I'd be willing to bet that a Marvel Studios X-Men movie would play out extremely similarly to X3. A bunch of one-liners to make sure that things don't ever get too serious.

X3 isn't a situation with a divided opinion, its pretty much universally disliked/hated. Even the people in charge of the movies have avoided it until now.

It certainly is. I have high hopes that if he returns, he'll be an actual leader and not the neutered chump we got in X1 or X2.
The biggest inequity of the cinematic X-Men universe, among many.
I think they could get Mags to lead the team in the fight. And not just do the stupid Spiderman shit with two+ main baddies.

Rebecca was the superior Mystique, it makes her cameo in First Class sting even more. I don't hate JLaw though, I just dunno how she got the role.

I wanted to say that she was demutated in X3, but then I remember that so were Magneto and Rouge and yet they both appear in the movie. Well, at least Magneto is; Rouge we still don't know - the last trailer IIRC mentioned her.

If they're going back in time to stop something from happening which had already occurred in the X-Men 1 time line, it will wipe out all those movies or at least drastically change what happens in them. It doesn't matter who dies in the "future" parts of DOFP since it'll all become invalid as soon as the past X-Men stop whatever they need to stop.
This is actually awesome because it means Scott and Jean don't die and that awful Origins movie never happens.
