Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Any tips for belfry sol? I'm getting my ass slaughtered. The black phantons, the greatsword ones destroy me. I can't dodge because they hit me no matter what. Wherever I roll too the guys can instantly predict and hit me. I can't attack because I get hit, and by then I'm already being invaded.

What I did was I got all of them to follow me around the pillars and move in a circle, I would attack once or twice and run around again.

The first door on your right when entering the room
is the only one you need to progress.

Thanks bro.

Also, I thought the armor from the cover was going to be better/lighter than Dranglei's set + Vengarl's helmet... it's kinda disappointing that it sucks. I can't resolve myself to wear what looks good in Souls game, I want the best defense possible for the roll speed I choose.

Yea running toward his tail is definitely the safer run to avoid his giant fire blast. Trying to outrun it running away from his head is much riskier, and it puts you way out of range to do any damage or set yourself for some sort of pattern cycling. Definitely agree with your strat. I am trying to do it in co op as well, and it is viable, but man co op just seems like the worst idea on this boss. So much RNG, way more health and absolutely guaranteed one shots unless you stack Flash Sweat or something.

I did it solo after about 3 tries, Gold Pine Resin on a +10 Great Club does solid damage.
I haven't once been able to beat it in co op though, host gets roasted or I either get tail smashed or roasted because his movement cycle went out of whack with all the different characters to aggro on.

Well, just to be clear, 90% of my strat IS running away from his head and not towards his tail. You only run towards his tail the first time, to get him to turn around, and the reason you get him to turn around is because the arena is quite large, and if he's pointing toward the opposite edge of the circle you have a very long path to run. The key is a) having an extremely light equipment load so you run faster, b) knowing that he alternates, so you can get a slight headstart and when to start running, and c) standing a few inches in front of his face. If you start running from his foot, or from next to his head, you're going to die. BUt if you're already in front of his head waiting for him to telegraph his takeoff, then you'll make it easily.

I've been in the
Iron Keep
for the past 3 days. Awesome area but I'm about to rip my hair out. If I don't beat the
Smelter Demon
, is there another bonfire besides the one at the beginning of the level???? I hate going through that whole freaking level with those stupid archers.

I used this video as the basis for my strategy. If you do it the way I said it will be a little different, somehow this guy got him to do the landing flame breath many times in a row, but if you do it the way I was doing it he alternates every single time. But the video is helpful to show how to position yourself in front of him so that you'll have enough of a headstart when you need to start running.

So, is there any way to regain human effigies? The 50% reduction is killing me...

Equip the ring you got just before the Old Dragonslayer, that reduces the health penalty.

Well, yes, but an easier solution for you would probably be to find the Ring of Binding in Tower of Heide. It limits the HP reduction.

What they said. And if you want effigies, the dogs in Lost Bastille have a chance to drop them.

Also, reading the last couple pages, I see you had trouble getting Blacksteel Karana to drop? That took me a while to farm (close to 35 knights killed). Got 3 full armor sets from them before I got one Blacksteel. I wore a lot of item find gear (Jester Hat, Prisoner Tatters, Gold Serpent Ring +1). But it was totally worth it.

Yes, there are 2 more bonfires, one after the (optional) boss you mentioned and other in a square room with fire-spitting statues shortly before the big boss of the area.

OH GOD.
I maddened
some crypt warden NPC with my torch
, and his buddy bazinga''d me.... The priest want 100k souls to perdon my sins... worth it ?

The one after the optional boss isn't really a bonfire to iron keep, you can enter it from iron keep but not exit....

Or do you mean the one "right" after that boss?

No other bonfire. Go farm a Gyrm Greatshield and own him.

If you get a Gyrm Greatshield the boss becomes fairly manageable, since it has 100% fire resist. If you upgrade it to +10 even moreso, because you can literally just sit there and tank him and never run out of stamina.

Wait is that the
Belfy Sol
bonfire? I opened that but I thought that bonfire didn't let me go to the boss of the area, but only to
Belfry Sol
?

