Mate, do yourself a favour and get enough points in STR/DEX to use the Mace.
.
Nah, I've already finished the game once with a melee build, the whole point of a sorc build is the challenge of having no melee options. I'm sure a pure hex or pyro build is feasible too. Faith is the only one that probably isn't.

Edit: I had a multicaster glass cannon pvp build in ds1, damn I miss that.

Blue sentinel training matches not being level constrained makes it ridiculous sometimes. I saw someone in starting gear that barely hurt me with his weapon, and then he died in two or three hits from me. I got matched up with the guy one more time and he just jumped off a cliff.

im doing the same on my second playthrough. but now im sitting at 10 vgr, 10 end, 5 vit, 30 att, 40 int and minimum str, dex and fth and i dont know what to level up.

i guess ill go all the way to 64 int and minimum str/dex to two hand wield a fire or magic longsword.

PLATINUM ACHIEVED!!!

Few tips for those looking to do the same:
1.
you can buy the three covenant reward spells from chancellor wellager on NG++.
2.
if you are having trouble reaching 2nd rank in bell cov. (for a spell), farm the red phantom in belfry sol offline. You need 30 kills for rank 2. Plus, chance he may drop a berserker blade.
3.
If you can, do the lucatiel and benhart summon trophies in NG. It's harder to keep them alive in NG+ like I had to. Lost Sinner(no lights) was impossible. Luckily, you only need 3 of 4. It's definitely doable though. You'd just be better off in NG.

All in all, this one felt easier than the other souls' platinums. Just glad there was
no all weapons or rings
trophy

Is it NG++ for Wellager? I read NG+++ online.

Just got to the Gutter. I don't understand the complaints with this area, it is basically like
Blighttown/Valley of Defilement
in terms of aesthetics, but instead they actually played heavily on the darkness and lighting with this area. It also feels legitimately creepy. When I entered I was like...woah.
I really like the gutter. It's one of the easiest area too actually, if you take your time and don't run around in the dark in panic.
my first time was basically "wow, it's dark WHAT WAS THAT oh poison snipers again?WAIT HOW MANY ARE THEY ok I'm safe WHY AM I FALLING THROUGH THE FLOOR uuuugh"

Yeah, it was pretty creepy and atmospheric, but there really is nothing else quite like 5-2, not in any game.

Ha ha yep. The lighting in this area is really cool, the way you can see little spots in the distance and also reflections on your armor. I have a feeling that From intended the rest of the game to have this kind of lighting.

Err, do you guys have a hard time summoning people? I am in front of the Iron Keep big boss fog door. For 15 min now not a single summon sign. Twelve hours ago I stayed put for 20 min and no summon sign appeared either. :/

I can confirm it's NG++.

Thanks, that's good to know. I like that you can eventually buy those spells, isn't there one that requires like 500 pvp kills otherwise? Not gonna happen for me.

By the way, after watching the Ela run yesterday, I really want to get into hexes. Those things do a crazy amount of damage. Same with sunlight spear on Darklurker, holy crap.

You're not in the champion's covenant, are you? That one disables online co-op. Also, go into the options and make sure your online settings are set to free/open and not restricted.

Are you human or at a stupidly high level?

I'm human and level 83, is it much? (never farmed souls, only been summoned a few times to easy bosses)

I'm with
the sunbros.

But nice tip, I was in cross-region play: restricted. What an idiot.

I have 64 INT and 40 ATT. No points into END, VIT, AGR. But yeah same problem with too many levels with no where to go so I'm mostly doing FAI for the cast speed and hex options and VGR.

Having Pyromancy in one hand and sorcery in the other would be so cool if they didn't share the same attunement slot on the d-pad
Yes, of all the changes they made to the combat, this is one they forgot/didn't/couldn't impliment. Now you even have hexes where they specifically made INT/FTH builds viable, so it's much more likely people will have more than one spell type attuned.

I don't know how it would be done, maybe pressing triangle or something, since two-handing catalysts etc does nothing, it could go into a special mode like duel wielding when you have two casting items equipped. It's bad enough juggling spells of one type, but having two, three or four types on one hotbar option - yeah it's messy.

How does one get to the fog gate at Doors of Pharros? Use thirty thousand lockstones or something?
I still haven't unlocked all those doors there because it would wipe me out of lockstones, I don't remember using one to get to the boss though(?) the door is a little off to the side on the first floor easy to walk past.

Now I've done the area, I keep meaning to look up a video or guide showing what each of them do so I don't have to waste lockstones - I realise you can get them as rewards for one of the covenants, which I will do next character when I play online, but offline they're not to be wasted.

edit - 1st floor(UK) = 2nd floor(US) :)

Oh God I just realized I didn't burn all my Sublime Bone Dusts yet so I go to Majula and burnt all 3 at one and the game only registered the first upgrade. The other two were burned but didn't give me any upgrade. Fuck me.

just got to the foggy
part of the shaded woods and lol this is so mean. i love fromsoft. the moment when i realized the enemies weren't the normal white phantoms you see running around that are just other people i said "...son of a bitch" out loud

Fuck. I've wasted much. I'll look for the door then.

