some games ready by the time I get a Vita Slim, but it doesn't look like any of the current ones are particularly decent and Steam already does a good enough job of getting me games I'll play for 30 mins tops :P

Damn I wish NA got Sly Cooper as well :P
Warning. If you buy a PS+ card you need to redeem it on a PS Console. Get a $50 PSN card instead and then buy PS+ through the store. That should work
This was the first update that I noticed an increase in speed.

Also...

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd announced for Western release!

Edit: Beaten. My GIF is better though.
I did my part by buying PDf

Seems possible. Square Enix stuff has a habit of going on PS+ Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider, Just Cause 2, Quantum Conundrum, etc

If it helps VitaGAF out, I am all for trying to figure out what is causing people to watch $80-90 disappear/become useless.

Wifi Original (fat) Vita - 32GB card
No game in tray
roughly 1.5GB free
Update: Successful

Since the update changed something with the amount of possible bubbles, maybe it is related to how many bubbles/folders you had before the update and that's why only bigger cards are affected? Just an idea.

FEZ is 210MB for Vita.

Will download for PS4 when it gets here today and PS3 in the living room now!

Love me some cross buy/play/save goodness on Playstation platforms.

Would love to know some impressions of the PS4 version of Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition, especially the local co-op. Last DW game I played was Dynasty Warriors 3 and I remember really liking it.

Is the game more fun than its predecessors with all the added content and such? Worth the $60 price tag?

The cross save slot is so damn convenient in FEZ. Makes it easier to jump from my Vita to the PS4 in the room or PS3 in the living room. Love this convenience.

i keep searching for naval strike. i really hope it goes up soon. i want to play it tonight with a friend and he has pretty slow internet.

That looks SO good, lol. I'm really impressed with how Game Atelier seems to be able to do justice to the old Cutesy-style of Japanese games that barely exist anymore. Flying Hamster hit that Parodius / Twinbee feel pretty well, and this looks to hit the Monster World / SD Valis (ha!) style pretty well, too.

If promise of Vita, I might have to try and back...

No problem! The game remains one of those experiences that shines and helps prove how solid indies / smaller games can be to me; especially after playing so many that leave much to be desired mechanically. It's got the kind of gameplay depth that I love from older games, that I rarely feel in modern-retro creations. Would be a shame to miss it due to bad initial impressions.

Thief or tomb raider gaf. Which one to buy. Played tomb raider last year and enjoyed it, love stealth games but have never played the thief series.
