PS Fans right now.

Considering Facebook has screwed every other attempt they've made at expansion up, I think we pretty safely can kiss Oculus Rift goodbye.

Wow. Huge, stunning news, though.

This is not good for Sony or anyone from a gamers perspective. Looking forward to your VR Facebook micro-transaction free to play games!

Well this is random to say the least...
On a positive note they now have all the cash in the world to play around with kind of.
Lets hope they will not start massproducing Farmville 3D or some weird social media 3d masturbation toolsets ...

If he does end up leaving OR, and we have to see the direction the company takes after the Facebook acquisition, I would imagine he would probably open his own indie development studio.
Hire some gameplay designers and he does the brunt of the coding work.

After the $2 billion dollar deal? No way.

The Oculus Rift team is smart by getting him on their team, it probably raise their credibility and valuation by a lot before this planned move.

It's like the end of The Godfather where Michael has all the threats taken care of at once... but instead of killing them here they get billion-dollar checks.

I could see Google snapping them up, but what good would VR do for Facebook's plans at all?

Hardcore gamers HATE him! Learn this one weird trick to lose nerd credibility in one day.

So what is the end game here?

What does this mean for gaming?

Probaby will stay the same as it was before, to be honest. Maybe even more goodies cause of more funds from Facebook.
This question probably will get more serious answers on page 50, to be honest

I'm genuinely interested why people are saying this is a bad thing/already dead etc?

Excuse my ignorance.

No one knows yet, honestly.

Facebook certainly isn't something many people have a lot of good will for, though.

What will Facebook think when their product is in news articles about VR porn? I foresee a closed ecosystem in the future where you can only buy Facebook approved apps at Facebook approved prices. This is horrible news for the PC as a gaming platform.

Surprised people weren't expecting this in general. Ever since Iribe was made CEO, they were in sell mode. His track records with selling Gaiki made Oculus a pending sale the whole time.

Zuckerberg can spend that money without blinking. Maybe he just thought the tech was cool, or fancies being James Halliday from Ready Player One
