Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

wow, so I have to clear out the dungeon EVERY time, just to be able to challenge
darklurker

oh, come on..as if it wasn't difficult enough..

I have a good strength build and I'm at soul level 85 or so. What would be a type of magic to start investing points in to complement this?

I started as full on strength and then when i was satisfied i started adding miracles and pumping faith and am really happy with the result

Imbue your strength weapon of choice with lightning and then go to town

Dex to 40, ATN to whatever number gets you 2 or 3 slots for spells depending on how many you think you will want, STR up if needed to equip your weapon of choice, I would raise VIG and END to 20, and then VIT to whatever gives your gear less than 70%, and the rest in INT/FAI

Thanks for the tips :) Just came up with the following as a plan - think it looks OK?

VGR - 20
END - 20
VIT - 18
ATT - 20
STR - 14
DEX - 40
ADP - 20
INT - 1
FAI - 50

How does that look? Figure I could swap the ADP out for more VGR if it doesn't seem very useful? I assume 50 FAI will be enough to use the highest miracle with a few spices and the faith ring? Also, I saw above that the Dragon Chime should be my eventual aim? What should I be looking to use in the meantime?

I guess I should feel glad it was on my messing around character of no real consequence. Didn't know about the whole sinner thing, so I guess I won't be striking any npcs.

Haven't reached that area yet. Just reached
Drangelic Castle
. Is that before or after?

after, you are close to it. That same area also has a shrine you can pray to become human again if you are out of human effigies too.

Do what the devs did to people playing Dark Souls well before release date. Invade with pimped out characters and hunt them down.

Then again, if they're notorious for disconnecting then I suppose it wouldn't help.

I am disappointed it didn't happen this time, specially with all the people getting the game super early.

Damn these bosses and their surprises. I was sure I'd get Smelter Demon the second time around, but it did an attack I never saw in my first fight.

Now I need fucking titanite shard, incredible. I've got merchants selling larger ones infinitely, but no regular small ones. Jesus Christ.

Beat the iron keep and a merchant in town will sell unlimited small ones

I'm literally losing my patience for G

fight

His AoE for the sword is fucking ridiculous, everyone says he doesnt hit you if your by his left foot but yet here I'm getting stunned and 2-shot killed by the sword being close to his left foot

It's a pretty telegraphed move. Stay locked on to his feet and roll under his legs when he swings. I had about 20 ADP for reference.

Pyromancy is a great choice because it's extremely powerful and requires only an initial investment in attunement (whereas other magic types will require both attunement and intelligence or faith. I'm a strength build pretty close to your SL, and it was a shock to me how much damage flame swathe does before even upgrading a pyro glove.

You can't cast two weapon buffs on the same weapon can you? I figure not... but I didn't think you could buff inbue'd weapons either but you can.

Do you have to raise anything other than ATT for pyromancy? I might mix it into my faith build since it seems I won't be getting enough Lightning Spears.

If you have any kind of ranged attacks, you can get on the side platform and attack him with almost impunity, not even having to worry about the fire blasts; you only have to worry about his long range sword cutting, which happens rarely.

Of course, this only happened because I could summon a NPC that you meet in another of the dreams.

Just upgrade the glove. I do believe pyromancy does get a small boost from int/fai this time around tho. However, I have no int or faith and can use it just fine if I want.

There is an NPC that requires 3 INT to open as a merchant, and another that requires 8. Just something to consider.

Stick with the Dark glove right? I dunno why anyone would use the regular glove.

Dark Glove scales with how Hollow you are. So if you are staying Human it is worse, though I guess you could keep both in your inventory depending on your status of life.

Because it's a LOT weaker than the regular if you are not hollowed. Look at the equipment screen, it will have a big red minus with a big number.

edit: beaten like a torch-wielding hollow in undead asylum

It's probably just my imagination but damn, Smelter Demon really fucking hates me. He almost never attacks the people I summon, just me all the time.

I've been wondering if there is some sort of "Hate" system in the game. Lol, they need a skills like Taunt to grab aggro if with other people.

Yeah, I already raised INT to 3 to buy off Straid. Guess I should raise it to 8 and buy off the other merchant as well before I respec to a faith build?

He doesn't seem that useful for a faith build since he only has sorceries. He does sell the clear bluestone ring which shortens casting time which you might want. There's the +1 version somewhere in
the foggy area of Shaded Woods
.. but of course I can't find it again with my caster.

I haven't really had any issues with any bosses thus far until
Smelter Demon.
That fucking piece of shit. It shouldn't be a tough fight but I can't seem to pull out the win. I eventually burned through a ton of effigies with two phantoms to help most of the time and still couldn't do it. I'm down to like one human effigy now because I'm a fucking dumbass. I am pretty sure I can skip this, but the ass kicking I'm getting just makes me want to beat the shit out
Smelter Demon
even more.

On a funnier note, I got invaded last night in the
Iron Keep, right at the entrance
by some Hex / Pyro user and it was a tough fight, but I held out and took him down. Then proceeded to summon that same invader to my game to help me try and take out
Smelter Demon.
We pointed at each other and then bowed, and then tried to kick some ass. It was just kind of funny.

There is a guy in H
untsman's copse, near first bonfire
, that only speaks with you if you have at least both 8 int and 8 faith.

The way the online is matching up people is pretty funny. I was cooping for 3 hours last night and met some of the same people over and over. One guy was summoning people for help but he kept dying to the boss. He was also being summoned in return which I think was his attempt to turn back human to summon people again. I think I saw him 4 times before another phantom and I kicked the bosses ass for him so he could finally move on.

Got invaded in the bell tower and the dude left me 99 Old Radiant Lifegems and 99 Petrified Somethings. I'm pretty sure I'd do the same as an invader if I had a somewhat modified save. That and dance with my Channeler Trident all day.

does anyone know why from changed the casting system back to the usual basic "R1 only" system?

It was a big shock not being able to use R2 or dual wielding for more strength/speed like it was shown before release.

They nerfed it. Dunno why tho.

Been co-oping all day for Sunlight Medals, and I swear I am gonna pass out due to the stupid things people do. God.

I found a lot of luck on the bosses in Drangleic Castle, since none of them are too difficult.

This game is too good. There are too many options and too many builds I want to try. Dammit. Not enough time in the day.

On another note, does anybody know if weapons/armor with special abilities upgrade with titanite? I.e. Does a Jester's Cap+10 have the same item discovery rate as a Jester's Cap?

I always get a bit ashamed if I die to something incredibly stupid and easily avoided when I have people summoned to help lol

If you're trying to get medals fast though, I suggest you just put your sign right before a boss battle. You only need to win the fight, and it seems you "rest" (durability restored, estuses restored etc) if you fulfill your duty.

fake edit: unless that's what you've been doing of course

What's a good build to take on
the Ancient Dragon
? I'm on level 137 and I've tried about a dozen times with little success. I've summoned about 20 different people to help me and none of them seemed to have a clue on the strategy either. I'm just going to use a soul vessel because clearly my currently build isn't getting it done.

Also, when I eventually go to start a NG+, is there any reason to not go around and kill/loot all the NPCs before I start it?

Sin carries over this time I believe, but that honestly doesn't translate into much.

you'll have a lot of sin to pay off if you don't want a lot of blue invaders, so be sure to see the pardoner before starting journey 2.

I'm sure this has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but the search function gave me a couple of hundred posts to read through.. so..

Does anyone know what the Giant at the Soldier's Rest bonfire is for?
It's the only one in The Forest of Fallen Giants I cant interact with.

I think he's got an item on him. Check him a little more carefully.
