As far as I know you can't summon while you are inside. I have heard that people will summon just outside the door and go in afterward and that works.

That might have helped, found someone outside. Just bear the gargoyals with some help from a cool mask wearing katsnsa wielding guy while I ran the sorcery route. That was a great boss to co op on, felt great splitting up and conquering all five bastards

Yeah, it was fun on coop. Chariot boss was also fun on coop.

ok gaf I need help, how the hell are you supposed to beat the dragon shrine boss? I get that he's supposed to one hit kill you, but his aerial aoe is a huuuuge pain in the ass

I keep summoning but they get roasted as fast as I do. I'm an hex build, so I have minimal vitality/stamina, and still I only do so few damage :(
any tips?

Stay still till he's in the air for his AoE, once he's in the air, run toward his tail. Don't summon people, as it raises the boss's health and the summons are likely to get one shotted pretty quickly anyway. Armor is pointless against him, so nekid for best dodging.

So uhh does the equip destroying urns actually destroy peoples equips? I threw them on people and they don't do any damage to their equips. I threw 5 and nothing happened.

Hahahaha. I've found my new favorite thing to do.

Step 1: Join Rat Covenant.
Step 2: Go to
Doors of Pharros
Step 3: Use Chameleon spell and wait.

I love trolling players by bringing them into my world and then just hiding. So far I've done it to three different people and all three walked right by me. I could feel them all shitting their pants as suddenly a torch holder they just walked by turns into a guy throwing a pyromancy spell at them.

The last guy I just followed around as a torch holder for like five minutes before attacking him and he never noticed. It was hilarious.
Hahaha that is evil, I'll have to try that tomorrow. Several people have used that strategy against me when I tried invading in the belfry tower. Killed me both times. Quite clever.

I'd imagine your area would blend in more due to being so open, esp for a new comer.

Does the red phantom in
dragon shrine have infinite endurance or something, because i blocked 6 consecutive hits from him until my guard was broken. Wth?haha

Why am i so fucking bad at this game?

Finally past a roadblock.

After I finished the Black Gulch I basically went through all the levels again trying to figure out what to do. That didn't help so I was racking my brain when I remembered that contraption room on the way to Heide's. I go check it out and YES! I can start progressing again. Huntsman's Copse here I come.

I've bumped into consecutive players who get summoned and then black crystal themselves out.

that's what I'm trying, but he veers toward me, so it's not working every time. but I do hit twice stronger when solo, so I think I'll keep trying without summons yeah. thanks !

Is it possible to duel a halberd and a great sword? Has anyone tried it yet?

And man, is
dragon shrine
giving me a hard time

that's what I'm trying, but he veers toward me, so it's not working every time. but I do hit twice stronger when solo, so I think I'll keep trying without summons yeah. thanks !

I beat him by pumping up my stamina to 132 (whatever stat affects it was at 32, and I had the third dragon ring) and using the Gym's greatshield upgraded to +10. That allows you to block his fire aoe.

What's it mean to be randomly summoned as a gray spirit?

I'm not human, no soap stone down, no belfry ring equipped... I'm down the start of the well fighting rats when suddenly I was summoned as a grey spirit and some dude was throwing lightening bolts at me till I died haha.

So random?

Does anyone else never summon? I did it once for the pursuer and I've never felt so deflated and unsatisfied. I felt like I had cheated and I didn't deserve to progress, like it should force me to fight him alone. It still kinda bugs me haha.

Loving the game so far though, just got to the boss in the Iron Keep. Literally every aspect seems improved from Dark Souls, combat, graphics, design... well everything! They should explain covenants and agility slightly better but hey, its still Dark Souls right?

Don't see the need to play offline at all, if you get invaded, just fight them. I've absolutely dominated any invaders, just run up and guard break and shoot them in the back with magic when they flee for their lives. Everyone plays a tank, while I play a battle mage keeping below 70% and can just run circles round their fat asses :D

Man... I was hung up on this fight for the last couple of days, but I finally just did it. Was out of estus and life gems, and he had about half life health. I get hit by his fire, takes me down to about 1/8th (or less life), and I somehow don't make a mistake the rest of the fight.

That was intense for the last half of the battle.

Part of a covenant that actually brings you into people's worlds for them to kill you. Enemies will be hostile towards you as well.

A covenant that I am in or the person who pulled me?
Can that happen anytime?

Also, random but in 25 hours.... Haven't been invades once. Outside of Belfry stuff. No random invades, no blue summons

Person who pulled you. It happens in two areas,
Grave of Saints and Doors of Pharros

And same here on the invades, really odd.

