so should I just upgrade the regular pyromancy hand or
wait for the dark hand? I'm kind of always a hollow and just have the ring of binding equipped for my health, but maybe its a good idea to start just being human since I have so many effigies?

I think Dark Pyro glove scales only when you are hollow.
You get a nice bonus if you are hollow & at 50% health. If you stay human, you might as well use the regular glove though.

So online play, a couple of Q's:

1. I picked up a couple of item drops from enemies while as a phantom, did they drop for me or am I stealing from the host? (This is a nice new addition either way btw, lol)

2. The whole souls memory thing - Does this mean the more co-op I do, the more I'm screwing myself over for matching making? I just did a few co-op boss battles in Heides Tower, say you grinded through co-op there for a long time - does that mean eventually you would just run out of people who could summon you since your soul memory would be too high for low level hosts, even though you had a similar SL? Or is soul memory just for invasions?

The more I think about it, the more soul memory seems like a really poor way of handling things. Also loading times for being summoned are awful - is this the 'benefit' of servers because it felt like double the time that summoning took in DS1 and as for lag and online play, it doesn't seem any different to DS1 either. /blank stare.

I think the drops are just for you. They are always lifegems & not regular drops that those enemies would drop in your game.

Never had a problem summoning anyone & I played a ton of co-op.
Remember the small soap summon sign let's you play with a wider difference in levels between players.
Plus this restriction is entirely lifted in NG+.

As for lag, you must have been lucky, because the lag in Dark Souls 1 was the worst I ever experienced in a videogame.
I'm talking about in some cases, a 8 second delay in what is happening & what is being registered on my screen.

Just stay close.

I can't. She just jumps away, and then uses her magic to stunlock me to death, or gets her homing soul arrows out and GG. Maybe I'm just stupid, but, I can't hurt her. it doesn't help I have 50% HP, and no humanity.

Also, her tail move breaks my guard and I can't dodge it.

is there a way to get double the amount of a magic spell?

New game +
Also a you can find & buy the same spells multiple times in the game for a lot of stuff.

I was going to say summon help, but i guess that's not an option.

How do I beat
Najka
? Her magic attacks are fucking broken. They never miss and she constantly spams them, constantly. TOo far? Too close? magic spam. How am I supposed to hurt her when I can't even get near her without getting magic'd to death?

You can avoid the magic attacks by rolling, you can block them to lessen the damage, you can use the tree to block them, you can stay close to her so she uses them less, you can summon the npc helper or other players to help you. That boss is not a very difficult one, but she hits hard so be on your toes.

Both her magic attacks can be dodged by rolling to the side. Attack after she does her tail strikes. If you manage to get behind her she will do her tail smashes or tail swing attacks, both of which are easily dodged and will leave her wide open.

is there a way to get double the amount of a magic spell?

Buy or find another copy of the same spell then put that into a 2nd slot.

Did you see a sad looking big guy slumbering around in that room? That's him.

How did you miss the giant dude in that room with the ring?
lol dude just walked in like, hmm this moving set piece is pretty cool I wonder what part of the lore it is

I wish FROM would focus on more creative PvP/PvE hybrid covenants. It's such a shame that the Gravelords were completely fucking broken in DS1. The closest DS2 has is the Rat Covenant, which is way less ambitious.
Gravelords was a interesting idea but it just wasn't policed unfortunately. It was one of the empty covenants too
Oh yeah, I can completely agree on that front. Actually getting engaged in pvp(besides the boring duel arenas) is way too annoying now. I still don't get why they got rid of the intact orbs. Making these items consumables that are a chore to grind was a pretty bad move. They could at least have made them the top tier rewards for the covenants.
I know you can buy infinite orbs in ng+ but they're still very expensive and the fact that you hardly get any souls for a successful invasion doesn't really help that at all.
Yea, I mean I bitch and complain about PvP stuff in general (love and hate relation) but I just don't like the way they treat it like the bastard child this time around.

Whatever, I'll deal with it eventually

I just fought her in NG+, here are some tips.

I found that I could always dodge her 5 blue orbs magic just by walking to the side (right, specifically) when I was somewhat close to her.

In my experience, she rarely used magic at all, maybe once or twice per fight. I was staying close though, maybe you stay further away (are you a magic/bow character?).

