I was talking about the Christopher Reeve one mang

That was a more... experimental time. It would take real balls to do it now.

(Could give a shit about his red trunks and honestly the new look is better)

It could be alright

All about context. On its own, it's alright. Him wearing that, tearing through classic looking sentinels.

Greatness.

His claws don't line up with his fist.

They couldn't seriously be thinking of releasing this film without a poster based on this? It's one of the most well known comic book covers ever, and it's what the film is based on. Better than "random cast members floating above a city with an explosion".
Among comic book fans. No one in the general population has ever seen that image before. It's like saying, "this is incredibly popular in 1% of the population! Why don't they use it?"

The face seems also off. Especially the cheeks.

It's a famous comic book cover though because it's a fucking awesome cover. It jumps out and grabs your attention. No comic book cover has ever made me say "holy shit I have to read what happens in this comic" like that one. For the same reason it would make a great movie poster.

yeah this is all cherrypicking (both sides of the argument).

it's not one hundred. some things will work other's wont. wolverine mask would be wack as hell in this universe. yeah i've seen the prop pictures a million times now. but put that on hugh jackman's face and audiences would run away.

the mask looks silly. but i disagree, most of the choices for the costume design in these x-men films are boring and uninteresting. magneto's helmet looked silly in the early films, but i guess that prop actually means something (blocks charles out).

EDIT: That was in The Wolverine? I either completely missed it, or forgot about it. I thought it was really good fan made costume.

Boring and uninteresting they may be, but they fit within the context of the universe created in these movies, and that's far more important than appeasing the insanity of costume-zealots.

I think the wolverine mask + costume scene is incredibly out of place, only appealing to the previously mentioned costume crazies, and I'm glad the took it out. Even if they do classic costumes for the inevitable reboot, I still think Wolverines mask is dumb, and hope they show restraint like Singer has.

The problem is that some people act like they can't be done.
If Captain America can be done in a way audiences accept, Wolverine and others certainly can.
Not thatthis series really needs them though

I get that, and agree: these aren't the movies for it, but costumes closer to the comics could work.
It would be nice to see less of these wardrobe freak outs in what seems like every thread for this movie, though.

Even Marvel has shown restraint when adapting to live-action. Their tone is certainly more light-hearted, but even they can tell when a direct adaptation does and doesn't work.

When can stuff translate easily? Winter Soldier, Iron Man (in no small part thanks to the Extremis book), modern Hawkeye, Thor's armor (though more thought and detail had to be put in to make it work), SHIELD Cap.

But that said, Thor's helmet is admittedly unwieldy, and so they just don't use it. You aren't going to be seeing classic Falcon or classic Hawkeye any time soon. Black Widow's outfit is less "low-cut catsuit" and instead is simply just a more militaristic-looking bodysuit. Want to see comic-accurate? Look at a cosplayer, but they'd look real stupid in a movie that tries to maintain some level of believability. Same reason you will probably never see the Ms. Marvel costume. They didn't put the wings on the Cap helmet because why would they? Why would anyone? Hell, the only time he wears his "true-to-the-comics" costume is played off as a joke, and even then, it is literally a costume designed to entertain on a stage show in 1940's America. The comics acknowledged it too with relatively recent books redesigning Cap's WW2 outfit to look more "of the era" blended with iconic imagery of his costume. And hell, they got a "truer" take on his costume in The Avengers and it honestly looks the worst.

The X-Men movies largely play the team off as a kind of black ops group. Alot of the classic costumes, especially considering when the first X-Men movies were made, would not work. And even now, Wolverine's costume sure wouldn't work without serious rethinking. But if you were a respectable costume designer working in movies, you'd probably be thinking about Logan's personality and wondering if a person like him would wear a costume at all. Why would he? What's the point of it? Some other characters might, but his reaction of "You actually go outside in these things?" in the first X-Men movies frankly feels more accurate to the character's personality than anything.

I care nothing about it looking like the comics. But they can do better while making it believable in that world. I think I should be able to think that without being labeled a costume zealot or whatever. Quicksilver doesn't even look like he belongs in this movie, so I'm not sure how he got through. Maybe he looks cool in fast mo?

It would look dumb if he put it on, but to dismiss the idea of a mask entirely is silly. There's someone out there fully capable of giving the X-Men a more unique look on film. That person just isn't Bryan Singer, but at least he made X2 which is fine with me :-).

I can't speak for others, but Cap's helmet isn't something I accept, but rather put up with. It looks awful. I hope he has it off most of the time in Winter Soldier. He doesn't need it, anyways.