Just smashed my head against the
Ancient Dragon
for 3 hours straight. Don't feel any wiser than after my first 2 attempts. I am going into the fight completly naked and 2H ing my weapon. Sometimes I can outrun the
flying fire breathing attack
, sometimes I can't - there just doesn't seem to be a pattern that differentiates the two. Every other attack is laughably easy to evade.Tried a couple different strategies but no matter what I do, at some point the thing just takes off and I can't make it out in time :-/.

I think that's the problem. INT seems to not be able to open up until Soul Vortex or so (INT 37).

That said, if im in tight quarters with more than one boss...forget it. I fight till Im dead. Come back, summon, and move along.

Except Soul Vortex is a really bad spell. Useless in all situations. I've cast it into a mob filled room only to hit nothing. And it's almost completely useless against a single target.

I'm SL 125 and I'm still relying on Great Soul Arrow as my B&B spell. I save the homing soul mass and soul spear casts for bosses.

Ok followed your guys advice and started using Flame Weapon. It kicks ass! I feel like Lord Gwyn. So cool, and does a nice damage boost.

Also got the Dragonrider bow. Looks awesome and hits like a champ. Finally feel like I have a decent approach for ranged situations.

This is the most I've ever enjoyed a New Game Plus run on DS. Actually going to beat it a second time I think (beat the other 2 Souls games twice each but never beat New Game Plus).

Soul Vortex sucks. Sorcery gets amazing once you have great magic weapon, homing soulmass, soul spear, and some great soul arrows. I really don't think pure INT is a great build in this game. A hybrid like INT/DEX makes you much well rounded.

I do my first playthrough entirely solo so I can summon guilt-free for every subsequent playthrough.

I'm an hex build, so not enough strength to use a greatshield, and to respec my character would kinda defeat the point of the build.

since I get one shot by everything, at least I don't have to worry about healing, I just have to make a trip to majula to repair my life protection rings. wouldn't want to lose those sweet 750K souls I don't know what to do with. :D

I really think FROM went way overboard with this boss. it's not a technical fight, you don't have to time your rolls perfectly like with Artorias, Manus, flamelurker or both kings in DeS. it's not as good as Kalameet either, to compare it to a boss the same size.
it's basically "pray to not get hit by the op aoe while rushing to the safe zone, then whack/cast while he stands perfectly still. now do it again."

I'm not disappointed by the boss fights of DS2, but this one feels really weak. oh, and the music randomly stops during the fight, too.

That's the problem, I'm playing pure INT. My only melee weapon is the starting dagger for ripostes & backstabs. That gives me no choice but to supplement my casting needs with pyromancy. I've gotten all 4 great souls but I'm still relying on the same spells and equipment I had over 100 levels ago.

First playthrough I did no summons as well, though I helped a friend through and used him to spy on areas/bosses with no risk before taking them on myself.

I would seriously consider doing it for this fight. I've never spent more than like 20 minutes on a Souls boss untill I got to him. Yet I easily spent 3 or 4 hours on it trying to dodge the aoe consistently.

Soul Vortex in PVP is a good distraction for casting soul gayser. In PVE is pretty useless because the hit point of that spell is pretty strange and something hit many time, sometime hit less.

AAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I'm stuck in the (area)S
hrine
of
Fucking Bullshit
. I'm mainly a melee character, and I managed to get to the second bonfire in the area just fine. But I almost get to the third and I can't do anything to take out the Shrine Maidens just before the fog gate (and third bonfire). Is there a specific weapon or something I can go grab that'll deal with them from super-long distance?

well, there's a heavy crossbow+3 you can get for free from a chest in earthen peak.

So you really have to run the gauntlet of
Wyvernkeepers and sick-ass dragon ninjas
every time you want to challenge the
ancient dragon
? Considering the difficulty of the boss that sounds like a pain in the ass that I want nothing to do with. Why attack the poor fella? He's not hurting anyone. Does he drop something good or are you guys killing him for a trophy?

I spent as much time going nowhere, so I might as well yes. I think I'd rather fight five beds of chaos consecutively rather than this boss, this is seriously baffling.

they stop spawning after a certain amount of kills. there has not been a single enemy left in my shrine for a long time.
he drops
a soul of a giant, the fifth one that weakens Vendrick

welcome to the hell of many a melee build ! are you STR or DEX? because crossbows are kinda shitty, so you might as well use a good bow if you have a good dex. there is a ring in
the lizard pit of the forest of the giants that lets you aim even farther.