When fighting, don't get greedy. Does she attack with her tail? Then there is enough time to go and punish her. Does she attack with her staff or claws (on the front), don't attack, she'll recover too fast and may attack before you finish your swing and get up your shield.

Also, don't worry about the tree with the item on it, you need her to take it down but it's just a Flame Butterfly.

I DID IT! I beat A

D
ragon
. It took a few tries and a LOT of Sunlight Spears. Like 15ish+

Basically what I did:
Basically what I did was greatly increase my fire resistance, and since I already had a decent fire resistance as a Sorcerer/Cleric anyways. So a Flame Quartz Ring +1, Dispelling Ring, and a mix of Black/Hex armor set and a 75% fire shield helped me a lot. That plus a bunch of Flame Sweats, fire resistance potions as well. Luckily I was still under 30% weight too.

So I can't get the Chaos flame or whatever its called in the back room of the iron keep. Bought the cat ring, put on the allone armor, the flame quarts +1 ring, rolled through the water jugs, as soon I touch the fire path (not the lava) I die instantly. Is there another powerful pyro spell thats easier to get?

I forgot about the small soapstone, I did see other phantoms leave at odd times, I guess that was their time up. So the point of small soapstone is for covenant rewards, because there's no pay off from killing the boss and getting souls? That's kind of neat actually. And I didn't know it had a wider SL difference, nice touch.

I still don't like this soul memory thing you have to play through to NG+ with every build to have it lifted - what on earth were they thinking? I think they've been listening to the wrong kind of feedback re:low level griefers. Level restrictions on gear would've been enough.

Loved it!

Every into so far has been different.

Demon's Souls: You're about to be screwed.

Dark Souls: Long ago, we got screwed.

Dark Souls II: Bearer of the curse, you are SCREWED.

Haha, perfect.
I really liked the inclusion of the "flashbacks" and the female figure's melting face.
That more personal touch is something the Souls games haven't explored much before, and I also found it quite powerful. The idea that your protagonist had a past, and it's slowly slipping out of reach as Hollowing sets in. In true Souls fashion, you don't need it thrown in your face (Argh! revenge for my wife/mother/hairdresser) and it becomes irrelevant when you're faced with the horrors of Drangleic, but I like that it's there, lingering in the background.

Tl;dr: cool intro, bro.

So summoning no longer turns you human? Early game without effigies you're basically fucked, right? I;m basically doomed to have 50% HP? Really?

Dark Souls II thumbs up

Why are you using the cat ring to get to that chest? You should get Flash Sweat if you haven't already, it'll help with the lava.

Actually that is a glitch & not intended.
Keep getting summoned & you'll eventually return back to your game human.
It might take awhile though.

So far From hasn't patched this out, but a good alternative if you have no effigies to use.

hahhaha a guy summoned me to his rat world and tried so hard to kill me, perched upstairs and firing poison arrows from the second I appeared. I got poisoned like three times between his arrows and the rats attacking me, but just kept chugging away at estus flasks. I then ran upstairs and he was hitting me with arrows the whole time I went up the ladder, but I survived, healed more, had a mini battle between arrows and my lightning bolts, neither worked. So I ran around the upstairs, dodged the enemies trying to attack me, stabbed him a few times while he blocked and then the dummy fell off the second floor.

I tried to jump attack him but he got too far away, and as he tried to strafe me shooting more arrows, I rolled into a claymore stab and did the R2 follow up for a nice clean kill.

So satisfying, I'm two for two in killing human opponents (one invasion and then that summon)

So dual wielders, what weapon combinations have you found work best?

I just got an Uchigatana, and while I think the basic moveset is an improvement over the DS1 version, I'm not sure I'm feeling the Power Stance moveset. The L1 is basically just the short sword L1 which is not bad (but its no curved sword power stance), but the L2 is the Dagger L2 for some odd reason, and it doesn't appear to have any range at all. Maybe there's something there, but I'm just not seeing it.

Dark Souls II thumbs up

Fantastic.

OMG feels good beating the boss in Sinner
's Rise

As a sorc I was going range, but I got so pissed and said fucked we're gonna go close and circle around. that was easy. Didn't even use a lifegem LOL

I beat
najka
, she was easy. She was really fucking hard in coop but without help she was a pushover. She hit hard, but, she couldn't take the heat. Didn't die once.

