Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Just checking in. This game is still awesome. First night all week since putting it down for some Diablo 3 time. I'm getting withdrawl at work now and will be back at it tonight. So glad I didn't wait for the PC version.

Same. I'll probably be done tonight if I don't get stuck. I'll be jumping into D3 RoS next.

I started NG+ today and so far I haven't been invaded and had to solo most of the initial 4 big bosses due to not finding any summons.

I'm SL160~ ... Am I underleveled? overleveled?

I feel the game is just as hard as DS1 and DeS for me. I was fearful that the game was going to be too easy coming in given the familiarity with the other two, but I've died an untold amount of times. Only a few bosses have been 1 or 2 tries bosses for me (playing str/dex build, starting as depraved) and most have killed me many times.

Right now trying to kill the A
ncient
D
ragon
. I mainly just want it for the last
Giant Soul
so that fighting K
ing
V
endrick
is easier.

Also, dying in the D
ark Chasm of Old
is such a pain in the ass. I'm burning through effigies like crazy either by falling down a pit or just getting rocked by phantoms that stun lock you like crazy or have super powered spells. I just finally beat the one at
Drangleic Castle
. Haven't tried the others yet, but not looking forward to burning through more. Thank god my Large Club +10 knocks most enemies down.

I keep getting invaded by blue sentinels a lot. I'm a real dirty sinner, though.

Half the people I saw during co op were wearing it.

Same with Dragelic armor. Everyone is wearing it and it's boring. I've stuck with Elite Knight set except for the helm and gauntlets. I just love the look on my female knight. I may switch up the helm. Wanna mess around with the look for coop.

Im 160, its prob too high of a level tbh i can usually see summon signs though. if i wait a round a min or so. but i have gotten invaded a fair few times. Even though i paid off my sins before ng+

Alonne armor for life.
Im building up to drakekeepers armour though. Beefy

Giant Club = OHKO on stone soldiers and the knights are backstab candy. I didn't have a problem there at all.Never had a weapon even close to breaking the whole game.

I only ever had one weapon break and that's my trusty Mastadon Halberd.
it doesn't last long. hits like a truck though. Might swap for a massive club instead.

I've been wearing full Vengarl armor and have several people wearing it when I get summoned to help with almost the same weapon and shield setup. Kinda sucks but I do like it. Vengarl is the man by the way.

Oh yeah, that spin attack eats away its durability super quick. I carry a fully upgraded Mastadon Greatsword and Greatsword as well so I swap between the 3 depending on the situation or PvP

They eat through my Bastard sword even at +8 at the time. Only got it to at risk status. Didn't actually break. I don't use Clubs. I assume you're a pure STR Tank build.

Quick question : is it possible to summon a friend directly ? Or is the system still like it was in the first game ?

Not directly. You can get a ring and set it to the same god to have a greater chance of summoning that person. Just agree to have the person put a summon sign in a specific location.

There are a lot of dirty sinners in NG+. I spent yesterday using around 70 cracked blue eye orbs to invade you heathens
even though I'm a sinner as well ahahaha
.

I cant get blue eyed orbs to work at all

Need to be human and in blue sentinels. I think it may work differently in NG+, as I had difficulty getting them to work in NG. When I have used them, it prioritizes finding a sinner in the area you're in, and if not goes to a completely different area. It might not do this in NG to prevent you from being spoiled on new areas.. completely unconfirmed though.

Got Invaded three times last night! Twice in Black Gulch, and once in Drangleic. A nice surprise considering I only got invaded once in my first playthrough, and even then I was trying to get invaded.

^^^ I can't wait to start getting invaded more often in NG+

Decided to re-join the Rat covenant. In the true nature of being a dirty rat, I found a nice ambush area for those that trespass in D
oor
of P
haros
. The only way up to the 2nd floor is via the 2nd room and the ladder. I use a hide spell and hide on the opposite ledge and wait for the dirty invader to come up the ladder. For the most part, they can't even see me until they are on the ladder. Once they are on the ladder, I target them and fire off a Sunlight Spear at them. I've killed all 5 of my trespassers. Though hasn't always been easy.

1 & 2: One shot kill.
3: I missed him at first, as I waited to long and he got up the ladder. But I got him instantly after that.
4: Guy must have had a high lightning def shield on his back, as did little damage to him while on ladder. Did massive damage when I was able to line him up though. Did almost kill me with his crossbow though. We had a duel between his arrows and my lightning bolts. Finally got him in the end. Though I did run into the spikes in the wall little later and died lol
5: This guy was nuts! Had some kind of crazy full out decked armor. Crazy head gear with massive horns too. My lightning barely did any damage to him. He almost killed me. Luckily he was weak to my Flame Swathe. Got him at the last second. If I was just a bit slower, I would have died first.

They should also increase the amount they get invaded. That'll learn 'em.
That's kind of going against what I was saying in the prior post though. If they're going to just ruin it for legitimate (hopefully anyway) players then better to be able to pass on them for invading, especially as they'll probably just be more inclined to keep pulling that cord without being able to co-op or anything. Nevermind that for all anyone knows (and depending on how severe this is) they may've been at a legit frustrating point or just had a bad day or whatever, as this IS very different from standard PvP.

Although, if they make it so you HAVE to defeat an invader in order to play with other people again or whatever it could work out, but they seem to want to go with a one time forgiveness item or something.

