But worth investing in because it's... better? When you choose not to dual wield? I find shields quite handy, still. I find armor heavy, still, and when I choose a better armor my rolling is shit. So dual wielding... I'm still not sure.

They scale with dex (best one has S scaling), I like the two handed moveset they offer, and it does a truckload of damage. Kill other players in 2-3 regular hits.

are you sure? I thought you couldn't do that. If you've done it though...

Yes, I did it. I ascetic'd at the first gulch bonfire (i think it was first, but if that doesn't work, try second bonfire),
fell down, killed both giants, and got a second giant's soul. Actually I had accidentally used another on my playthrough, so I had to do this twice.

Use those soul vessels to fine tune your build!

lol, I've used several...I love them. My build is where I want it to be at this point (just respecced last night to wield mastodon greatsword) but there were probably better uses for my skeptic's spices. I have one more soul vessel for emergencies, and since I'm in the end game I think it might be the last one I get until NG+ so I'll try to hold on to unless I absolutely need it.

You don't need to kill the Ancient dragon for the last soul, though. You can simply bonfire ascetic either of the bonfires connected to obtaining the other giant souls. That means either the final bonfire in forest of the giants (right next to the final giant memory), or the first one in the gulch.

That doesn't work. Only able to pick it up again on NG+

right now; surprisingly, I was summoned 6 times there last night as a Blue Spirit to help fight invaders, and I'm not even NG+... lucky I guess?

I
died all 6 times XD

BTW, there's a great fan-made song I heard on Youtube:

Really fits the Dark Souls atmosphere :o

Killed
Dragonslayer
, was he supposed to be hard? I barely took any damage and I absolutely suck at this game. His attacks didn't hurt much.

My first co-op experience: I got one shot by the host firing off the big crossbolt at the Pursuer. Couldn't wish for a more fitting welcome to DS2 online play really :)

I also killed the Pursuer myself at the first meeting, cleric is pretty much easy mode compared to sorcerer. I did the Dragonrider first for access to miracles and it was just a cakewalk. Second time around I know, but I think Cleric is a good starting class for newer players, the mace hits hard and staggers easy.

no, you people are all trolling me. That's it. You're all trolling me, theres no rhyme or reaosn why you can find several witbhout depopulating the level, but, I can not. I've even sued an ascetic and still no drop.
I've gotten a blacksteel katana almost instantly in NG+ while never seeing one in NG even after almost entirely depopulating the Iron Keep. RNG is just crazy.

In case anyone is stuck on Ancient Dragon, after struggling with that fight for over 5 hours last night, I got a strategy that is almost foolproof.

1. Remove all your equipment, you want to be as light as possible. You're going to get one shotted anyway.

The basic idea here is to get him to turn around and face the opposite direction, at which point the fight is trivial.

2. As soon as you enter, run a little to the right and just far enough away from him that he won't do the face swipe. Don't atatck yet, just wait to see what he does. He will do one of two things:

a) Lift his head high into the air. When he does this run straight up to him, attack his leg two or three times, then run back in front of his face again.
b) Lift his wings and fly up. When he does this, run directly forward (i.e. under him) as fast as you can until he's finished breathing fire.

After he does b) for the first time, he will land his tail right about where you're standing. Hit his tail once (or none at all if you want to be safe), then move away. He will now either do tail slam, in which case just dodge it very easily, or fly into the air again. Flying into the air is what you want. When he does it, run backwards and don't stop. When he's done, the fight's basically over unless you do something stupid. From now, the entire fight proceeds as follows:

1) You stand in front of his face, he goes up on his hind legs, you run up and hit him two or three times in the leg and run back in front of his face.
2) He lifts his wings up, you run backwards, wait for fire to finish, run back in front of his face and wait for him to repeat the process.

He always alternates between these two moves, and will never do anything else. So it will always be standing fire breath (run up and attack) -> flying fire breath (run back and wait) -> standing fire breath -> flying fire breath, etc etc until the end of the fight. However, you have to make sure you stand in front of his face and wait for him to telegraph the next move, otherwise if you're in the wrong position he might choose a different move and mess up the cycle.

What is your secret!

I keep trying to use the ring but I literally have NEVER been summoned to help the invaded, and I’ve never successfully used a blue cracked orb (“Cannot find sinner’s world to invade” or some error message like that).