Just wrapped up my platinum after 85 hours of playtime. In a fitting coda, I immediately got murdered by an invader after it dinged.

A few tips for anyone else interested in doing the same (major full game spoilers below):

Get the NPC achievements (Lucatiel, Benahrt, etc.) in NG if at all possible. Keeping their summons alive gets infinitely harder in NG+.

Get every spell you can in NG as well. A few of these get much more harder to get in NG+. Chaos Storm took me about two hours to grab in NG+ thanks to red phantom adds and an already painful run.

Join the Bellbros early and try to grind out level 2 via PVP as early as possible. The alternative is grinding a random red phantom spawn, which takes a reeeeeally long time (took me about 4-5 hours to get 30 kills). PVPing at lower levels will get you more frequent summons, and your opponents aren't likely to be super experienced yet.

Ranking up in Sunbros is super easy, and you can easily put it off until NG+ to focus on Bellbro ranks. Summoning Sunbros for NG+ boss fights will help a ton, and earn you Sunlight Medals as you play through the game again. If you feel like helping others, I had a super easy time getting summoned even at SL200 and beyond.

Kill all of the optional bosses (Vendrick, Ancient Dragon, Darklurker) in NG. You'll need their souls in order to complete the spell collection trophies. These guys are all super hard, and only get harder in subsequent plays. Might as well knock them out early.

Currently 46 STR / 25 DEX. SL 140... I'm One to Two-hitting most everything at this point.

Can you suggest a specific bow that would do the job?

Sounds like a plan. What's the range on it, though? Because the Shrine Maidens that are giving me issues fire from pretty dang far away.

Get the
Dragonrider
bow if you're strength, Longbow if you're dex, upgrade it a few times, stock up on wood arrows and that's your best bet for getting through that bullshit. The hardest area in the game for me, as a fellow melee build,
Good thing the boss was easy as shit though.

Edit: It would seem you're strength, if you still have the requisite soul I've answered your question.

I'm currently here right now as a pure STR build, lol.

Area looks cool atleast. I think I'm on the third bonfire, if you're at the area I'm thinking of you can actually summon an NPC phantom that helped a lot as it took aggro from a lot of the spell casters.

I thought about that. Maybe I'll give that a try before I go teleporting around to gather additional equipment.

How many Bell Fry locations are there?

Also found out how to S

D

yesterday.

Take off armor
Remove shield
Dual hand your best weapon
>Get gud
Worked for me.

Got to
Drangleic castle
too but I see I'm not supposed to be there yet, I think this is the first time I've seen rain in a Souls Game.

So I was doing some reading and I just realised something (late-ish game optional boss spoilers):

I didn't have any Giant souls when I killed Vendrick and I thought the fight was super easy and I did decent damage to him... I read in this thread that he was basically unbeatable unless you had four souls or something?

So you have to beat him to beat
Vendrick
?

You don't have to. It just makes
Vendrick
easier,
if you have the other 4 giant souls it's a pretty doable boss fight.
In either case, if you're quick enough, you can run past all the enemies in
Dragon Shrine
to the fog wall and not get hit entering it.

How? I was doing 16 fucking damage a swing with my +10 Falchion with greater magic weapon buff on the guy with one soul. How the fuck did you do any damage with none?

I thought about that. Maybe I'll give that a try before I go teleporting around to gather additional equipment.

Yeah, it made a big difference. I just rushed at the spell casters in the back which pulls in some other enemies right before the fog, and they all focused on her instead. The water slows you down too much to handle all that shit, lol.

So you have to beat him to beat

no, there are four other giant souls in the game. for each soul you possess in your inventory his stats are divided by two. he's basically impossible to harm with no souls, but his base stat is only doubled with four. he'll still be sturdy as hell and hit like a truck, but it's fairly doable with a little patience. way easier than the dragon at least.

edit: damn, beaten!

I had a Greatsword +10 and 40 STR. I remember doing at least 200 damage per swing, which was very low for that sword but still substantial.

It's a common glitch.
First engagement sort of randomly for some people negates a key component. I was doing a ton of damage, just took a badly timed hit and died. Went back in and was doing like 10 damage per hit.

Ah, okay.
I just went straight in after beating Vestaldt and definitely hadn't collected any Giant souls yet. I actually had just assumed the game meant the larger souls you got from the four Old Ones, not ones from actual giants.
