Sad but true, and I'm not even talking PVP.I used to be able to rock the black leather armor in Demons and DS1, its useless in this, unless you want to challange yourself to not die in two thwacks.
Was gonna kill the last the boss but I ended cooping against the Aegis boss guy for 2 1/2 hours. The amount of souls you can farm with the silver serpent+1 ring is insane.
I dunno, I think some of the early areas are pretty cool looking and atmospheric, especially
Heide's Tower of Flame (although I wish it was a larger area), No Man's Wharf, and Sinner's Rise, especially the walk towards the Lost Sinner battle.
I'm pretty damn impressed with all the visuals, and I'm really interested to see if the PC version has the lighting they advertised because there are some areas that will likely be downright awesome and spooky if done right.
Heide's Tower of Flame pop up on screen and then an actual...er...tower of flame in the distance, I was preparing for an epic battle fighting my way up to the top of a, you know, tower...of flame.
Turns out that sort of thing comes later in the game anyway, but I was a bit disappointed with that whole area (besides the visuals).
Yes i beat shrine of amana and the stupid frog demon boss! Right after that i beat the undead crypt and velstad! i got the king ring now. Soon after that i encountered a creepy old dude that wanted me to murder someone i said yes because it kinda fits my character but i'm having second thoughs and i'm wondering if i can fool him by buying the proof instead of getting it from my victim. Also there was this weird lever that was full of messages saying do not pull it, i have this weird suspicion on what would happen if i do pull *coughs* yurt 3.0 *coughs* but i'm still curious, i mean what's the worst that could happen right? right guys?
After exploring each area, I've noticed that all of them are pretty short in retrospect. The only decent length one is
FOTFG
. I don't know if it's just my mind playing tricks on me but areas such as Undead Burg, Demons Ruins, Anor Londo, etc all felt long in comparison. I felt especially disappointed with the
Dragon Shrine.
such a beautiful place only to be done with exploring it in like 10 minutes.

Looking back on a few bosses like LG I think Im not even going to finish this in NG+. Such terrible boss battles this time around Jesus.
Probably help people in coop and do pvp but I honestly hate the design of a lot of things. Which is a a shame because the mechanics are actually better then DS1.
I only have one should of a giant also, where do I get more? I don't know why so many people hate the Shrine of Amana, it was easy especially if you have a bow.
Yeah, I'm grateful for the length. There are some areas I don't care for in this game, like any Souls game, but unlike its predecessors I don't find the tedious stages in DSII to overstay their welcome. Just breathe a sigh of relief and move on, not "goddamn that took forever".

There are some real high points in this game's environments later on, so much so that the early game feels incredibly disjointed because of it. Once it really comes into its own though, the game really retains a lot of that "Souls" feeling. I just wish it were a more consistent experience from the get go.
It is funny that you say that since I thought that while the two areas your quoted post mentions looked really good, they really didn't feel anything souls like. Something about
being so high up and open and not buried in the world.
Beyond just the artistic design as well I really preferred the first few areas for that kind of feel, and even better they had the whole "folding back onto themselves" kind of design instead of pathways to the next part.

Felt the same way. Lost Bastille is good for exploration too, but then it sorta just cuts out. Sure the areas have the little off paths, but like I just mentioned, these are the only ones that feel as full as some of the previous games areas and connected. Ah yeah, Earthen Peak is a good one as well. Shaded woods was a pretty good non city/dungeon souls area, but even then
the forest itself seemed too separated from the rest of the zone.
Anyway think I'm done with this until DLC comes out or something. Have beat past NG+ with multiple people and the PVP is way too boring for me to keep at it

lol, I released the lever before I even spoke to this guy. Probably not a wise choice. We'll see what comes of it...
Well, in that small area you can't really do much except go to the boss and pick up a few items. You only get invaded if you are in the small area between the entrance from The Lost Bastille and the boss door.
They are very weak to fire I have found. Two great fireballs from my mage build gets them to a sliver of health each. The second two, you have an option to take care of them:
a lever just through the door that lowers the whole middle platform into the lava.
So I'm tearing through my second playthrough and I'm doing the game in an entirely different order than my first, with different weapons, I'm only summoning NPCs for bosses, and I'm dual wielding clubs as much as possible. I've left the sentinels for later and gone straight for the iron keep. I just fought the c
ovetous
d

at much lower level than in my first run and now think it's a great boss. It was a pushover before but this time I got killed 4 times and really had to learn its attack patterns and best of all:
it ate me, I manage to re-equip my club+6 and then a shield, and then it ate me again and in a panic I again get my club and then shield, and applying what I learned in my failed attempts, I dodge all his attacks that could one or two hit kill me and deliver the final three blows while my hands are shaking.
A "true dark souls" moment and a very satisfying victory
Just run like hell to the fourth floor and start killing the dwarves there; ignore the dwarves in the first three floors.
If you do this, chances are you won't get invaded until you are pulling the lever that rings the bell and opens the door to the boss, which means you won.

It would break Belfry covenant, as everyone would have the idea of joining the covenant to stop the invasions; since you can join just as you enter, nobody would need to be invaded more than once.

I dunno, worked fine as a Forest Hunter in DkS1. Hell, the damn enemies shouldn't be attacking us either. It only forces me to play that area offline like with the Rats.

In the two runs I've done of the game, I've been invaded more by Beldicks than in all these years in the forest area...I think I've never been invaded by the FHs period.
So I say Belfry actually works better.
It's gonna be a nightmare on PC, where the load times of the invaders will be dramatically lowered. Just making a run for the bell lever won't work anymore.
I love trolling players by bringing them into my world and then just hiding. So far I've done it to three different people and all three walked right by me. I could feel them all shitting their pants as suddenly a torch holder they just walked by turns into a guy throwing a pyromancy spell at them.
The last guy I just followed around as a torch holder for like five minutes before attacking him and he never noticed. It was hilarious.
I have lit 4 primordial bonfires. How do I get to the castle? The big door in the woods says I need sign of the king or something. Not sure where to go next.

It just means it's a place your ring will summon you. Also you can invade in those areas. It won't shine in Majula, boss areas, and some spots before boss areas.
I have a feeling this means that it is 'active,' which means that you meet the requirements, i.e. you are wearing the ring and are human. I'm not positive, but I noticed that mine was glowing during that time, and when I'm hollow or am not wearing the ring it doesn't glow.
EDIT: and as the poster above said, if you are in an area where you can be summoned.
Ahh why are there no white soap strones down at belfry Towery? Need help on boss. Also, why can't I lay my own down? Weird because I am still getting invaded so im conneced...

The gargoyles are piss easy 2v1, but, 6v1? Fucking shit no. It's just not happening. I can nearly 1 shot them with my power attack, but, I basically get ganged up on. No matter what I try I'm overrun.
ok gaf I need help, how the hell are you supposed to beat the dragon shrine boss? I get that he's supposed to one hit kill you, but his aerial aoe is a huuuuge pain in the ass
I keep summoning but they get roasted as fast as I do. I'm an hex build, so I have minimal vitality/stamina, and still I only do so few damage
any tips?