Could work if you play it off as an armor design he received in Japan in the past that he just sticks with out of nostalgia/honor. Doesn't work in the current continuity though.

Sure. But this is still the guy who turned down a samurai sword for saving Yoshida's life, even if it was "for honor." That mask is still super impractical though

Direct adaptions won't always translate, but that really depends on what type of film you're making. With the first few X-Men it made more sense, most comicbook movies were in terrible shape around that time (before Raimi's Spider-Man). So a colorful X-Men was probably the last thing on the list lol. They played it pretty safe.

They basically ripped off the look of the Blade and Matrix, back in 2000 this was fine and it appealed to people. Fast forward to now, and they just look boring and uninspired for a comicbook film, although, the few modifications that were made throughout the years for the better are nice. I actually think for the most part.. that Wolverine is fine, he's not all that hard to do. First Class, those suits looked on the silly side, lol. But the film was aesthetically better than all the Singer movies. Just a lot more interestingly visually I thinks. I'd rank it after X2, but I have to re-watch both.

Captain America's costume worked well 3 times now though Cap's helmet has a lot of issues keeping it from being good/great.

The WW2 helmet needed the wings. despite the risk of looking silly they break up the unflattering chrome dome shape.
Even if they were just very slight definitions in the helmet.
Flash's TV costume is encountering the same issue since they decided to shrink the lightning bolts down.

Avengers? No saving that crap. Dude at Universal Studios has a better cowl than that.

Easiest solution is no helmet at all.

no shit. she shot a really small amount of footage because she was pregnant and it's obvious she dies there. we'll get a couple cool action setpieces with the future cast but i'm assuming most of the future stuff will be magneto/xavier/wolverine and also a death tally hence the reason why wolverine says he watched a lot of his friends die.

quicksilver was clearly gonna be the kooky comic relief guy. or did y'all think he was gonna be all stoic with that corny outfit?

only thing that irked me in that tv spot was when jennifer lawrence talked because she needs to gtfoutta movies.

I don't see how Storm doesn't eat shit during that shot. I think they're all toast. We'll get that one scene of Iceman being Iceman right before he leaves the mortal plane.

Then they'll all be back together at the end due to timey wimey. I'm pretty sure everyone in the future bites it in that sentinel battle, which seems to be at the start of the movie. Even Magneto's beaten to all hell when he says "All those years spent fighting each other..."

I have to agree, the costume crazies take their zeal too far.

Comic book colour riot just doesn't translate to film without looking camp as hell

looks awesome.
i still don't get how angela bassett was NOT the first choice to play storm, from the very beginning. she's absolutely perfect for the role.
tone of voice, stature, facial likeness etc.

halle berry as 'ro has just never sat well with me.

and looks like they completely removed rogue from the movie. i remember seeing very early footage with her in it.

awesome to see blink & sunspot in there. curious why they chose sunspot as opposed to sunfire though, as he's nowhere near as popular as shiro (sunfire).

it'd be like choosing sabretooth to be in this film instead of wolverine.

This looks so terrible. This is what comic book readers seem to be unable to understand, the majority of this kind of stuff will not translate to film without looking like a complete joke. I mean, yellow and red. lol

I hope whenever they make a live action movie about Iron Man they adapt the armor properly. Something like this would be perfect:

But that Iron Man doesn't look terrible. The comic book Sentinel is wearing a pink beanie, dude. That just doesn't work in live action.

Terrible example. Marvel is very mix&match when it comes to their costume-designs. If it works, it works, like they did with the Iron Man armor designs. It's even explained in the movie why the armor is colored like it is.
Can anyone come up with a practical example as to why Wolverine would wear yellow and blue spandex?

I wish they'd stop giving Mystique a huge role because Jennifer Lawrence is so popular. Can't stand her.

EDIT: The only reason I could see Wolverine wearing his cowl is when he has joined the X-Force.

Why is Singer so bent on making visually boring movies. Those uniforms + the fact that everything looks like it's built from gray hospital-clean metal... uggh.

Then they can put him in his madripoor color scheme. Who says its spandex? It could be armored and in the same vein of the comic design he has like 5 long time variations.

Why would Wolverine wear armor? The dude regenerated from a bullet to the head. Armor would only weigh him down.

But to put it more general; why would a grown man, who has seen shit like noone else, go around town wearing a bright yellow/blue outfit?

Cyclops: I'm sorry you're not thrilled Logan, but super heroes wear tights.

Oh wait :'D

the madripoor scheme is not yellow and blue

i understand now.

You know I never really thought about it until I recently saw some of the old animated series again.
God Rogue sucks in these movies, she was probably the coolest character in the animated series.