Second question: is that Santier's Spear a DEX weapon?

After a handful of easy areas and bosses I'm now having issues with the boss of Sinner Rise and the Black Gulch. Any advice?
Black Gulch is classic circle-strafe Souls boss, by the time it attacks you're out of the way. Get in a hit or two and keep going. iirc, it has an AoE with a build up, so look out for that. You can also summon
Lucatiel
I think.

I thought the design of this was lazy, it was like a reject design from DeS. Looked like a cross between a plague baby, leechmonger and the Adjudicator.

Sinner's Rise was all about stamina management for me (isn't it always!). Light the two torches either side outside the boss room to make locking on easier. And just be patient, patient never greedy - Souls boss strat (TM)

I don't know what build you are, but for Lost Sinner, you need to stay real close and circle around, like most of the other bosses. When you lose lock-on, just sprint towards him to get it again and you're set. The battle would have been problematic if the room was truly pitch black but with the skewed gamma, it's easy to keep sight.

And then NG+ comes along and we get wrecked lol :(

Traded in my PS3 copy today for dem cash. CEX giving £25 cash or £28 trade in. Seeing as i got the game for £29, console version cost me £4 total :)

Going to keep the PC preorder so i can go dex/hex build at a glorious 60hz.

Thinking about Soul vessling for NG+ and playing through as a sorcerer this time, but before I do what's the best catalyst for a sorcerer build? Don't really plan on using miracles so probably not going to invest much into faith.

Hey guys, to those with buff spells according to the guide both resins and buffs give 50 damage +30%. I want to know for those that do have access to both, is the guide wrong or?? i dunno it's seems kinda pointless to waste a slot for a buff if that's the case.

What in the fuck is up with the crack in the wall in Lost Bastille?
I've rolled the fucking barrel down like 4 times, it never explodes. I know it should, I literally just rolled it down in someone else's world and it destroyed the wall just fine.

There are all sorts of issues with Bone Dusts.
My buddy didn't have one drop from the mace sentinel, it's supposed to be a 100% drop.

It's annoying, for sure.
Sometimes it just rolls to a stop before it hits the wall - chuck a firebomb at it and it should do the trick.

No idea. Didn't explode for me so i had to roll it down and throw a fire bomb to get it to blow up.

Set it on fire with a firebomb, or a pyro, or a fire arrow or something.

Aaand of course it explodes by itself just fine after I posted. Thanks anyway!

The same thing seems to always apply to bosses too. Keep dying, post an annoyed message about it and blam, next time you're victorious. Every single time.

Finally got the
Ember
yesterday! It still feels weird to only find one of them in the entire game. I celebrated by buying an Uchigatana, taking it to +10, and infusing it with dark. Good stuff. I also bought a Murakumo and got that up to +8. That weapon is so much fun in Iron Keep, you can walk around two-handing it and just smack all the Alonne Knights as soon as you see them. Two hits to kill them and the first hit stuns, it felt great. Anyone else mess with it much?

Smelter Demon was a fun boss fight.

I started using Firestorm in some coop boss fights for the hell of it. This spell wrecks shit. So good.

Now go get chaos storm for ultra satisfaction.

Started NG+ last night. killed
Last giant
and
Pursuer
first time. Killed him when he first gets dropped in by that eagle. chaos storm and flame swathe ftw

You could've just whacked the barrel to get it to explode.

...and probably kill yourself at the same time, but at least the path would be open after that!

When you killed that latter boss,
did he appear again in that area with the ballista? Near the bird nest.

Any tips for surviving the A
ncient
D
ragon's
flying AoE attack? I have an upgraded Gyrm's Greatshield but it drains my stamina after 2 ticks and then autodeath after that. Can't seem to find a direction to run to avoid it entirely.

don't try to avoid it, just embrace the gentle caress of a fiery death.

I'm having a hard time in this fight too, already died 30 times or something. it seems that standing next to its back legs makes it easier to run toward its tail, the safe spot. standing behind its legs does not give you enough time, because the fucker turns toward you and the tail gets too far to reach in time.

next time I play I think I'll try to manipulate his behaviour by staying in front of him and evade his other moves. anything to avoid this fucking aoe

Staying in front seems to be the best bet as he usually does the fire breath or bite moves, but every once in a while he'll fly up in the air and I'll just start crying. Already have most of the enemies on the way extinct - the first time that's happened throughout the whole game. Is the fire even survivable if I try to boost fire res or is it always autodeath?

With The Lost Sinner it pays to offensively roll towards her during some of her animations. I've had some issues landing a hit on her after some basic circle strafing + blocking with how nimble she is, so not rolling sideways or backwards did the trick for me. Offensive rolling was also quite beneficial for me against the Smelter Demon, whenever you encounter it. The boss in Black Gulch is very slow and lumbering though: just wait for any of his attacks and clobber him a few times until he recovers. All there is to it. Do look out for his charging AoE attack once he reaches 25% health or so.

If you are just after its soul go back to where you killed
freja
its far more interesting then doing that collosally boring fight.