I take back everything i said about the defender sword that weapon is fucking great since it scales so well with my faith, once upgraded the base dmg scales nicely.
Also fuck the ancient dragon and his bullshit one hit kill attack, it wouldn't bother me as much if it wasn't for the fact its seem kinda random where he actually will throw his fire i always run for his tail but it seems the fire always catches up with me not cool, oh and i'm not spoiling tagging the fact you fight a dragon in a dark souls game come on.

Oh yeah, what's everyone's imbuing experiences? I buffed up the Mastodon Greatsword after seeing some people were doing that but wasn't particularly impressed compared to the Curved Dragon Greatsword or Mastodon Halberd, but I threw a Dark imbue on it and the damage is much better now, not up to either of those weapons but should be a great choice when raw strength won't cut it.
There's gates to the other exits that are blocked off. They'll open with the bell rung and stay that way upon later visits (well, in Luna anyway. For Sol it's on the way so may as well.)

Just to note, with a +10 Gyrm Greatshield and enough stamina, you can block both hits from the fire breath. As long as you're far enough away such that the landing won't hit you, that's one way to avoid the fire.

Yes, that specific bonfire doesn't let you go back into Iron Keep. The bonfire before the Iron Keep boss is near the room with the flamethrowers in the center. There's a ladder right before exiting the room that leads to it. It's kinda hard to see if you're not careful.

I have a faith (55) dex build and have two main weapons. I went with a Lightning Murakamo +10, and a poison manslayer +5. I also imbued my dragon chime +5 with lightning (287 base dam. now) for additional damage.

got my copy for PS3 this Tuesday, am now in
No Man's Wharf

some thoughts on boss fights

1)
Old Giant - fairly easy, even if i died a few times, but once on fire, i got him
2)
The Pursuer - holy crap, this was something else, died, went back and used an effigy, then saw summon signs and summoned 2 guys, we triple-teamed him, 1 kept him busy, 1 used the balista and i managed to get in some hits
3)
Dragonrider - again, fairly easy, died the first time, second time he didn't even hit me anymore
4)
Old Dragonslayer - after 6-7 tries i got him, but i don't know how, when i defeated him, i was apparently so tense that my chest hurt :p
5)
those 3 sentinels in The Lost Bastille - while i don't have to do these yet, this seems to be the point where the game will be on a Crossroads for me, i mean, 3 guys

i wonder if other people here are playing it the same way as i do : i tend to suck certain worlds dry of souls => kill 1-4 guys => back to bonfire => rinse & repeat until they are gone => once enough souls, level up or buy titanite shards?

I've been using that on people too haha

There are tradeoffs

Like what? I didn't get a good feel for the moveset from that video.

Using a Lightning Mastodon Greatsword right now and loving it.

So I encountered a weird glitch. It seems sometime during the course of the game my character went from male to female. Has this happened to anyone else. Is there anyway to change the character during the game?

The coffin strikes again.

On the beach in Things Betwixt. Sleeping in it again might revert your gender? I don't have any experience with it myself.

Not a glitch, you got in a coffin in a beach in Things Betwitx, it changed the things betwitx your legs, get in the coffin again to revert.

still unable to connect to the game server. belfry gargoyles are pissing me right off.

played roughly 20 something hours and this game feels like a greatest hits album instead of breaking ground with new material. I hate to say it but this feels like a massive disappointment

I think I've got everything ready and am prepared to beat the game. Long time coming too.

Should have it done tonight or tomorrow, depending on how hard the last dude is. Don't think I'm going to go after the big two optional guys though.

Really? It seems fairly overpowered.

The reason it's so stupid is because the charging attack hits multiple and will straight up wreck your stamina, seems to do good damage as well.

It might not show it there since its all highlights but you will get punished if you miss one of your lunges especially the 2H ones. So many times I got ahead of my self and felt I was bout to get the win and rush the lunge just to find myself on the receiving end of a magic attack or greatsword beat down

Its a high risk high reward deal especially in terms of handling stamina

That's no glitch.

Edit:
Beaten.
Why does it seem harder and unresponsive to initiate the sprinting animation while in combat? Is it related to agility? Because I have 30 adaptability even -_-

It is unresponsive. Has nothing to do with agility in this case.