EDIT: I also think this would be easier to be down on the person had they kept some of the old conditions in place (no invading while hollow, cleared areas are safe) and didn't depend on an item you can't just buy an unlimited number of and even need to use up in a covenant or to go back to human at all... it's easier to be sympathetic to someone who, say, just wanted to deal with some covenant or black smith stuff, or maybe was trying to farm, only to get invaded because they didn't think to pull the cord in advance or anything.

Boses felt easier for me, but regular enemies were harder, if only just because of they're placement. That IMO made DS2 a little harder.

Hmm. I've felt it way easier all-around, bosses and normal enemies. I threw in Dark Souls last night for the hell of it, and was getting my ass handed to me in Duke's Archives by those little crystal bastards. Actually, that beginning area right after the bonfire and after taking the lift is a great example of enemy placement. You got the archer, the Mage zapping you a little beyond him, and the crystal soldiers just out of sight. Complete death trap for the careless. As for bosses, yeah, Knight Artorias and Ornstein & Smough were on another level, difficulty-wise, for me.

Because people fear their own shadow and want to dodge invasions like it'sare some sort of cancer.
It's not a big deal like some people tell you, really.

Lets face it, people hate soul memory because they can't twink the shit out of a character and then go invade other people's games risk-free. There's no other reason to dislike it. If you don't mind fair fights then you can invade all you want, you just can't give yourself overwhelming odds as easily any more.

I never played the previous Souls games online because of that horseshit, it was just too disheartening getting invaded by twinks. I play DS2 online all the time, and thanks to tons of practice in the Bell Keepers and Rat King covenants I routinely destroy invaders. They come in and see a guy dressed like a Gnome wielding a mace and they think "Easy prey" right up until the point I smash the shit out of them :). Feels good man.

Hmm so I found Pate again, and btw I killed te other guy. The mapmaker warned me about him so his neck was mine.

Anywho, in Earthen Peak Pate is next to a door that I need I go around to get, any idea how I do that?

I've been wearing the Grave Warden +6 armor set mostly. I think it's the best light weight armor you can find in game? I was around 45% and could still roll quite nice and silky smooth while wearing armor. Gives good extra bonuses too, although not too strong in the physical department compared to the heavier weight armor sets.

That is, until I found Vengarl armor (+0) and the
old sun
ring that
gives an explosion when taking a number of hits
. I'm near 67% weight now and rolling is shit, but it doesn't take three hits to kill me and I actually think it's fun to get hits now. I'm curious whether this will become a viable strategy but so far I'm all for trying.

Spent nearly 40 hours to make it to Drangelic Castle. Hardest boss for me was the
Lost Bastille three Sentinels.
Only one that I couldn't defeat without a summon.

All the others just were a few times of dying until I figured out what to do and then nailing it.

So, did anyone find an incentive to stop levelling so far? O.o My first character is nearing sl 200 near the end of my ng+ playthrough and I still have no problems getting into pvp or coop.

Are there any boss soul weapons worth it for a STR build? I used a branch on Straid but didn't see any well-scaling weapons.

Mostly the Giant stone axe and Velstadt's "chime hammer" if you have enough faith/int along with your strength. Kinda disappointed with the selection for str builds from boss weapons. In general there seem to be so many more quality weapons in the game than any pure scaling ones. :(

Wait.
Who was the actual traitor? I killed Pate thinking it was him, however the key that the other guy gives me as a reward led to a trap.

Female Elite Knight is God Tier. I've stuck with that set the whole game and it's now nearly fully upgraded.

The Alonne captain helm and armor is so awesome, close enough to Drangleic power with much easier upgrading, good fire resist, and looks absolutely badass. I balance its weight with using Alva gauntlets and legs, which look good enough together.

Really loving how my character looks now

I imagine the end of NG+ is one of the best times to really mess around with messing around with gear, not only would you have access to all the farming spots but
the ore merchant stocks unlimited Titanite Chunks at that point, and you'll have a much easier time getting tons of souls then.

So when do I get to modify weapons? I have a smith in Bastille with no ember, and I found the other smith in Shaded Woods but she moved. I want to add effects to my Great-sword dammit.

Last night, it was a bad night. So close to giving up on my sorcerer so many times, but it's a new day. And I don't feel like starting over until I get my hands on the PC version, shittty sorcerer, we're going to make this work.

Though my spells don't do shit to the lion men/minotaur guys in the shaded woods. Are they resistant to magic or I just need to boost Int somewhere +40 before going there? I'm skipping around a ton and probably shouldn't even be there.

Looks like the chime hammer is basically the new Grant? I may respec to a str/faith build for NG+ and try that bad boy out, the Grant was always one of my favorite weapons in the other games (mostly because of the amazing boss fight in DeS, that still gives me chills)

You need to find the dull ember in
Iron Keep
and give it to Mc Duff.

Its special attack is nowhere near as usefull as Grant's unfortunetly. It shoots like 5 Dark Orbs into the air that then slowly home in to targets. They're too slow to hit anything that moves most of the time though. I do like its moveset a lot though and the damage is decent.

Iron Keep
in the Ember.

Flame. Dear Flame.

No, i hate it because it fragment too much players of DKII. Now you can invade normally but what happen in 1 -3 months?

Plus we have already a deterrent in this game. Now armor have requisite so you cannot walk at level 1 with havel armor.

Edit: Plus you get the ember to modify weapon much later. It's not like the first one that you can make a run in the catacomb and have a flame weapon early.

Approach it from a higher level and drop down to the other side. I remember having to go through an area with the fire witches I believe.