So, do Fading Souls actually have a purpose down the road or did From just add them to troll? I saved them up because they only add 50 souls and they seemed special, but I haven't come across another use.

I am having way too much trouble with the final boss when duel wielding greatswords. Also,
why couldn't they leave the king's doors permanently open after you've unlocked them? It just makes the trip back to the boss more tedious.

Finished the game. Also beat
King Vendrick
after an hour and half of retrying. Fucker killed me once when I only had 1-2 hits left to kill him. That was frustrating. He's not bad but when he jumps back towards the walls, it messes up the pattern.

yea, and why do we need to equip the ring to open those doors? just open up!

is beaten. With 5 Giant Souls, was kinda easy (then again I am high level lol). With super fast/long dodges, easy to stay away.

I used this soul and others to get some nice new things. Though I am a mage build currently, I want to start experimenting with the Warrior set in NG+. So I'll likely resync myself a little in NG+ to keep my Faith stats, but add in the Warrior stuff. Curious to see how this all plays. Should be fun.

I believe I only have one boss left, the final boss.

This is just stupid

I was trying to get the turtle knight set then I exhausted the enemies i think because they no longer spawn!!!! I get everything except the chest shell armor.....which is horrible since I was really determined to get that set.

Then I wanted to get the desert sorcerer set then i happened again this time I only could get the helmet and the pants, what the hell why did you add a rare drop for a enemy that would no longer respawn in your game.

You can replenish them with an ascetic.

i only had 4 Giant souls. he wasn't too bad, probably would've been quicker with all 5.

It's even worse with NPC Invaders. You get one chance per playthrough. If they don't drop, it's either Bonfire Ascetic or NG+ for another roll of the dice.

Yeah, I tried with 4 before. Wasn't to bad, was mostly low damage, like 70s or so, but certainly doable. Once I got the 5th Giant soul, it opened up a lot. Fight lasted like a minutes top.

You just gotta learn his patterns.
He's the boss that you learn it's best to roll into the attacks (across the swipes) to dodge them and then it's easy. You can also try strafe around him and just take 1 or 2 hits during the window's and keep strafing..

I actually had a harder time with that boss with
Lucatiel summoned because she would just die too fast...

I found him to be the easiest of the four personally. The fires in the room gave me more trouble than the boss itself because when I backed up or rolled I somehow kept running right into them. >.<

Just try rolling to the sides when he swings and try to get behind him. Blocking his attacks is usually a bad idea since they deal so much stamina damage.
Alternatively you can try to concentrate on attacking his arms to chop them off and make him a joke.

the final boss
so anyone else think the Curse spell was kinda lame during the fight? it's kinda cheap for any melee players.

the final boss

You can get rid of the little clouds I think but in my opinion it's better to just concentrate on the boss. The curse things are just a distraction to throw you off I guess.
Then again, by the time I reached the boss I did so much damage that I hardly had the time to get a good hold on its moves anyway, so maybe I'm completely wrong here. xD

Got two giant souls so far - one from
the giant in Black Gulch and one from the giant's memory in Forest of Fallen Giants
. Does the soul of the
Giant Lord
count as a giant soul? Silly if it doesn't.

So, I was summoned via Dragon Eye. Some guy had some colorful floating orbs, which leads like a trail all the way through the Iron Keep, up the large latter near the second bonfire, all the way to where the large room with the falling platforms were.

So, I followed it, looking all around as I walked all extra cautious, and low and behold as I walked through the doorway in that large room with the falling platforms, a random ass vase was tucked in the corner. I went immediately threw a Moonlight BLASTO! at him, and took him out. Lmfao.

It was like Wile E Coyote vs Road Runner. Does that work on people, or something?

This game has the worst lag, even in co-op it can be so bad it's unplayable.

Also want to add to the previous discussion about the gutter being uninspired. I think it's a really well done area but it has only one unique enemy (later reused), which is really unfortunate. Blight town had six or so unique enemies never reused in the entire game.

Makes me wonder how manageable the fight will be on NG+. Hopefully it goes well enough, although
I wonder where I should be using Bonfire Ascetics to stock up on his soul given he doesn't drop it?
