Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

This only works if the caster doesn't have Soul Greatsword. Otherwise you could be dead. That spell is smazing against DEX builds or Spear users.

I just dodge under soul greatsword and laugh at them. It's still a matter of roll timing, though it caught me off guard the first few times I saw it.

Edit:

Wait, NG+ has no matching limits? Nice.

It still limits level. Just not soul memory.

Either of those area's should be fine to progress, just made it through there myself actually.
If you have a few poison moss clumps you'll be fine in Harvest Valley. Also, you can easily run through there without getting poisoned but if you do, just pop a Lifegem and/or an Estus and you're fine because it wears off fairly quickly.

Thanks

I've got this far using only the
Drangleic Sword
is there any better weapons i should be using (I'm playing as a Knight upping my strength/stam/dex stats etc and my faith and Int stats at low single digits)

Also i've not used any of the boss souls for anything are the Boss weapons any good?

Then I'll just run behind a pillar or door and spam it ;) FYI casters can also clip out of casting animations right before the spell goes off too. Keep an eye out for that.

Jesus Christ, the
Duke's Freja
on NG+ is a fucking nightmare.

I fucking feel ya man. Respecced to strength/int for that moonlight sword, but can't fucking beat him. One shots me with his freaking laserbeam every goddamn time. Thinking to just to go back to my melee build, only need a new soul vessel.

Also, where is this sun sword/sun staff everyone keeps raving about?

sun sword, is the reward for getting rank 2 in the sunbro covenant.

I did managed to beat it just now. This fight dual wielding caestus is a pain. The trick is: As soon you enter the boss room,
immediatly do a AoE attack (Firestorm, WotG) to kill the spiders, kill any remaining spiders and then focus on the boss. The best strategy i found was to keep switching the attacks between its heads, damage one and as soon its begin its attack animation, run to the other.
Rinse and repeat.

EDIT:
A new and more detailed map showing the game's paths and how the areas are connected

13
bosses down so far, two have absolutely destroyed me. FINALLY just beat
Mytha the Baneful Queen
after three hours. The other one that took me two and a half hours was
The Lost Sinner
. Big relief to finally beat them.

Weird how some bosses give some people problems, while being easy to others.
Mytha
was one of the easiest bosses I've encountered and like I earlier posted, I actually left my summon sign right before it to help other people. Got 10 medals, never lost.

You didn't
drain the poison
, did you?

No... Obviously that would have made it MUCH easier... Where to do that?

As the poster below me mentioned, I had no idea you could
drain the poison
. I'm playing offline completely too.

Oooh yeah haha, of course. I can imagine her being pretty hard that way.

Also if I may ask, why are you playing offline? Cause you can't play online? I played DS1 completely offline in fear of cheating invaders and now tthat I got DS2 and played it online right from the start, I realized how much more fun it is online.

I did the same with Demons and Dark, which I just beat for the first time this year. I guess I just don't want any help or anything the first time through. I plan to run through the games again later this year online though.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

My first playthrough was blind so I didn't do it, either. It's not an obvious thing at all. It was probably the toughest boss fight in the game for that reason. Spent several hours on it.

In NG+ I knew the solution, and combined with the NPC summon
Jester Thomas aka Flaming Whirlwind of Fiery Death
it became one of the easiest.

That NPC is brutal. He's like the Tarkus of this game, you don't even need to fight the boss.

Well, the wiki specifically states that the ring is not required. Unfortunately, as someone earlier pointed out, the wiki also states you lose a win for every lost duel.

This is true, I'm currently rank 2 blood covenant and should be rank 3 soon and that's definitely how it works

Well, now you a reason to play online

Haha, but it wouldn't have been as gratifying to beat! I am an avid explorer but there is just so much you can miss in these games even as you explore every nook and cranny. Like with Demons and Dark, it was fun going through and then looking at all the stuff I missed on my first playthrough.

Indeed, I consider myself a very thorough explorer, generally don't even need collectible guides in most games, but in this one I'm currently in NG++ and still finding new stuff. A couple of things I've only just discovered in this playthrough:

- The Castle Drangleic bonfire just before the double Dragonrider fight (down the ladder and in the secret room).
- The small ledge in the Undead Crypt's large chamber where you can drop down and light the statue that ends up lighting up the whole place (and a new treasure chest!).

Question about the consistency of the world:
Shouldn't you be able to see the Iron Keep from the Harvest Valley? All you can see is the Earthen Peak tower, yet with nothing but clouds above and beyond, yet you take an elevator from the top of the Earthen Peak up to Iron Keep.
It makes no sense to me unless I am missing something...

A couple of bell pvp wins to start the day, great! Soon I'll have all my armor +10 too and with the current levels and equipment I'm staying at under 50% load too.

Sun Sword +10, Poison Falchion +10 and random medium armor, all hopefully soon +10, this should carry me through the rest of the game.

Yeah, told myself the same thing. It's also weird that we can't see Huntsman's Copse from Majula. I guess From couldn't truly built an "open-world" and had to resort to masked loading areas.

Ahhh. Yeah that is disappointing. Hardly a huge deal or anything, but it does make the World less believable.

Is Soul Arrow any good? I'd have to put 7 points in int to use it and I don't even have the equipment you need to use sorcery (whatever it is), but it would be great to have some proper long-range attacks too. I have a bow but it does horrible damage.

Just upgrading your bow or getting a better bow will probably be better.

i'm looking forward to the 3d map of the world whenever the pc version comes out. It was class for DS1

Just doing my pre-invasion stretches at the Iron Keep...

How are some people able to upgrade their weapons that high? Im realy having trouble getting Titanite shred/Chunks

Shards are found all over the place, later on.

Large shards are infinite supply once you unlock the second blacksmith and as for chunks get and join the bellkeepers covenant.

While we are talking about titanite, is anyone else disappointed that they simplified the weapon upgrading so much? The different upgrade paths, different blacksmiths, embers and different items you'd need to farm really added some interesting complexity to DkS that's missing in the sequel.

Does it really matter, im at 20 and feel no difference at all from when it was at 10.

it does fasten your item usage / estus chunk speed and also supposedly gives up to 2 i-frames additionally to your roll. I don't know the break points tho. Also, don't look at adp, look at agility.

"Righty-Ho" is the best one.

Every gesture in this game sucks besides "mock"

I miss the "Well, what is it?" into "Well, what is it?" cancelling.

Is the shrug still in there somewhere? That and 'Well, what is it?' are god tier.

That and the animation for when you go to use something that you can't/don't have.

Definitely do not miss this at all. It added 'complexity' I guess, but it was in no way interesting.

Decapitate is the best one.

Haha it's okay, but too long I think.

'Mock' is like shrug so it's there. Well that is it isn't.

What are the upgrade paths for non unique weapons?? I thought I just hadn't found embers or special titanite yet!

Shame.

I also miss the fact that the wave gesture is now done without your weapon - always looked comical to wave around the dragons' tooth or something like it was made from polystyrene.

What i miss most is the fact that you have so little options available from the start.
You can do Heide's and Forest of Giants.
In Dark Souls you could do.
Undead Burg.
Undead Parish
Blighttown
Catacombs
New londo.
Drake Valley
Dark Root.
And maybe i missed some, but there's not a lot of weapons you can grab like the Zwei or Nito's sword, you know things like that. Makes starting a new character a lot less fun.

Separating burg and parish? Counting Valley of the Drakes as an actual area which you could do stuff in? Come on now.

I'm a big fan of welcome, warmup, the finger wag and the fonzie one.

The finger wag is okay. The self point is okay just because of how short it is. I think most take too long.