Are you human? Does it make any difference? My SL is much higher (99) so I feel like it’s likely most players around that level have ditched the blue covenant which is why I never get summoned to help. But even still I feel like the cracked orbs should work more than 0% of the time ffs.

I love how every time i go in the gutter i see a message with "this place again?" haha. tbh it's way better designed than the two previous similar areas. I wish the glutch was better because i like the alien like design but those poison statues and the flatness of the level kills it for me.. I literally speed run that place to get to the boss as fast as possible.

Just reached The Gutter and after having a good run through it I came to
that giant spider
and decided nope. Went in search of a bonfire and seen one through the gaps in the platform I was on but rolled to my death trying to find a way to access it. Now right back at the beginning.. I'm guessing this is II's blighttown.

I really want to be a Heide Knight, how do you get the armor? I heard they drop them in NG+ but is it like, you kill one and it has a random chance of dropping one piece?

Can you just use a Bonfire Aescetic to up the difficulty?

I kill 2 so far on ng + . I used the snake ring and one of those coins to boost my luck. I got the chest plates both times which pissed me off cause I was hoping for some boots the second time.

I just dodge under soul greatsword and laugh at them. It's still a matter of roll timing, though it caught me off guard the first few times I saw it.
.

Or, even better, just go into a fight with a Rebel Greatshield. For extra lulz, make it an an Enchanted Rebel Greatshield +10. 100% magic resist, 90% resist to all other elements. Takes no stamina to block spells lol... Moonlight Greatsword hits for 0 damage. And people are saying Magick is OP.

No matter what I did I couldn't escape that fire when he went into the air. I gave up after about 20 tries.

I summoned someone earlier that had the full set, they looked so badass.

I thought it was one thing per NG+, on my NG+ I killed three, they all dropped helmets, on NG++ I killed two, they both dropped gauntlets, but the third dropped leggings, so I guess it's random, I just need the chest piece now. I'll probably farm them with aesthetics since I don't plan on going to NG+++.

Just got the platinum, now it's time to respec and try out the brokeness that is WoG in PvP

Well, respecced my build from STR40/DEX36 to STR56/DEX20.
Im doing exactly the same damage with the Claymore (C/C scaling).
I got like 90 damage more with the Mastodont Greatsword (A/C scaling).

So yeah, seems like Quality build isnt worth it.

Any tips for belfry sol? I'm getting my ass slaughtered. The black phantons, the greatsword ones destroy me. I can't dodge because they hit me no matter what. Wherever I roll too the guys can instantly predict and hit me. I can't attack because I get hit, and by then I'm already being invaded.

That's the reason for a) standing a few inches in front of his face, so you have a good head start, and b) not wearing any equipment, so you run faster. If you wear equipment you won't make it. Since with this strategy he alternates every single time, you don't even have to be able to read his telegraphs, you just know in advance that this time he's going to fly, so as soon as he moves his body even slightly, you can just turn around and run. Trust me, I struggled with him for 5 hours straight, I probably fought him 100 times. So I know what you're going through. But this strategy definitely works. I went from dying within 5 seconds to beating him without ever being in danger.

Extincting every enemy on the way to him really helps a lot as well, but it takes a while.

Use a 100% Physical reduction shield, like the Drangleic Shield

Did the exact same thing upon reaching the
giant insect
. Quite literally froze for a second or two, then bailed the fuck out.

It's one of the consequences on the focus for Dex to scale with Bleed and Poison along with Physical damage, instead of just pure physical. So when you are looking to get Quality scaling with STR and DEX, it's not gonna happen with DEX scaling as much as you would like it to. 40/40 builds are still viable if you are mixing it up with Dex centric and Str weapons, but the typical Quality swords are essentially just getting most of their scaling from STR.

Yea running toward his tail is definitely the safer run to avoid his giant fire blast. Trying to outrun it running away from his head is much riskier, and it puts you way out of range to do any damage or set yourself for some sort of pattern cycling. Definitely agree with your strat. I am trying to do it in co op as well, and it is viable, but man co op just seems like the worst idea on this boss. So much RNG, way more health and absolutely guaranteed one shots unless you stack Flash Sweat or something.

I did it solo after about 3 tries, Gold Pine Resin on a +10 Great Club does solid damage.
I haven't once been able to beat it in co op though, host gets roasted or I either get tail smashed or roasted because his movement cycle went out of whack with all the different characters to aggro on.
